I currently have it configured with 15' of Zing It on each end...
Javan makes quality stuff. Never heard anything bad about them over at Backpackinglight.
I have not made the optional third layer yet. Want to see how this works first. I am planning on just making it the same shape/darts as the top layer currently. I will attach grosgrain to the corners...
The lengthwise pleats are placed to provide separation between layers. The darts are placed to provide shape to the UQ.
Work and live in Northern Virginia. Was at the office when it happened. Our entire building started shaking. It was pretty crazy. We were evacuated and ended up going home early. Traffic was nuts...
I am not sure I could even consider myself a so, so sewer! I am learning though. Just take your time and think it through and you can do it. If I can, anyone can.
First off I would like to thank MacEntyre for spending the time to provide me feedback on my plans and overall instruction and advise. The UQ would not have turned out as well as it did without his...
I can only speak for the tarp I have, the OES MadCat Standard. I love it so far. Enough room underneath and coverage overall.
Ordered everything to make a 2 layer IX UQ, with an optional 3rd layer insert yesterday. Looking forward to putting this project together. I have a 5 day trip planned the first week in Sept, so it...
So I am putting together my shopping list and plans for a IX UQ. I am going to be using 2 layers, with a 3rd optional layer for colder weather. Hoping the 2 layer will be good for warmer months and...

I am contemplating putting together an IX UQ. I think I will be doing two layers, with a single outside shell.
What fabric should I do the shell in? Was sorta thinking about going with M90....
Thanks for the links and such!
I have Saturday Sept 3rd through either Tuesday the 6th or Wednesday the 7th to go on a trip. I have been planning to do SNP from 33/Elkton to the end of the park, but I am starting to toy with the...
From Northern Virginia myself. I hear there is good Pizza in Crozet.
Awesome! I was a little worried about that after I pulled the Z-Line out of the Flyz, because it did seem a bit worn after just one use. I will PM you now - your the best!
Thanks for all the...
Yah I am using Lawson Kline's 7" Ti shepard hooks - and I was experiencing the slight bend when applying pressure into rocky ground.
Snakeskins for the tarp is something I am also interested in....
Im jealous of your DIY skills - great job!
First off - big thanks to everyone here on the forums with the help switching from a ground dweller to a completely addicted hanger. I have been pretty obsessed with backpacking and ultralight...
I have sent te-wa an email asking about something between a breeze and a flurry. I am thinking 6oz of down, might also ask him about making it a little less wide...need to take some measurements with...
I can't decide on what to do for an UQ.
I would like to get something before a trip next month where the temps will dip to maybe 60 at night. Ultimately I need an UQ that will go lower for at...
Got the shipping info last night - MadCat Standard is on the way! Can't wait to dial in this setup and begin enjoying some nights in the hammock and under this tarp!
Looks like a great tarp. Thanks for the hard work, I appreciate all trail maintainers. I also hike often in SNP, was just there this past weekend!
Just ordered my MadCat Standard the other day, can't wait to get it.
So I just got my bugsock from Papa Smurf, and it rocks! I set everything up in the backyard today and tested it out.
My setup so far:

Nice tarp for a good price!
OES is not selling spinn tarps anymore - are you getting one elsewhere?
I recently overnighted the section between Linden/66 and Bears Den/Route 7. The rollercoaster was pretty rough, especially because I did 5 miles of it after doing almost 15 already prior.
Overall...
I am new to the hammock scene. I recently picked up a Nano 7, with whoopie sling suspension. Almost fell asleep yesterday laying in the back yard first time using it. I have an email in to PapaSmurf...
I worked on this over the weekend, and I am 90% done with the top quilt.
I gathered all of my materials and tools on Saturday afternoon. I have never sewn before. I played around with some scrap...
It is a top quilt. I am going to incorporate channels in the top/bottom for shock cord closure.
For sure going with the inside/out method. Thanks for the video!
This is sort of how I have been envisioning. I just need to figure out how to neatly incorporate the shock cord channels into the main piece of fabric. I think I have it figured out, I just need to...
I have read everything I can find and acquired some materials. I plan to work on this over this coming weekend.
I have gathered most of my inspiration from the following instructions:...
