I took my Skeeter Beeter and only got a couple of hours in it. My daughters took up residence in it most of the time. Guess I'll be buying a couple more Wally World specials for them!

I think my 6 year old likes it!
It's always easier to ask for fogiveness than permission. I'll put it up after we get that nasty dome thing erected (my wife and kids don't like to sleep above the ground!) and see what they say.

Headed there in the morning. Gonna find out if the Corps of Engineers allows a hammock to be hung. Taking the wife and kids. Should be fun!

I'm going to buy a tarp. I am looking at the Kelty 9 or the Bushcraft Outfitters 10X10. Both are around $60. Is one better than the other?
Brian
Well, what if I were to put it in a sleeve that would seal up around the hammock. It would reflect the body heat back to you wouldn't it? Not trying to be a smarty just thinking out loud.
Hmmm.... I'm thinking maybe suspend from under the hammock....
I'm sure this has been discussed and I am missing it some where but I'll ask anyway. I work in shipping and recieving and we get boxes in that have a refletix type material inside them. I am curious...
I think it will be late summer before he gets time off to come out. I'm a planner so that's why I asked this early. I think we are looking at 2 nights. Maybe a hike in, camp, hike out, camp close to...
Anyone been around the Buffalo river? Have a friend coming this summer that wants to go down for a 3 day hike/camp. Needing some info for good trails and spots to hang. It'll be his first time out....
It came. I saw. Gonna send it back if I can. It had a hole in it. Kinda bummed. Buy a kelty I guess?
Well I ordered one. I guess I will see when it gets here. I don't plan to be in any pumpkin floater storms and check the weather several times before I go out. I know there is always the chance of...
Well, I'm a cheap sob. I started with a wally world hammock and a blue poly tarp. I packed it into an ALICE pack with a blanket from the bed and a sleeping pad from Uncle Sam. Not much has changed....
Trying to find some people to hang with down here.
Brian
I bought an old bag at a garage sale and am planning to use it as my top quilt. Are there any modifications I should do before doing so?
Hey guys! I am looking for an aluminum pack frame. You know the old kind you used to see the scouts use.
Thanks,
Brian
Got a one nighter! Nowhere to get water so we had to pack it in. Wasn't
my most restful nights sleep but it was better than a tent. Had my head too high so I kept sliding down.
We are all hanging for the first time. Severe storms here tonight but the weekend looks great! Pics will be posted!
I'll be making my first official hang this weekend. Me and 2 other guys headed out for some r&r. I'll post pics Sunday night!
I personaly would not be with out an E blanket. There are so many uses if you have an equipment fail. You can use them to bake in, put them up inside your tarp for a reflector to add extra warmth,...
So I was at good ol' Wally World tonight and picked up 40' of 1/4" polypro dock line. It has 100# working load. My thoughts were to make a whoopie type ridgeline out of it. Question is has it been...
I am planning to build a "hammock arbor" disguised as a place for a porch swing. Any advice on how far apart the poles should be?
Thanks,
Brian
When I laid in the hammock it put a lot of stress on one side of the bugnet with the rl ran through the tabs. I am new to this so it's trial and error for me. I am thinking of running the rl on the...
Tryinhard because Im always trying hard to accomplish something. I love it when someone says you can't do that. It's just a good excuse for me to prove them wrong!
I had to put an extension on the head end because it was pulling on the stitching pretty hard. It was right where my shoulder is. I'm thinking I can find some small clips of some kind and clip the...
I used a carabiner to attach the tabs to my ridgeline. It stays up off of me and it was a quick and easy fix.
How do you post pics?
Thanks,
Brian
The suspension line would give 10 inches where paracord only gave 3. I rehung it today to try once again and figured it out.
Ok. So I tried putting a ridgeline on my GTSB Pro. Not concerned with the bugnet. I hear and see where people attach them and say they don't bear any weight. How does that work? Every time I...
Is there a standard length that most people start with for a ridgeline?
So I just got my Skeeter Beeter Pro and haven't had the oppertunity to put it up yet. However if I want a ridgeline how would I apply one. I haven't looked at it yet but my first thought is to run...
Is there a right or wrong way to store a hammock or it's accessories?
Thanks,
Brian
How is it suspended?
Thanks,
Brian
My wife just called to say my new Skeeter Beeter Pro has arrived!! Any advice on setting up this hammock????
Brian
I know this is off subject but how do most of you guys pack your stuff for a hike in? Where do you attach your hammock and tarp? Cook kit, sleeping pad, uq, tq, etc locations?
Thanks,
Brian
Is there a set distance everyone tries to hang their tarp from their hammock? I noticed when I set up my el cheapo 8X10 tarp in asym fashion there wasn't a lot of coverage along the long side going...
Thanks man! Just ordered one! I had found a skeeter beeter at walmart.com for $62 but with the free shipping and 20% coupon it's a heck of a deal! Now to figure out a tarp for it! Ha ha ha!!!
I got a buddy of mine interested in hammock camping. He found a Skeeter Beeter at walmart.com for $62 and wants to know if it's a good deal or not. Can you guys help me out?
Thanks,
Brian
Well I watched the videos in the sticky section and decided to use 30" of paracord (I know it will stretch but it's what I had on hand and free beats paying in my book) hooked to 2 solid rings from...
Ok. So my next question is, is it ok to use paracord for the end of the hammock and the ridgeline? I know it will stretch some but I am thinking I want to run it through the channel, use the larks...
I've had it up in the yard a couple of times now and noticed the knots. That is another reason I was thinking about whipping the end. What did you use for tree straps?
Brian
I was just thinking that the hammock would be better off if it was whipped. Less stress on the stitching? Where is a good source for Amsteel? I would like to make whoopie slings for suspension etc....
Hey guys,
I bought a travel hammock from good ol wallyworld. I like it well enough for a first hammock. my question has to do with the end where the suspension is attached. they have a channel...
I have been thinking about tarps all day at work. The best idea I have come up with is buying 2 of the $10 walmart 5X7 "ultralight backpacker tarps" and sewing them together to make a 10X7 tarp. ...
Since I am converting over to hammock camping I am contemplating buying a tent at a garage sale and using it as a tarp. I'm thinking I could use the rainfly as the main portion and add pieces of the...
I do a lot of day hikes in cool to cold weather and am wanting to do 2 or 3 overnighters from late spring through early fall. I'd say 50 to 60 degrees for a low, more of the 60 than the 50. Just...
I was thinking of using fleece blankets. 1 suspended underneath and one on top and using a foam pad in the hammock. Any thoughts?
What do you guys typically use during these times for top and under quilt if anything?
Thanks,
Brian
Can you waterproof polyester blend fabric? Found some curtains that might work as a tarp. $5!!!!
Ok. I understand that part of it.
Thanks Shug!
