PM received - sold pending receipt of payment
Well folks, it's time to make some room in my gear closet.
Up for sale is a TeWa Breeze down underquilt that I purchased in 2012. It has one ounce of overfill. Total packed weight with the...
Well there are two for sale on the WB site: the 20" is the same one I have and doesn't fit. The 22" is for the XLC so maybe that's the one that works?
That's how I pack my WL Tadpole as well. I just wanted to try this for the HH hex to see if made it any easier to pack it up.
Just chiming in on the tarp-first chorus. My HH hex got me real far before switching to something lighter. Then it got my friend a long way before he hit cuben fiber. Now it will serve my SO until...
Which sack from warbonnet? I tried to stuff it in the sack that came with my WBBB and the sack was gonna split before I got that tarp in there. (Unless I carefully folded and rolled it first, which...
I have been very pleased with the UH CRL - Dutch hook spliced on one end, bury on the other. Stingerz attached to tarp, pull it tight and done. Minimal fiddle factor.
At first, I thought "Well, obviously you need them because...." but then I couldn't come up with a really good answer.
^^This, though. That's somewhat helpful.
CRL for me. I used the method described in the 2nd video on this page (with a stinger in place of the flyz). http://theultimatehang.com/2012/11/video-using-continuous-ridge-lines-with-a-tarp/
Looks like you're running a camping supply store there!
Really cool video, man! Never hiked out west but looks worth the trip. What sort of camera did you shoot your video with?
Thanks for posting. Now I want to buy a sewing machine and give this a go!
Truth. Used to be people had no idea what you had going on under that tarp and since you weren't making any waves, there was no reason to make up rules about them.
Then they started selling them...
I tend to agree that weight savings isn't really a good argument for or against the 3/4 length quilt. If it get's nippy, you'll want something under your feet which means carrying something to put...
This same issue came up with a Virginia State Park in Stafford county near Quantico MCB several years back. I looked through my old posts and I believe user BadChef was the one trying to lobby for...
Thanks, everyone. I'll try to remember to take some pics and post it back up for the benefit of others seeking to do the same thing.
I may just end up doing that. Sounds like a cheap and practical approach. Did the gorilla tape hold up ok when restuffing the bag?
Behind the house where I grew up there was a tree with the blade from a circular saw implanted half the diameter of the blade into the tree at about 3 stories high. The tree seemed fine, but I bet...
Appreciate that, but I own several sets of snakeskins and they stay at home in my closet. I know lots of people like them, but once I tried putting my tarp in a stuff sack similar to the hammock, I...
I'm repurposing some of my gear for my better half's first outing. She'll be using my HH Hex Fly and I'd like to set it up in a bishop bag for ease of deployment on a CRL. Has anyone found a suitably...
I had seen pics of pillows with that attachment. I just threw mine out of the hammock and never went back. With your suggestion, I might revisit the issue.
Glad I'm not the only one to have made that error.
I second that. Great cheap upgrade. Then again, I waited forever to change it, so maybe it just seems like the ropes were worse than they really were in retrospect.
I never win anything, but here goes: Be Happy design is my favorite
A Warbonnet Blackbird with the double-layer option would be another possible choice. Safe travels!
I noticed this the first time I used my latest ridge line (Zing-it). Had no idea about "creep." Learn something new every day.
I bet that box is the warmest one in the plane's cargo hold.
Fair point.
TBH, I probably should have bought stock in Sawyer's years ago. I've contributed a great deal to their permethrin sales over time.
My wife is getting into hanging and so I've been trying to give her a head start to avoid the various experiments I undertook in my early days. She'll be skipping the pad phase and going straight to...
Couldn't agree more. My WL gear is some of my favorite and the price is right!
As others have said, fiddle with the set-up this week just to get comfortable with your gear. With that gear list and some friends who also hang, you'll be golden.
Yep - I find adding clothes to be effective in extending the range of a TQ. The SSTQ is breathable to some extent, so it's great in the heat. Add some layers of clothes and a beanie, and I got down...
Not to hijack, but how do you keep that pillow from ending up anywhere but under your head? I had something very similar and ditched it because it was always next to my butt by morning.
Intriguing - what's the weight on that insulated version? Does it pack down reasonably well?
Personally, I never forego the UQ.
If you have some warm weather to test it in, you might consider spending a few bucks to mock up some things if cash is tight. For example, you could make a simple PLUQ which is close to a 3/4. It...
Watch out for pack rats (no not your friend carrying the 90L bag with 100lbs of gear). One of those little buggers tried to untie our tarp suspensions and run away with the zing-it one night....
I've had a SSTQ for a couple seasons now and have used it in the height of summer and the dead of winter (with a 20o UQ) - love it. I'll be ordering the full length SSUQ soon to complete my set.
If you find this promised land of "making up your mind" on hammock gear, you will have achieved a level of hammock enlightenment I can't even imagine. I started with a borrowed vietnam-era jungle...
Yeah, it will melt synthetics. All that said, I've been climbing in and out of my HH and later my WBBB with it on for years and have never had a problem. I just assumed that real damage was most...
I read somewhere the other day (I think it was an article about Zika virus) that said there were no good studies showing that picaridin was effective against ticks. Doesn't mean it isn't, just that...
I suspect, as others have said, that your bag is just too heavy for the cord. My first UQ was a PLUQ and I had the opposite problem - cord was so springy with so little weight on it that it would...
Was it new or used? If used, I wonder if the ridgeline had begun to leak for the previous owner and they simply used the wrong material to seal it. (Then again, my hex fly has never leaked even in...
I have an old HH Exped with the 2QZQ zipper mod. I've used TeWa Breeze, HG Incubator 20, a DIY PLUQ, and a pad over the years (not all at the same time). The bottom entry isn't too much of an issue...
So I am trying out the rap ring and carabiner solution with my HH Exped and I have a question. What do you do when the tree is too big for the webbing strap to wrap around? When using the traditional...
Thanks for link. From what I can tell, its just a matter of how close to the water you want to be. Some of the ocean-side campsites are on open sand, others are closer to the edge of the woods.
I...
Just bumping to see if there were any updates/response to the letter.
HFers,
Have any of you ever camped in False Cape State Park near Virginia Beach? I understand that there are bay-side and ocean-side camp sites but I'm wondering if they are treed enough to...
Just another satisfied customer here. I just received my HH Exped back with a new Mod 3 zipper from 2QZQ. The quality of the work is top notch. I've had my hammock since 2007 and you'd never know...
