I am headed out Friday for an over night at Long Hunter State Park Near Nashville. I have yet to hammock in warmer weather. I was wondering how to plan for mid 60 degree nights as far as bottom...
We are planning a trip in early or mid November for a section of the AT through the Smokies.
Our initial plan is to arrive in Gatlinburg on Wednesday night, at meet the shuttle fairly early on...
On Friday, April 5, 2013, I headed to Big South Fork National Recreation Area for some much needed solitude. I arrived at Bandy Creek Campground early in the afternoon to register and get a permit....
Potneck, I'm sorry that I won't get to meet you. Hopefully another time. Bowl-maker, let me know if you make it. I will be there through Sunday. I think that I mistakenly said that I was coming out...
I have decided to Park at Middle Creek and do a combination of Middle Creek, Slave Falls and Twin Arches. If anyone would like to meet up, just PM me. I should get there early afternoon on Friday and...
I think I'll save honey creek for another day.
I have never done the honey creek loop? Anyone interested? Better ideas?
A few years ago, we started at bandy and did the jmt , grand gap and came up laurel fork back to bandy. It was a good hike.
What trails are you considering in BSF ?
I enjoy bsf and frozen head. Any suggestions on the Cumberland trail. I am not opposed to an in and out hike. The maps seem to be a little vague to me. At least for trip planning.
I am hitting the woods (somewhere), April 5th-7th. I haven't decided where to go. Thinking about Big South Fork. Anyone interested in joining? I plan on leaving Nashville around noon on Friday and...
Like the biners and rings! I also use whoopies on my clark, but am considering trying the biners and rings on it as well.
I am ok with the whoopies. I'm sure that my complaint with them is the same as everyone else... if there is weight on them, they are hard/impossible to adjust. If I had three hands, I would love...
I have a bottom loader as well. My theory is to get a UQ and make an opening in it like the hammock. You would have to close it manually I guess or make it overlap, but maybe it would work....
Thanks for the info! I may test it. The custom fit and compactness is hard to resist!
I have the NX 250 with the same pad and sleeping bag from Big Agnes. I love it!!! Looking into underquilts. I have slept in mine in the high 20's... a little cool, but not miserable.
Gotta stick with my Clark NX 250!!
It seems to me that you would not want to sacrifice your hammock like that! In an emergency, yes, maybe, but not to be closer to the fire. I think that your best bet would be to tie a rope or strap...
I have an Expedition Asym (bottom loader). My question is, What temp is the supershelter insulation system rated for. Does it work?Is it any good? ETC.
Welcome to the growing club! I live in Mt. Juliet we are always looking for people to join us on our trips. I haven't convinced my regular companions to leave the ground yet, but I keep trying!
Welcome from Nashville! My son attends Univ. of Memphis, so maybe you can let me know some good hanging spots near there! Good luck!
Not sure what temps that you will be sleeping in, but I would guess that below 40 degrees f, you will be a little chilly. I used a car windshield reflector for bottom insulation and was a bit chilly...
I have a bottom loader and enjoy it! I will admit though, that I upgraded to a Clark NX 250. I like them both. I think of the Hennessy as my summer hammock. the only mods I have done to either of...
There is a prison near the park but I don't know if is closed. I don't think know if you can see the prison from the tower. The only times that I have been up there, the visability was zero.
I had...
I hope that she enjoyed it as much as you did! I expect that she did, but doesn't know it yet! I always say that I am making memories for my kids, but in reality, I am making them for me!
I hope to...
Last spring, I took a little trip to Frozen Head State Park near Harriman, TN. I began my hike mid afternoon on the Spicewood Branch trail with my first night's destination being Tub Springs...
I couldn't find the charger for my camera, so those pics were from my phone. There would have been more and of better quality otherwise.
I woke up on Saturday morning to snow. After the three of us backed out, I checked the weather and decided to go solo. Because I was getting a late start, I decided to begin at Tater Knob Overlook...
Thanks for the suggestions! I have the insulated air core. I will post some pics and a little trip report next week.
My last trip was in the Smokies last October and I only took the windshield...
Planning a quick overnighter for this weekend to Bearwaller Gap in Carthage, TN. One hanger and two tents (I haven;t converted them yet). Just a short trip to get some hang time! Then back out in...
I have an overnighter planned for this weekend at Bearwaller Gap near Carthage, TN. The weather is forcasted to be around 33 degrees for a low with snow showers. I am planning on using my Big Agnes...
I have a baltoro 75 and a nx250. I love them both! I put the hammock in a dry bag and load it in the bottom compartment. I put the sleeping bag and kitchen stuff side by side on top of that and...
I have a Hennessey Asym ( the bottom loader). I upgraded to the NX-250. I slept ok in the Hennessey, but I sleep great in the Clark. I haven't slept in either below 38 degrees, but I can say that the...
I have a Hennessey asym and I can tell you that it takes some experimenting to get it right. I switched to a Clark nx 250 which I find to be much warmer. I still like the Hennessey though. They...
I will post pics and submit a trip report ASAP. Will include several hammock pics
I appreciate the info! It will be very helpful!
I have seen the posts about that... I'll try to make it. What route are you guys taking?
This will be my third outing with the NX-250, so I am looking forward to seeing how it performs in cooler temps and especially since I have figured out the dreaded "learning curve" at least a little.
We are planning on Leaving Elkmont and camping the first night @ Campsite # 30. Then @ # 21 on the second night. The info that I have so far is that #21 is in a boulder field and that it is little...
Does anyone know anything about the Little River Overnight Loop in GSMNP?
We are now looking at that loop.
We are hitting the trail Thursday morning and returning Saturday afternoon. The hike is about 17 miles should will be moderate in difficulty (whatever that means)! I'm not sure about the use of...
I have a Hennessy Asym Explorer and a Clark NX-250. Both are good, but to me, the Clark is the Cadillac! Once you get the learning curve down, it is fantastic! I use a sleeping pad that inserts into...
About two years ago, I was doing a fifty mile segment of the Sheltowee Trace in Kentucky. We hiked the first day in perfect weather. Soon after going to bed in my tent, the rain started. I slept...
I have a Big Agnes Lost Ranger sleeping bag that has a sleeve for a sleeping pad instead of putting down on the bottom (which compresses and does no good any way). The set up works really well for...
I wonder if sprinkling cayenne ( not sure about the spelling) pepper would deter the curiosity of bears?
Some friends and I are going to spend the weekend Wakeboarding on Dale Hollow Lake! Dale Hollow is located on the Tennessee/Kentucky border and is an awesome lake! The down side is that I have to...
Welcome to the forum! Go Preds!
I just bought my second hammock. I'm kind of glad to hear that most people on here seem to have multible hammocks.
I just got an NX 250 and love it! I'm sure that you won't need the NX series where you are going, but you can't beat the sleep in a Clark. I slept til 10:30 am the first night. Even the three...
