Conventional wisdom says to set the ridgeline length at 83% of the hammock length.
Intesting observations. I wholeheartedly agree with you that the extra long hammock is muting whatever effects the end cut is imparting to the lay.

OK, just to completely mess up my mind, I am thinking of doing this parallelogram hammock on a DOUBLE layer hammock, BUT, cut the angles in the OPPOSITE direction for each layer!!
