We tested it in his room and he's going with 12'- like you said we can always shorten it. He is sewing even as we speak! Gotta love a kid who takes after dad!
My son is making his own hammock (as he is using mine in his room to sleep in) and thinks he might go 12'. Are there any drawbacks to a 12' hammock?
slowhike,
yes i am using a larks head on the suspension to hammock. i don't think the type of rope i'm using is allowing the knot(hitch) to tighten completely thus letting it slide up against and...
Yes i did hem the ends. i think i figured out what happened. i changed the ropes i used for the suspension from a 5/16 polypropylene stranded to a 3/8 cotton core braided. i don't think the braided...

i will have to disagree about this comment. i was standing about 75' from a telephone pole that got hit by lightning and got a substantial shock and tasted my fillings for a long while. Just being...

Knotty,
i practiced alittle with some small pieces then just went ahead and did the fold sew, fold sew thing. The hardest part was just the sheer length of it, trying to move it evenly while holding...

The whole idea of the double bottom is because I'm 260 and I though that a double layer might support me better. Would it just be easier to go with a single layer of 1.7 or 1.9?
Chris
Thanks for you responses. My wife was concerned that might leave the edge inside open to fraying. Do you guys think that would be an issue?
Chris
i will be making a double bottom hammock out of 1.5 oz ripstop. Could i lay my panels down "face to face" sew around 3 edges then pull it right side out and then roll hem the one end. i am trying to...

i will be making my own gathered end hammock. i am 260 lbs so i will be using two layers for the hammock. My question is will 1.1 oz ripstop nylon be heavy enough to support me?
Chris

What makes it asymmetrical and not just a gathered end hammock?? Is it just where the tie down thingies are attached?
God bless,
Chris
