I always wear down booties in the hammock with just my top quilt, they are light to pack, ultra warm, and you never have to worry about your feet coming out of them like when using extra insulation...
I used the Super Shelter several times the year I bought it, was always cold (Ontario winter). nothing fit the way it should have. Went to Jacks R Better UQ/TP and will never go back. The warmth of...
Great quilts, I've used JRB for a few years now on both HH and Clark NX-250, always warm in the coldest of winter. One word of advice, get an undercover it cuts the wind and prevents it from blowing...
Mount Washington 4 recorded a few weeks ago getting my winter gear ready.

I have the exact set up with camo tarp and camo undercover. Great hammock no need to change.

I live in Ontario and use the Jacks R Better Mt Washington UQ, always warm no matter what temperature I sleep out in. Here is a link to a video I made a few weeks ago testing out my winter Clark...
I use a winter weight UQ by itself and have never had a problem on the coldest Ontario nights.
Nice pics of BDL.
We scouted a couple of small lakes on crown land called Duncs Lake, and Kate's Lake. Never made it to Kate's as we decided to take the trail into Duncs. The lakes are situated on...
Once again sorry for the delay but business travel has taken over, it looks like Easter weekend it is...
Larry B and I are going to scout out a spot near Calabogie just up from Highwat 7 this...
JRB make quality gear, good purchase.
I used it on my HH for a few years, good in cool weather but here in Canada when the temps dips below -10 extra insulation is required. The fit on the over cover does not work well on windy nights.
...
Love my JRB quilts
On my next trip out I'll take some detailed close ups and post them. We're probably looking at the first weekend in Feb.
Sorry for the delay but I've been traveling all over working for a new technology start up and don't have much time these days.
I'm going to consult Larry B this weekend and set a date, I'm...
Was just out this weekend in -15 deg C temps with a change to freezing rain during the night, woke up and the tarp was frozen rigid, old man winter threw cold, snow, and rain at us all in one night....
I dont ski but use snowshoes. So don't let that stop you. However insulation will be a problem.
If you fix the insulation issue we can always pick you up at the bus station in Ottawa.
Dec 21st falls on a Sunday and I have to work on Monday so I'm out.
Hey Larry, possibly an overnighter near Ottawa on Saturday night? Or maybe even a stealth overnighter in the Greenbelt? Anyway...
It is indeed a beautiful place with a snowmobile trail leading in, if I recall correctly there was an area where the trail intersects the road where one could park overnight.
Welcome from Ottawa.
Welcome from Canada, love to stealth camp as well.
There is a trail (ATV/snowmobile) heading in from the road, it's only around a KM but once you're in there is a lot to explore.
We'll try a juggle the dates to accommodate as many as we can, so...
How about the weekend of March 7th?
I would probably take the Friday off and hang Friday and Saturday nights.
Head up the weekend before and build an igloo. Always nice to have one, makes a great...
For that kind of money you could buy:
Hammock
Tarp
New backpack
UQ
TQ
Cook kit
A whole new outfit and still be just as warm because that is overkill
Yes we're looking at Limestone Lake, open for trout year round.
LB and I spent the night out at the lake last weekend and lucked out with the first snowfall of the season.
We plan on taking a...
Was out this weekend in cold weather (started to Snow on Sunday night) and woke up with a few cold spots on my arms. After further investigation, testing, and moving things around it would appear the...
It will be a "park the car" and snow shoe or ski in. Lots of crown land to explore, frozen lakes, might even have a igloo up by then.
Always roll them up into a figure eight then wedge them into the plastic eyelets where the line is tied to the tarp, never any tangles.
Please let us know how it works out once you field test it.
Smart move to test at home, much easier to walk into the house should something go wrong.
Let us know how your first trip works out.
Which quilts are you ordering.
Sounds good, what type of insulation are you looking at?
Welcome to the forum from Ottawa, if you hang in cold weather and are in eastern Ontario let me know, my friend and I are organizing a group hang near Ottawa this coming winter.
Hanging with a friend one night and we hear crashing in the bush around us coming from every side. Next I heard a yelp from one side, then a bark from the other, then more crashing sound as a couple...
I use a down UQ from JRB (Mt. Washington 4), it compresses well, does not take up too much room in my pack amd keeps me warm on the coldest winter nights. Also it fits nicely on the Clark .
I'm hanging in a Clark now due to the weather shield for these Canadian winters but several years ago I ordered some gear from Hennessey and of course the next week that gear went on sale. I called...
Try a dry bag used in canoe trips, they are waterproof and ompress well by rolling the top down. If space is an issue you can strap them outside your backpack.
How did that work for you? I use the JRB Mt Washington 4 and love it in winter.
I too felt the same way when I first got my Clark, after a few outings and some experimentation with various hangs I found a hang that works for me, I'm more of a flat sleeper so I hang the Clark...
Slept in a HH for years, picked up a Clatk last winter, no turning back, love it.
No need for a tight hang, the Clark allows a flat side sleeper like my comfort when layimg on a diagonal.
When hanging the hammock I find if the zippers are able to close as closly as possible...
I agree 100% but would add; best to build a small fire and dry out any wet clothing, boots, or shoes before bed. Moisture in a hammock on a multi day trip in cooler weather can lead to big trouble...
I have an NX-250 and hang with my feet higher than my head. I find laying straight very comfortable with just enough of a curve to relax my back yet when I lay on a diagonal I can sleep comfortably...
I found when using an UQ for insulation and stuffing the pockets with gear it made cold spots and a miserable sleep. Only did that once. Stick to the UQ by itself.
I am able to cram my vertex tarp and hammock into the built in pocket stuff sack on the NX-250 without any problem, after securing the Velcro closure a couple of straps enable further compression....
I love my Clark and agree, it's not bulky if you use additional straps to compress.
I had a HH for years, switched to a Clarke because I liked the built in weather shield, it can get very cold up in Canada hanging in winter. No turning back now, I'm a Clarkie. Just so many usable...
I have an NX-250 with the Vertex tarp and almost always set it up in porch mode, I never camp in a state or provincial camp ground only on public wilderness land. I have never had a problem setting...
I too use an UQ on my clark, at first when I switched from a HH to the Clark I wasn't sure if the UQ would fit with the hoop poles, but the fit is snug and warm.
Good stuff, once the site/date is selected we'll be sure to give you plenty of notice.
Fur hat, trappers style, tied under the chin on the reply cold nights keeps my bald head warm.
Otherwise I wear a fleece balaclava
Nice work!
After seeing your quilt I have to check the endangered species listings to see the status of geese.:)
