Ok, not really ground. Going to use my burrow on a bed in a yurt in Algonquin Park. But, still has to count for something since I chose it over a sleeping bag!
I recall you mentioning that, but it got lost in a flury of text messages. Good to see you on the forum though! We can't let those ground dwellers we camp with laugh at us again ;)
Wow, tons of ideas here. Thanks everyone! I'm kind of liking the idea of tying to the stake, never even considered that.
It's great that, unlike me, there are people that think outside the box ;)
Hi folks
Seems like every time I set up my tarp, there's a breeze blowing. And with that, tangled guylines as the edges flap together.
This got me to think that I'm going to come up with some way...
Good advice everyone! Think I'll hang onto it and be happy :)
When I ordered my Blackbird, I got an Edge tarp to go with it. Great tarp; tiny, light, great coverage.
Then I got a Superfly. Loooove that tarp! So versatile, great coverage, just love it.
So...
I went with the 0 degree burrow and I'm glad I did. It's very easy to vent when it's warm (I went with the snap foot) but you'll be glad to have it when it's cold.
When I was a backpacker in the 80's, it was significantly more expensive than hammock camping is today. Back then, everything was about durability so here's what I had:
NF Snow Leopard backpack

I know from out tent trailer you can take a small patch of material that folds over the hem to cover both sides of the hole, and then stitch the patch on. Works for heavy canvas, so might be an idea...
Well, for me it's the usual reasons (no bugs, no sweating). With the tent trailer we picked up this year I was back into summer camping. I'll tell you, being out in a humidex of 112F is no fun at...
The problem I had was there were only 2 trees suitable and they were fairly far apart. I had to reach up as far as I could with the tree straps just to keep my Yeti off the ground.
You know Bubba I think you nailed it. Tree selection in Frontenac wasn't great and I don't think I paid attention to the height of my foot section. I guess I'll use a bulldog clip on myself ;)
Hi folks
Every night, I keep pulling my yeti UQ back down to my shoulders. Is there some trick or a quick and easy way to lock it in one place? I was thinking something as simple as a bulldog...
Yep! Wasn't going to bring the saw or axe but grabbed them last minute. On the first night, we found a cedar that someone had cut down at another campsite. We carried it over to ours, sawed some up...
We did the Tetsmine loop, coming back around on the Little Clear Lake loop and back along Big Salmon Lake.
My friend and I headed out to Frontenac Provincial Park for a bit of backpacking Friday October 25th returning Sunday October 27th.
This was my first time to the park, and I seriously overestimated...
I've been looking for trash compactor bags but they don't seem to be all that popular up here in Canada, at least in Toronto.
I think I stole it from George Carlin so have fun ;)
When I first ordered my Blackbird, I got an Edge tarp with it. I now have a Superfly to go with my Edge and to be honest, it's the Superfly that I take camping.
It's easy enough to tie the doors...
Found it! It was inside another stuff sac, inside a compression sac inside a dry bag ;)
Of course it will be in the last place I look! I'm not going to keep looking after I find it ;)
I got my 0deg Burrow last year (love it btw) and always used a drybag to pack it and my winter Yeti.
I'm going to try going lighter this time, but I'm feeling kind of stupid. Would my Burrow have...
Looks like it was an awesome trip! I've always liked that trail. We're heading out to Frontenac next weekend and I hope the weather is as good as you had.
I forgot to get a pic when I put it on the trailer, so here goes:

I've got the Yeti to go along with my WBBB. I haven't got it completely dialed in yet as I find myself fiddling with it through the night. It's definitely a great UQ though. I just need to get more...
I've got a Thermarest'ish self inflating pillow in the mail from MEC that I'm going to try out. Normally I just use a stuff sac with a sweater in so hopefully this is an upgrade. If not, not a lot of...
I posted a quick video showing how I had mine setup. I use a ridgeline with a hook on one end and use a stingerz on the other. I have to tell you, that mason line in the video picks up every single...
I can't help with the Americans, but up in Canada MEC sells them.
We had that same problem last year at our Ham Radio field day. Unfortunately, with 2 generators and 3 radios going, we couldn't just pack up. I learned that orange pylons placed on top of sprinkler...
Mine's on the back of our tent trailer.
I don't own much, but from what I have I'll say my stingerz is my favorite so far. Just an elegant solution to the way I like to string my tarp.
Well, just got back from 2 weeks of vacation and there's an email from work that my package showed up! I was just about to place a new order. Good days :)
Let's be realistic: who's going to steal 2 10' tree straps, 4 tarp door hooks and 2 utility hooks? Hammock hanging is awesome, but I don't think we're everywhere ;)
Probably lost and Dutch already...
Well, no signature was required so that's not an option. I tried that already ;) And our mailroom is very good and I know everyone working there. Most mail goes to a PO box which is then picked up...
My order got lost :( I tracked it all the way to Toronto, shipping it to work. Saw it get accepted, but never saw it. Sad, sad day.
Oh well, it shipped quick and wasn't that expensive so I'll...
Well, we've gone on 3 trips so far with our new trailer, and do you think I remembered the hammock or tarp for any of the trips? Of course not!
I'll have to make sure to bring the tarp going...
Hi folks
Does anyone use their hammock tarp for camping without the hammock, or is that a sacred pairing?
I'm tempted to use it with my trailer but 1/2 of me doesn't want to risk it, and 1/4 of...
Thanks! I have no idea how guylines tangle so fast and tie knots faster than I can. Oh well, took them off now!
This is my first video posting, so if it doesn't work don't shoot me ;)
We went to The Massasauga Provincial Park last weekend for some canoeing and general relaxation. Some things I learned:...
Just received mine a few days ago. can't wait to get it dialed in and working :)
Superfly arrived today. Man, that's a lot of material compared to my Edge! Can't wait to get out with it.
Hey Sturgeon, if the offer still stands in May I might take you up on the offer! If there's something I have that you'd like to try out in return let me know.
Just placed my order for the Superfly. I agree, it's better to have 2 tarps that cover a larger range of possibilities. And you can never have too many tarps!!
Thanks for the offer, but I am really attached to the Edge. That's why I'm asking about the doors!
BTW, I think this makes 50 posts so now I can sell it (which I won't) ;)
Hi folks
I currently have an Edge tarp to go with my blackbird. I'm looking for a bit more protection, and I'm torn between getting doors for the Edge, or getting a Superfly.
I know the Superfly...
If I stuff well, I can get my 0F burrow and my 0F Yeti in a 10L Outdoor Research bag. So that's probably the lower limit of size you might want to look at. And that's a lot warmer than the 0C cycling...
Welcome from Toronto! All of our camping trips mean a trip to the teepee just before we cross the river at the snowmobile bridge ;) It's a right of passage I guess!
Well, as quickly as I wanted to go, I now can't :( Apparently I'm going to Bon Jovi that weekend. Oh well, at least I can guarantee I won't get frostbite!
So far, the list includes:
Longer tree huggers
A Superfly or a cuben tarp
a better quality backpack
And that's about it! If I really listed everything I want, I'd just post a link to REI and...
