The little shop of hammocks has an alpha direct quilt with shell. I didn’t get it because it’s too long for me (85 in) and has a zippered foot box which seems unnecessary to me in a summer quilt. ...
+1 on the silk PJs - treated with permethrin to slow down the mosquitoes when I have to venture out from the bug net
I really like the idea of an integrated underquilt too. TheClark5 has made a few - here's a link to his post with instructions - ...
Thanks for very helpful review!
No - shipping included. Was poorly worded. I'll edit. Thanks.
So funny. That's gonna catch on.
Or cut a hole in the middle, put your head through, and wear it like a poncho!
Brand new - never used - HG Incubator 40

Sounds like an elegant solution - simple and strong. Do you have any pics?
Is it your kidneys (usually you can't feel your kidneys - only feel stones when they start to move away from kidneys)? Maybe it's your lumbar spine - which could mean you're not having enough...
Thanks for the link - that Tree Guy is hilarious.
My favorite foam ones are "hearo-s" which work much better than cheap foam ones. Flange type work ok during the day, but they stick out a bit- so the side of your head can't be against pillow or...
Well said. Plus with hammocking you have the option of DIY - doubt I'd ever have the skill or equipment to DIY an ultralight tent.
Thanks for posting this - I didn't even know the podcast existed till now. Just downloaded and listened to the first episode. Really good. Makes me wonder what other stuff I don't know that I...
Even though it's unlikely somebody would walk off with your gear, probably worth it just for the peace of mind to pack everything up and stash it. You don't want to be worrying about your stuff when...
+1 on Fedex or USPS large priority envelope - can cut all but one side so it opens up flat. If it's just for your feet then that would probably be big enough.
Nemo Filo when I'm not too worried about weight. It's inflatable but has some foam on one side too so it's pretty comfortable. If I'm not worried about weight then just a stuff sack with some...
Thanks- really useful info. Shouldn't this be a sticky?
Thanks! It's not original though - I just can't remember where I saw it.
I have a 90" wide gathered end hammock from a DIY gear supply table-cloth blank. Even when I'm lying perpendicular to the axis of the hammock I'm not totally flat. Probably has something to do with...
Started out with a BA bag and CC foam pad. Works pretty well. Like other though - my shoulders got cold. Thought for a while about sewing some fabric tubes to put pad extenders on the sides. ...
Once when hiking in Shenandoah National Park I walked past a tree and heard a loud crack, then a black bear and the branch he was on landed about 5 ft. away from me. I think he just had gone too far...
looks like camping version of Shangri-La
Ham-muck. Rhymes with run amok.
A rolled up T-shirt with elastic bands around each end to hold it together works really well as a neck roll.
Maybe get some hanging plants and hang them from strategically placed eye bolts (or heart shaped bolts even better) when you're not using the hammock. Or those petyzl hangers look small enough you...
That sounds do-able. Thanks!
Nowadays I obsess about every ounce, but I remember my first hiking trip on the AT way back in the 80's I carried an entrenching tool (folding shovel that weighs about 3 lbs.). Don't know why I...
The fact that you're sleeping in a hammock greatly reduces the snake and spider threat. Biggest risk would be when you put your feet on the ground or in your boots when you get out of the hammock. ...
Was hiking in the Amazon - hammock was the only option because ground was wet and too many things crawling and slithering on the ground. Ended up being so comfortable I couldn't go back to tents...
Sitting hammock could double as gear shelf if you hang it under your sleeping hammock, which could be handy.
I hike with a little velcro strap to make my gathered end hammock into a chair - hang...
Peanut M&Ms make everything better
If insulated booties aren't doing it for you, might consider capsaicin (aka chili powder) lotion to rub on your feet (takes a while to get used to, have to start with small ammount and build up...
+1 on the kindle. Or listen to ipod. Or obsess about how to get my pack lighter for the next trip. Anything to avoid being alone with my thoughts.
Since you're sleeping well at home (even in a recliner) it's unlikely to be due to prostate or urinary tract issues.
A lot of times after something else wakes you up, you realize that you have to...
That makes sense. I just ordered some and I'm going to try some different lightweight ways to reinforce it.
I'm hoping to reinforce it because I want to make an underquilt using layers of apex...
Would a wooki fit a Double V? Or would that be a custom job?
The bottom insulation is what nixed getting the Vertex for me. Vertex/Double V look interesting but the insulation is heavy (24 oz....
It's Spanish for "lost white boy" which is a nickname I got hiking in Columbia. I am directionally challenged.
We're hobbit size so would still be under the weight limit. Still searching for that perfect couple's hammock....
The apex falling apart would really mess up my plan. Thought it was sturdier.
Thanks very much for your help!
Just ordered on-line. 2 throws cost 53.48 (including taxes and a $2 charge because I'm not a member).
Thanks! It's terrific. What a great design.
Do you think you could add or remove layers of apex with that same design if the bottom fabric had enough room?
+1 on the Fronkey. Since you haven't accumulated a lot of hammocks yet (which is almost inevitable if you stay with hammocking it seems) it's nice to have a completely removable bug net so you can...
A way to attach a leash to the hammock would be beneficial. My husky would just run right through the mesh soon as he smelled something interesting.
I use zing-it as tarp ridgeline when I need to dry my clothes under the tarp. Otherwise I don't use any ridgeline at all.
Would the grosgrain be doubled over the edge of the fabric? Seems like that would be nice way to add strength to the tarp.
Did it take a lot to sew the two layers of apex together? I'm thinking about making an UQ with removable layers of apex, just connecting them with dots of velcro. Do they slide around very much?
Thanks so much for sharing that. What a terrific idea. Big leap from previous technology.

Less damaging than pins and binder clips are little plastic "Wonder Clips". They work really well with ultralight and slippery fabrics.
