Looking for an opinion from the group. I'm coming back to hanging now that the kids are older and less inclined to sleep in a tight two person tent with dear old dad.
I had the WBBB as my prior...
FYI - still for sale
Nope, still available.
Shoot me a PM if interested
Hello Everyone,
Warbonnet Blackbird, used about 10 nights, just about perfect condition. It's the 1.1 oz, double layer olive color. $160. Price includes shipping.
This came with the adjustable...
Good deal. I'm glad everything made it to you safely!
Now I just need to unload my BB... if ya know anybody interested....
First off, thanks again to those who picked up the tarp and quilts.
Just a bump to mention that the blackbird hammock is still up for sale. Should be able to get it by Christmas... come on treat...
Yep. I'll cover the shipping costs based on the prices listed.
Hello Everyone,
Up for sale:
Hammock Gear "the burrow" 3 season long size with the snaps & drawstring for the foot box, 900 fill goose down color is the green and black combo. Rated at 30...
this is the second post I've seen about stealth hangin... I think there's a revolution underfoot!
I second this one. Great tarp for the $$$.
I've got the hammock gear UQ (I think phoenix or incubator, can't remember) and really like it. can't go wrong, great down light weight and warm.
only have experience with one and that's the hammock gear burrow. very pleased with it thus far.
very cool. I bet that set up is quick to hang, especially nice in those nasty weather conditions.
Thanks for sharing!
I like Ham-uck, but up from da "nort woods ya know, eh"
small - warbonnet edge. I figure I can pitch low and tight in really nasty weather and even a small tarp will keep me dry enough to not get into trouble (although I won't be as comfortable as I could...
I'm tall (6'4") and went with the 3/4 length. On colder evenings I use a classic blue foam pad for the feet / lower leg and have found this to be a pretty good set up.
I figure if it gets too cold...
6'4" here and love my long sized burrow from Hammock Gear. Great people to work with and I'm sure they could add length if you're concerned.
I can sleep in any position in my blackbird and not...
Very Cool! I hope this is put up as a sticky for the noobs among us!
I'll second the blackbird. have to do the calculation, I'm 6 foot 4 inches and 195 pounds (US).
My only issue with this one is that I have a bum shoulder and if I don't set it up just right I get...
I don't have any experience with the set-ups you're thinking of but have experienced that windy chill. Always is a bummer when the wind changes direction!
Please post what you go with and how it...
sounds like it's time for a garage sale (then you can buy more new gear)!!!:D
I guess I never paid attention to this forum, not cool on my part.
Can't be called a newbie, but that's only due to the great information on this sight. Everyone here helped me get up to speed on...
I've often considered this one, even scouted a few places. Just haven't taken the time. I like the google earth ideas that people have posted. Great way to find a few home town stealth spots!
ultimate car camping rig! I like it, thanks for sharing.
do they make an adult sized one? that would be great in place of our Queen sized bed!
Go for the over stuff. You can always vent the extra few degrees on a warmer night, but it's a lot harder to make up for those degrees when it's colder.
as a cold sleeper i just might have to try this one.
Definitely take Shug's advice. His videos are great and advice is spot on.
If it's between a pad and a top quilt I vote for top quilt. To me, it's just more comfy (having tried BA insul aircore, CCF pad and now and underquilt).
Being wrapped in a cocoon of down is...
I would go underquilt first. You can always get by with a sleeping bag as a top quilt until you save the $$. I also think that using a bag gives you a little more versatility should you have to go to...
Um...WOW!
I had no idea I was opening up such a can of whoopsie slings:D
Great discussion and I really appreciate several points of view. I especially appreciate the acknowledgement of the...
Dude.... You are one lucky human hanger!
Warbonnet edge. Super light (sil version), good enough coverage, if you pitch it well.
Overall very pleased with this piece of gear (but have only had for one season and a handful of trips so no...
Big kitchen tarp usually = ridgeline below so I can hang stuff from it (just canoe and car camping).
Hammock tarp = ridgline tied off to the ends, no continuous ridgeline for me. Seems to work...
I've found weight to be about a wash. As for cost, it is just like picking up all new ground gear, not cheap for the good light stuff.
you can pick up some cheap CCF to cut to a specific shape for...
Nice hide away!
Congrats! The wife is a fun hiking partner, I know from experience (pre-kids that is).
Check out the backpacking light website for ideas on how to reduce the pack weight. Someone that small will...
great work! I do not have the will to deal with that slippery material.
have a burrow and have been pleased with both the quality and customer service.
have a BB and edge tarp and have been pleased with both the quality and customer service.
Um...can't really go...
looking forward to a review of this stuff once someone has a tarp failure ;-)
that would work. I have used bags in the past prior to getting a TQ. As noted before, the under insulation will be critical and keep in mind, a regular pad doesn't work all that well because it's so...
The peapod will probably be a good thing. I've found in a Hammock even the slightest breeze, if it gets to you, can rob some serious heat.
For me, in the cold temps, I really cinch the UQ so no...
a little less weight. However as I've compared UL tarp / pad / bag combos vs. hammock rigs it all ends up about the same.
I have found, for the ground and because I'm a side sleeper, I prefer a...
looks like a good price, but might be a little hard on the back if traveling by foot!
For motorized travel that is one hell of a deal though.
really like my hammock gear burrow. The customer service was fantastic and I would buy from them again.
That said, my guess is that all of the vendors who focus hammock specific are probably...
I've been in the same boat and found that I really need one bag and one top quilt. Right now I only have the TQ and like you, when I camp with the family on colder nights the TQ represents some...
not sure about your area of the country, but here in WI if it's going to be below the temp rating on the bag I go with the warmer option despite weight (and I tend to be very weight aware).
If...
Hammock = feet higher (slightly). I don't like sliding down in my hammock and it seems to me that I don't slide as much towards the head end.
Ground = I like the feet lower. For some reason I...
Good call on the test hang.
I started with a foam pad and had similar issues. Although I made a custom pad by purchasing a bulk piece of CCf material and cutting it extra wide.
Eventually I...
Lots of good tips. I always have assessed shelter first, then sleeping gear (quilts/bags) then the actual weight of your pack.
Those are usually the big offenders.
I didn't look through all...
