If no one responds directly, keep an eye on the group hang/trip planning board for people planning a hang near you, and go. Then you can get the one on one from multiple perspectives at once, and...
I can't try your strap question, because I've not used the Atlas straps, but before I modded my SN, I just tied my ridgeline to the carabiners. I've seen others larkshead them on to the line behind...
I use webbing and cinch buckles, the webbing being some nylon climb webbing I bought before learning climbing gear is often designed to stretch. I usually hang at my waist height (I'm 6'3" with an...
Seconding the Dawn Dish soap. I use it as a pretreat for those occasions when the bacon grease splashes and turns into oil stains on tech t shirts and it works great. Gently work it into the stain,...
Update, the nite ize cord measures the listed 2.4mm and will slip slightly through the stock line locks on my dry fly if pulled hard. The stock lines slipped a bit too under hard tension. Will still...
I had the same problem with the core breaking through the braid on my dry fly. I just ordered some nite ize reflective cord that claims a 2.4 mm diameter. Came pretty cheap so I figured it was worth...
Truly heartbreaking to lose people under such circumstances. The outdoors can be a dangerous place, but I think most would agree the rewards are worth the risk.
As far as repairing the holes, the one in the pic looks small enough to be stitched closed. Wouldn't be the prettiest, but a few minutes with needle and thread could close those up.
Wow, thank you for a wealth of information...now if only I could find the laser system at my local spring goods store.
I really like the price on that. I can't tell from the site, how does it close?
My DIY project made from a Coghlans bugnet, permethrin, and a couple loops of cord tied with taut line hitches worked well for most of my trips, but I found myself sleeping with a lot of company...
Dont know if it's the best, but hang foods and odorous items, toss pocket items in hammock pouch, put backpack on contractor bag beneath my hammock and tarp.
I've seen PVC stands that work, but the designs i've looked at are typically glued together for strength, so they wouldn't be as portable as it sounds like you want. It would be a big challenge to...
A Few more Pics attached. Batch uploader to PB just finished, here's a link to an album of the trip:

The weather for this trip was unbelievable. I know the word perfect is sometimes over used, but this weekend was pretty close to it. The days came with bright sunshine broken occasionally by a...
Trip report coming as soon as I unload my pack and upload some pics.
Yeah, my mother in law was giving me the play by play as soon as she heard the story. I wasn't too worried considering they had found the vehicle on the opposite end of the forest from the shelters...
I'm just glad that the weekend forecast seems to get better each time I check. I was a little worried about my dirt cheap sleeping bag (and its 20* rating that the Amazon community all agree is 15 -...
I'm thinking about taking Lorax's suggested hike in from the Greenbush campground Friday night. Planning to throw my pack and a change of clothes in the trunk, then have my wife drop me off after...
Is there room enough for a ground dwelling friend of mine to join?
Edit: scratch that, he forgot this will be one of his work weekends.
Not that I know of. The introduction of the hardware adds a small amount of weight to your setup. It comes with a trade off of convenience. For example, if you were using webbing through a cinch...
I'm still in. I'm a bit out of shape yet this season, but looks like I shouldn't have a problem having the wife drop me off for a short walk in, there's a short walk between the sites, then a short...
The sharp heavy steel biners bugged me, enough that I put on some cinch buckles from Dutch and take the extra time to tie a henessey lash...at 260, the 400 rating is too low to leave me comfortable...
Time and location work for me, I'm in.
I bought 30' of webbing and cut it in half, so 15/side. I have yet to need all of it, but I tie off with a henessey style lashing so the extra length is handy.
Good luck finding a fix. Straps are more temperamental about load directions and orientation than regular ropes. When you're setting it up try to imagine which direction your setup will be pulling...
I've read on the IAT portion through the park there. I've not done much actual backpacking though, I mostly go car based due to the preferences of the company I keep. I've got access to an old town...
One of the established sites in the Ottawa lake campground, going as a car camping shakedown trip close to home to check out gear and packing for the season.
I'd be interested depending on the dates. I'll be camping in Kettle Moraine South the weekend of the 18th in May. I think I'll follow this thread just to see what y'all wind up with and I'd love to...
Would the kind of spray paint meant for plastics work?
Do you have any extra silnylon scraps you can test different paints on?
I think it sounds cool. I like little morale patches and stuff on...
Definitely on
my list. Limited budget makes it hard, but I watch carefully for sale prices.
I'm not sure of the weight, but the one I picked up was less than 5 dollars just a cheap coughlan's net. I figured it was cheap enough that if I started cutting it up and messed up I wouldn't care....
You could buy a bugnet intended to cover you when you're on the ground, then make two holes on either side for your hammock suspension to thread through. Then just use a loop stitch around the edges...
Hello,
My name is Pauly from Milwaukee, Wi, and I started hanging on my last two camping trips of last year. I had been considering it for a while, then saw an ENO singlenest on sale online...
