Hi
Welcome.
Nigel
Indeed yes. Plenty of sneaky spots here.
Im in for this if we can get a venue sorted, or if only a few of us we can sneak off some where!
Nigel
Hi
Yes sounds good.
Nigel
Hi
Looks like a good homemade hammock. Next time you are down the forest give a shout out there seems to be a few of us this way and we be able to get together? Also some of us trying to organise...
Hi
Welcome. I hail from the New Forest and it's a great place to hang. There are a few of us from the UK in here.
Nigel
If there are only a few of use then a discrete overnight should be possible in the New Forest, South Downs or similar.
Nigel
If you can find a place in Wiltshire then yes that would be better. I could make Wiltshire easily even late evening Friday. If you have a place in mind maybe we could start looking at dates etc.

Is a few miles west of Hereford OK? Know of a woodland that will allow hammocks for £5 night. Either end of summer or mid end of September?
Nigel
Hi
Just tap the menu bar where the clock is and the page will jump to the top without the need to scroll.
Nigel
Morning Billy
Morning and welcome. Where in the UK are you? There may be other hammock users nearby who can show you their set ups.
Nigel
Hi
There is a few of us on here! Welcome. Hangout sounds good and we did have some discussion about it a while back but nothing was finalised.
Nigel
Great pics and thanks for sharing. Looks like the hammock guys kept out the mud quite well. Nigel
Hi Pertex is a good fabric for hammocks in the UK. Will keep that Yorkshire breeze out nicely. Have a search on eBay for 'PERTEX MICROLIGHT RIPSTOP FABRIC' a seller has some at a good price.
Nigel
Great stuff. May get some myself as well. Will they grip ok to silnylon?
Nigel
OK. Would be good to know if they are the same or similar clips.
Nigel
Yes I see what you mean. Not seen anything like that in the UK. You still going to rustle up an order? May be tempted to get some for larger tarps and that.
Nigel
Would these do?

Smooth pebble or cork and a clove hitch??
Do you want them to join tarps or add attachment points to a tarp?
Nigel
Very nice well done. Quite tempted to try and make one of these and seeing yours even more so. Was it hard to make??
Nigel
Yes a site/wood with permission for hammocks would be good. If only a few of us can always stealth!
Sounds like a good plan. We did a lot of testing a couple of winters ago before heading off to French mountains. A bit of karrimat is good tobtake just incase you get some chill underneath.
I...
Yes that could be worth a look. Savernake Forrest near Malrborough has a proper but no amenities campsite that may allow hammocks but is a Forrest Holidays site so may be funny about it.
You...
Hi Stephen
Looking for a more official site rather than stealth and maybe less 'bush crafty' than some of the BCUK ones?
CSB - yes I did get the message and could not reply for some reason?...
Very nice under quilt and some fine sewing.
Nigel
Hi
Seems to be a lot of UK hangers on here now and maybe we need a meet up some time next year?
Questions to ask are where would people be willing to travel to?
And can we find a site with...
The photo does look OK although I'm not sure if that picture is of the inside which I believe is the shiny side pr was taken under flash.
Nigel
I have sone of the teal at home and it certainly more blue than green. Tommorow I will take a photo of it against another colour if you want to see how 'teal' it is?
Nigel
What UK supplier did you speak to?
I have used pertex for a hammock sock and many of my hammocks are also made from pertex. It is good as a hammock sock and a nice material to work with being less slippery than some nylons.
While...
3 x Giraffe?
Hi
I am now living in Hampshire but my hanging buddy lives down the road from you in Kent. Not sure about using the campsite during the school holiday's though as this may be when he is available....
Thanks for that calculation. I weigh around 70KG and have so far come up with 3 different answers using your equation. This is entirely the fault of my rubbish maths!!
I am going to get...
I have been looking at these ground anchors to use with the Grizz two pole method:

Would there be some benfit from putting say a strip of insect mesh on top that could in certain conditions be turned towards the top to reduce condensation?
I also wonder how much this would reduce...
It's a treated fabric. I think it was a second quality treated nylon. I reakon the conditions I used it in were certainly a factor; quite cold and although windy the tarp blocked most of it, I will...
I had quite bad condensation issues with my sock a few weeks ago with my peapod; although to fair I had it cinched right up and it was still strung across the ridge line it very cold also so one...
I have some of those camcleats and use them with 2mm Spectra for pegging out the tarp. Personally I find the Niteize figure of 8 to efficient for the ridge line. I will however try out your idea as...
Cool thanks for the heads up! Ex demo peapod and with a devalued dollar a bargain for me in the UK! Let's just hope her Majesty's Customs are asleep when it arrives!
Nigel
Yes, elastic can help to gather the sides forming a better seal between hammock body and underblanket preventing warm air disappearing allowing a bit of give when rolling around etc.
Nigel
No not in testing and no chance to sleep in properly, I am off at the end of the week for 7/8 nights backpacking in Wales so will have a proper test there. Hopefully by hanging just loose enough...
Very hard to get hold of in the UK, the material for the underblanket and hammock came from Thruhiker, other wise I would agree to buying the down. I suspect this would be an easier option.
Nigel
The blanket weighs about 630 grams with elastic attachment cord so about 22 ounces in colonial weights
Seriously they are way to heavy for me to take hammocking!
Nigel
After making my hammock I had a piece of 1.1 oz breathable nylon material left that was 170 x 260cm folded over this gave a double layer 170 x 130 cm, just enough for a lightweight underblanket.
...
What diameter line do you use? I have 5mm dyneema but want to go a bit lighter as the 5mm seem a bit large!!
Hi Vic
I have a spool of 2mm Dyneema about 15-18 foot long. About 6 feet is all ready wound on the spool then a figure nine followed by a 'prussick knot' loop is attached. 12 feet or so down the...
Please, NO MORE this is making me feel nauseous.
Nigel
Cool I live in the UK!:D
