Hahaha! Myself, I would have added a canopy : )
My gear (hammock, quilts, tarp, UQP) is all dark olive or brown. They all match together very nicely and disappear nicely amongst the trees and underbrush.
Unlike many others I've read about here...
By definition, hangers are not average people : )
Try suspending a mattress off the ground, outside, in a forest. Not as easy as it sounds : )
I've been using Dutch Biners, haven't had an issue.
I only have one tarp, it's a SuperFly (the newer, with doors, model). If I get another, without doors, I think I'd get the MacCat Deluxe.
I use Dutch Clips AND Dutch Biners for my hammock (both ends), and a Dutch Flyz on one end of my tarp with a Dutch Stingerz on the other end. I just ordered some Dutch quilt hooks (aluminum) that I...
It seems to me that there are actually two different concerns in this thread: first, the fact of whether or not a business (cottage or otherwise) places importance on customer service; and, second,...
Welcome from Leland!
Enjoy yourself. It's been over forty years since I've done my first solo hike, and it changed my world forever after. They say that you never forget your first kiss, well, I have to confess, I...
Good for you! I hope you really enjoy yourself. Don't be surprised if your son wants one too now : )
Hey, timd, I'll trade locations with you any time you want : )
Welcome from the extreme south-east!
Any woodworker (not construction worker but a true woodworker) will completely disagree with you, Junebugdawn. Wood continues to breath, expanding and contracting, and continues to grow, condensing...
Both great hammocks! I had the same dilemma a few months back, between the exact same two hammocks, when deciding which one to purchase for my upcoming AT thru-hike.
I had the opportunity to lay...
As far as protection from scratches and whatnot you'll be okay, but any moisture from the ground will seep through and dampen whatever is on top; if it rains, it will probably soak whatever is on top.
G'Day Mate...glad you decided to jump in, the water here is fine : )
I'm just recently a hammock convert, but even when using a tent previously I've always adhered to the fact that nothing is better for the body and mind after a long day's hike then a good night's...
On my laptop lid, which is almost completely covered now.
Congrats! You won't be disappointed. I really love the added netting on the XLC and wished the standard had that as an option.
Welcome!
I have to say that I admire you tree climbers ever since I saw this National Geographic episode on some scientist/botanist (not sure what he was really but he was significant to his...
Not my cup of tea but I would think they could be just as effective for a ground dweller, either inside or outside the tent, no?
Welcome!
I, too, joined to learn about hammock camping for the exact same reason...ground was getting too hard and, also, I was getting tired of crawling in and out of a tent.
Additionally, I...
Mountain Goat for my Superfly. Love the cordage pockets...I not sure if WL's incorporate those.
Got mine last November and been using it a lot since then. Can't be happier. Great product!
Haha, definitely Dutch Gear; and I am saying that because I just placed a $75 dollar order!
I disagree. I've been using my recently acquired UGQ all the time as a throw when movie watching. I'd also definitely use it if I needed to use my tent, in place of using a sleeping bag.
I opted for the Superfly. Like you stated, attached doors and pullouts...made my life much easier.
I have some issues with the post office here too, where I live. One of the great things about the Internet is the ability to easily track your packages. The last time it arrived at the PO and they...
I'll be thru-hiking the AT this year and will be taking all three, tarp, uq, and uqp. While I haven't had the need to try it yet, I figure there will be times when only the uqp will provide the...
Welcome from your Northern neighbor.
I am currently about 20lbs lighter than you and a half-inch shorter and I can tell you that I get no calf ridge due to the WBBB's footbox. I tried two hammocks of the same size, without the footbox...
I agree entirely. I'm a member of a few other forum sites as well and none compare to the helpfulness and genuine friendliness I've experienced on this site. It's so refreshing!
cool pic...looks like a magical fairy fire or arcane flames or something...abracadabra! Maybe that's not a dog...are you a...shapeshifter?
Just acquired my first set of quilts (top and under) from UGQ in December, 2013, and just acquired my first hammock (WWBB) in November, 2013. Had only used a sleeping bag and tent prior. I've slept...
Welcome!
Can't help you with your request other than stating that you can't really go wrong with a Warbonnet Blackbird.
I look forward to one day hiking your country along the International...
Thanks, Jeep! Don't give up...it has taken me 40 years to finally get to a point where I can fulfill my dream (i.e., inner obsession) of thru-hiking the AT...hopefully you'll only have to wait for...
I've looked at the Gossamer Gear supplies online. I'm not sure if I want to go completely frameless...hence the reason why I need to get over to REI or whatever to test out packs for real...like...
I haven't chosen a pack yet. I have a 35 year old Jansport expedition pack (external frame) that I use for overnights and such. While its a great pack, it's overkill for the AT, and I can definitely...
Going to ground is not something I want to do. I've been hearing that its required in the GSMNP and in parts of Maine. Any advice for avoiding it completely would be greatly appreciated...thanks!
I'm planning an AT thru-hike this year. I have all my sleeping/shelter gear ( https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=86521 ) but being new to hammock usage I'm concerned about having to...
I have a WBBB with tie outs for both the "shelf" and "footbox" and have no problems using a full length under quilt...can't comment on a 3/4 length UQ.
I had to chuckle Ghost, I was in the same position as you just a couple months ago...flipping from one great hammock to another...should I get the Blackbird, the Dangerbird, the Blackbird XLC...it...
ATHiker -- currently, I could not tell you the exact weight of the combined items, sorry. As I stated in an earlier post, I will be doing extensive gear testing (not just for the hammock gear) in a...
I've considered doing NOBO but opted for the flip-flop for my own personal reasons...short story: it fits my goals better and just "feels" right for me. Not many opt for the flip-flop hike. If you'd...
It's possible we may meet up on the trail. My father lives on top of Lookout Mt.
in Mentone, Al...I'll be heading over there in March for extensive equipment testing and "training" for four or five...
I love the added netting that's on the Warbonnet XLC and wished they made the Blackbird that way as an option.
I recently purchased a WBBB and can not say enough good things about it. One of the...
Flip-flopping from Harper's Ferry --> Maine, Harper's Ferry --> Georgia. My start date is not nailed down just yet, but sometime mid to late May.
Sorry, but I am not a photo person...never have...
I have recently acquired all my sleeping/shelter gear for my AT thru-hike and wanted to sincerely thank everyone on this forum for all their valuable information and advice, without which I may have...
BHK is also responsible for making the Dave Canterbury Pathfinder knife, another fine bushcrafting knife. You'll probably have better luck selling your knife on a forum such as
bushcraftusa...just a...
