I got the email and ordered one in about 30 seconds flat. It arrived a few days ago here in the UK.
I've had mine down to -19c and was warm in a base layer and north face blue kazoo. I'm a cold sleeper but had no problems
I was contacted by Jenny a couple of weeks ago with an incredibly generous offer to take back my current quilt and replace it with the newer style ones with the wider shoulder end. We chatted via...
Ok cheers guys. Just to update, I've tried tightening it all up, and last night was the final straw, there is just not enough room for my shoulders, and I find that it makes the hammock feel really...
The ends have been pretty tight actually, maybe that's the problem
I haven't managed to get out but the mother in law is coming next week so a 5 day trip is on the cards
Many tha Shug, informative and helpful as always. I'll have a try with that this weekend
Some time ago when I first took delivery of my incubator I asked a question about best way to suspend it under the hammock.
I've tried the standard shock cord and also triangle thingies from...
Guys, I made a hex tarp from British DPM PU coated decent weight nylon last year. I'd be happy to sell it if anyone's interested. I guess $60 (shipped) would be about right.
One thing to note -...
I have an NX250 and a WBB and sleep on my side in both. I just tuck my knees up a little or use the recovery position. I'm 6'5 about 230-40 lbs. I don't find it a problem at all as long as the...
ok here we go. Round up the dimensions to whole figures. It's in CM despite the fact the diagram says M.

Another Englishman. Excellent.
This comes up quite a bit so I thought I'd see if I can help anyone.
So, an unbiased review / comparison of the two. I own both, have spent more nights in the Clark but have now spent enough...
That looks excellent Red. If it's ok with you I might have a go at making one or two using a similar design?
The thing is, her look is the kind that could get her modelling work for outdoor gear firms (and I say that as a professional photographer)
For tarp pull outs I use 1.5mm dyneema with a knot bone/shock cord tensioner and a marlin spike hitch on the bottom or if the weather is wet when I set up and I'm staying for more than one night I...
Thanks guys - that information is incredibly useful. I had no idea that so many areas had restrictions and the pdf has lots of useful things in it. I also note that it suggests that you don't hike...
I'd like to come over in early September time with the specific intention of hiking and canoeing in Yellowstone. Does anyone have any hanging experience in the backcountry areas of the park? If so...
You can now get the "animated knots by grog" app at itunes
as a clark owner I can say that it jut works. but it works because you put you gear in the pockets, not because theyre full of some kind of "wonder air"
Thanks - - I can't see an option just for down and I don't speak German
That is a real work of art Trinni. Did you get the down from extremtextil too? If so do you know what the quality is? 700, 800 etc?
In the pursuit of making more of my own gear, I want to make a TQ for two people to use in a roof tent. I need to join the material due to the width and I'm wondering what type of seam to use. A...
20-30 is not that cold though. I'm a cold sleeper and have taken my Nx-250 down to -2 (f) with just thermals, sleeping bag and z-liner. merino beanie as well - didn't have any problems at all. A few...
I would say that you'll be absolutely fine with that. Too hot even.
I'd like a number 1 please but am based in the UK. If you're happy to, USPS is fine and let me know what the extra mail cost is and if you drop me a PM I'll pay via paypal (I guess that's what...
The other thing worth noting is that some firms (like Clark for example) offer a 30 day no quibble money back guarantee
the difference in your example is that the market for tents is vast. the market for hammocks is miniscule by comparison.
There would possibly be a rental market if the prices were in the thousands of dollars, but they arent, so more people are likely to buy from the get go than rent. Ergo - no business opportunity.
Cheers all
Thanks guys. I'm hoping that a set of triangle thingies will also help. Does anyone have any experience of them with this specific setup?
Another idea - if dutch is happy to make the CAD file "open source", maybe we (the forum members) could make a suitable donation per file download to a charity of Dutchs choice? ie he sets up a...
I have an XL and love it. I put small shock cord loops on th plastic rings then slid a cordlock over the loop and pushed it toward the plastic ring. Then fold up your guyline, open the shock cord...
or maybe dutch might be happy to send them unfinished and we can do the finishing/filing and smoothing ourselves to save him time and money?
Just after views from anyone who has this combination. with the BB footbox, how does that affect the footbox area of the BB when you're in it? does the incubator stay in the right position and when...
"nylon wrapped skin" applies to any modern hammock. and "you will sweat" is nonsense I'm afraid. YOU may sweat, but "you WILL sweat" are two very different things. I don't sweat in mine at all, and...
I'd like some too, I guess around 10 would be the number for me. I could use them in a few different ways. Like Shewie, I'm in the UK too, so please don't spank us with the shipping :D
Hi John, I'm in Lancashire, any help you need, the guys here are fantastic
and I guess you mean nemesis ;)
Would someone with skins for the superfly mind posting up the length and width at widest and narrowest points? I'd love to make some
Yep will definitely try it next time.
I've never had problems with slipping prussics (actually I mean klemheists but I always say prussic).
What type of seam do you use for the ridge seam? I...
Ridgeline below tarp - gives you a better weatherproof structure, less stress on the end tie outs than over the top where all the stress is on the ties. when its under the stress is minimal and is...
I dont think its accurate to say sil is not waterproof. it depends on weight and the coating. To me 2500 HS is waterproof, and assuming my sil is that, i m happy.
really nice work
Cheers Pack. I'm just in the process of making my second tarp, this one has a number of cuts though and I agree that the time is in working out the cuts themselves and plotting then drawing the...
did you use a rolled seam foot for the cat cuts sewing? nice work by the way
Well, 75 will most likely be the safe working load, not the break point, and the break point could well be 150lb plus.
when you say the toggle, there is still stress on the tie out/fabric but you...
wirerat, yeah if you want to use it thats cool.
One point though, tyvek is absolutely, categorically NOT a vapour barrier and should not be used as such in construction. Its primary use in...
Willie, if your ridgeline is under your tarp then it doesnt matter what its made from. Water can still work its way along and drip on you unless you tie on some drip strings.
I actually prefer the...
You guys know that Tyvek isnt waterproof, right?
Can I ask the OP what the issue is? if guy lines for tarp then surely there is no problem? if ridgeline, then a small length of cord tied on the ridgeline just inside the tarp will act as a drip...
Do you know what its made from? Does it have an outer sheath and inner layers or something else?
When you say "wick" water, what exactly is the concern? I use 1.5mm sheathed dyneema for guylines....
