I just turn the stand slightly so the pole goes past the back leg.
I love this idea but would rather have something that can fit in a duffle bag or backpack. Might be an idea for the cyclists in the group as well. Saw the following clip using two poles per side,...
Sure but it won't be for a few days. I'll describe the setup now though.
The spreader pole hangs from the framing of the treehouse using a simple Larkshead around a 2x6 and holds the pole in the...
I have a treehouse that is 8' square with a tree growing up through the middle. I can hang even in this short space using the spreader pole suspended from the side structure.
The treehouse sits...
Stuff it into a pillow case, measure that volume and that should get you very close.
+1; I'm in your camp as well...
I'm in. Thanks.
Seems everyone is hangin' these days...
My understanding is that the prusik works with the friction exerted as it tries to "twist" the static line, and that the tension on the suspension line doesn't allow that to happen as well, leading...
Here's my suspension: I have a shackle attached to the hinge. Then a prusik loop or klemheist hangs from it and attaches to the ridge pole.
The hammock hangs from double rings larksheaded...
Or maybe set the tripods up on some sort of a stand?
Or you could look at some of the pipe stands that could be made to fit the exact footprint you have.
I hear ya. I'm pretty new to this hanging thing and am still moving the stand and ropes around to find the ideal setup, so I like the adjustability. And I like playing with the knots.
It's either two or three. Never had any slippage problems and never did anything special to the pipe. That prusik is one cool knot. I may try a Klemheist as that is supposed to hold even better...
Oh, well then, as Rosanne Rosanna Danna on Saturday Night Live used to say, "Never mind..."
I don't use either. I hang a looped piece of rope from the hinge using a shackle and prusik it to the pole. Then I use another rope that hangs directly behind the prusik knot that then attaches to...
38 feet wide??!?!?! Holy crap, that must be some industrial sized stand. I'll bet if you worked at it you could get it down to less than 10% of that figure.
Do you use a standard sized hammock on this stand? I thought it would be a smaller/shorter length.
That makes more sense. Thanks.
So, do I have this right? The "under" rope simply rides next to the ring, and the part that loops around the under rope and the ring has one end under tension and the other hanging loose?
Ah, makes sense. I'm not an amsteel user yet so don't know its properties.
Why not skip the ring altogether and just use a Prusik knot? Seems like it's essentially the same thing without the weight of the ring.
I think there should be a "sticky" section. There are too many stickies , especially in the DIY section that it limits the number of new threads on each page since the stickies appear on every page...
Yeah, but only takes 48 hours to set it up. How can you beat that? :D
Cocoon Tree Tent:

Looks like the starting dimension is 62"x82" which makes the final something like 62"x41"? And I assume the long dimension lines up with the ridge line?
Great, thanks.
I think I read that a good length to start experimenting with a ridge line is 83% of total hammock length measured between the suspension points, but can't find the post. Do I have that figure...
What are the finished dimensions of the PLUQ? I'm going to make mine from fleece and I think I got too much material so can cut it down and maybe make a TQ.
I have the same question. When I calculate the 83% figure and set up to that measurement, I get a hang angle closer to 45*. The 30* angle gets me something like 10-12" shorter than the calculation...
Logically speaking that just means you need more hammocks. You know to balance out the tilt in the universe:).
I've done absolutely nothing to it. It was my MIL's machine and it has been in a closet for a dozen years or more.
Ok, thanks for the suggestions.
I have an old singer machine and it seems to work fine for a while, but then gradually slows down, finally grinding to a halt. Giving it a rest seems to restore it for a bit.
Does this sound like...
You shouldn't have to make many. The website indicates the ENO Double Nest is 9'4" long. I have a 10'6" DIY hammock and hang it in my sunroom which is about 11' wide. My pipe is 10' long and each...
I just use rope for mine because I use it mainly indoors and have to be able to break the setup down after using it to store it away (I use an old ski bag which is just about the perfect size).
I...
Make sure the point where the hammock suspension connects to the pipe is as close as possible to directly under the point where the pipe connects to the stand. Mine is directly underneath and I have...
Good suggestions, all. Thanks. I guess I'll try the square bottom and see how it goes.
I recently made my first hammock from 1.9 ripstop nylon and want to make a cylindrical stuff sack for it from the trimmings. Any tips for how to sew the bottom circle to the sides?
Also, how does...
Got mine at EMS (eastern mtn sports)
Ok, this hanging stuff really is a sickness. I built a TD stand this weekend and I don't even have a hammock (yet).
Was waiting on a sale on tablecloths, but decided to go to fabric...
Perfect, thanks.
I see Rip Stop Nylon available in a variety of colors at Joann's Fabrics and it is listed as:
100% nylon, Fabric Weight 64 GSM, 59" wide
Is this the stuff I want for a hammock? It is different...
