Just wanted to check in and say hi to everybody. Ive been gone for quite awhile. Moved across the country and started new job and you know how things go with that. So had to put my DIY videos and...
I started out with pads at first. They did the job but were a real pain to keep centered under my body if I shifted around at all during the night.
Eventually I upgraded to goose down UQs and have...
There might be some subtle differences. But for the most part the lay is about the same.
Sorry its been a bit since I have had a chance to visit this thread. In response to the catcuts that I put on my hammock ends;
I usually do them with a shallow curve. Usually only about 1.5" curve...
+1 to this. Straight stitches seem to be stronger from what I have heard....We had a member/vendor here actually run some tests in the past to confirm this. Bar tacks are ok but the long straight W...
Would recommend against an UQ for your first project. Maybe you 8th+ project.
Couldn't stand my HHED suspension. Had to swap it out with ring buckles.
Me and my friends go there every spring and fall. It's Alot of fun. Doubt I would ever do it in summer. Already crowded in colder temps. Can't imagine how crowded it gets in summer. Last Nov we had...
This might have been suggested already but just flip the tarp so it lays the correct way. If everything is seem sealed the the tarp will function just fine either way.
Beautiful hammock V_Allen. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks MuleTeam. Glad they helped. Its feedback like this that makes it worth while to make them. I plan to make a newer version of the bugnet video on my next hammock. I have simplified a few things...

Thanks mal310
Thanks Mad777. Borrowed the gear hammock idea from Otter.
Remstar it looks great. Pretty dang impressive for a first hammock. Now you need to make one for each season...lol
Please keep in mind that my method is designed for the user to lay with his/her left shoulder to the edge rather to middle. If you are trying to design a hammock that can be layer in either way, you...
I need to make a new video sometime with my newer methods. On my next hammock ill try and make a new video and provide better details.
Nice hammock theclark5.. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome vid. You should start cranking out more of these.
Thanks Smak9. I think I spent a few hours on it.
Thanks jwright. Yep same stuff. Finally finished off the rest if the roll. Still have a blank left that I will make later on. Got 5 blanks left on the marpat roll that I will eventually make also....
Yeah on one of my hammocks I made for a good friend year or so ago asked me to put large ends on the hammock.
Thanks Kool ranch
Thanks remstar. Look forward to your build.
Thanks Scott
Custom ordered them from a strap supplier. Forget the name. I'll message ya if I can remember it.
Bit expensive though.
Thanks Ridgehanger
Thankks GoayHanger. Doubt I would ever start a business. Market has plenty of great vendors already. I have made a few hammocks in the past for a couple members who contacted me. Might make one now...
Thanks SnrMoment
Thanks...lol
Thanks, the width is 60". I cut the ends of my hammocks alittle differently than most. I put a shallow semi-cat cut at each end. Usually about 1.5" depth to the curve at each end. This makes the...
My Mid-Spring/Mid-Fall Hammock
Length: 10'6"
Suspension: UCR with MSH
Tree Straps: Custom 3500lb BS 6' and 8' Straps
Guy-Outs: Just for fun(dont really use them)
Weight: Just short of 800g...
Easy way to get things close to square is simply to fold the fabric in half and measure from the folded edge and place a few marks along the raw edges and follow up with a straight edge and few pins....
I understand your concerns as I had similar concerns when I first started making hammocks. The method I came up with utilized the channel end hybrid. I didnt really like the idea of the whipping...
This may be useful if you decide to do a channel end. This version is sort of a hybrid of it. I like it because it locks the ridge line and the suspension together without having sharp bends in the...
Im 6'1" and after 15+ DIY hammocks I have settled on 10'6" hammock lengths with a 1.5" cat curve on each end to pull the sides up alittle. The 11' and 12' hammocks are just as comfortable maybe even...
I have had no luck in locating a #3 coil separating zipper long enough to wrap around the entire hammock in the past. I am pretty sure I ran into a few suppliers that can make custom zippers though....
I used to use whoopies but grew to dislike them. I now use UCR's. I find them easier to use. I always position my MSH based on length between trees. If the span is wide then ill bring the MSH further...
I had cbs with an UQ that had 16oz of 800fill down in it. Reason wasnt due to lack of insulation though. Just didn't have it pulled up tight enough to make solid contact with lower region.
If anybody is going on this trip just shoot me a message so we can try and coordinate our site locations.
You should start a thread where we all post pics of our boxes of down from Marty...lol
Here is mine. 32oz...Made this order twice but last order was 36oz.

I have started to do the same thing. I used to try and make my hammocks out of really lightweight material but I have noticed a few wear marks in some of the hammocks so I am going back to 1.9oz...
Would be awesome to see ya again Dave...Let us know if you can make it.
Yeah the 4 days is abit lengthy but we really wanted to be able to kick back and relax a day or two near the falls and...
I understand the desire to eliminate malicious reviews that others feel is unwarranted but once we head down this path then we are now basically telling people that they cant complain about their bad...
The review section we have already have works just fine.
Me and my hiking buddy, Dayglow, are doing this hike in November and were wondering if there was any others who are interested in joining us on the hike. We havent formulated a specific plan on what...
Yeah I always liked how the sock could hold stuff also.
Well I wouldnt worry about stealing the peekaboo design. It was already being used long before Hammeck starting selling it. lol...It worked pretty good. Fun project too..

So over the past few years I have been trying various accessories for my hammock for cold weather camping. I have used hammock socks on a number of trips and they worked pretty good but the...
Duct Tape fixes everything.
Sorry about your mishap. Had a few myself. Know how it feels to see alot of hard work get ruined. As far as the hammock body, once its compromised, I wouldnt...

Well I can't go now. Long story short, my plant lost a few too many Machine Mechanics so the few that remain on my shift, including myself, have to take up the slack. Stuck working this Sat. ...
I generally like to make alot of my gear but I think I might get you to make me some custom items sometime to support the cause. Plus, it would be pretty cool to rock some BoneFire gear. Get some...
That's awesome FireInMyBones. The hammock looks great and I can't wait to see your future innovations and new products.
