My turtledog stand uses a 16' ridge pole and I'm attaching the straps at about 6" on each end. Any closer and the hammock bows too much to give you a flat lay.

 Eeek.. I had purchased some Argon from Dutch earlier when he had his sale in preparation for making a couple of quilts after the holidays.. I guess I better get on the ball and order the Down...
I've introduced my 11 y.o. son into hammock camping, and he loves it so much, he wants to go camping for his birthday. I mentioned that I was planning on going on a campout where everyone hangs and...
Same here.. Was planning on getting the materials for a January trip.. Might as well start now..
Pricing out materials, it's a little hard to justify doing a DIY compared to a spindrift on sale..
I was going with argon simply for the weight and pack-ability.. I hadn't really started comparing all of the different fabrics, so going with 1.1 might be better price wise, as well as better for...
The problem Brandon has, is that his products are so well made, that once you buy a single hammock, you won't need to replace it anytime soon.. :)
I'm working on plans right now for a combination sock and underquilt protector, but haven't gotten anything prototyped yet. I'll definitely be posting any plans I come up with.
I'm trying to work...
I would avoid placing the tarp between poles and the tarp stand support bar. If there's any wind, it will force the poles and support bar against each other, wearing away spots on the tarp.
I love the use of amsteel for the loops.. I've noticed that my snap-rings are starting to rust in a couple of places, so I may go ahead and make some replacements out of amsteel..
Oh gee.. I ran...
... and some BBQ as well.. ;)
Another field report:
Took the underquilt to Belk Scout Camp near Charlotte, NC over the weekend. First night it went down to 26, and the underquilt worked great paired with my 15 sleeping bag...
I'll be there.. this time I'll be hanging, so it's already going to be a better hang than last year!
I have a BA Air Core and yes, it does make some noise when you move around on it.
If you couple it with a BA sleeping bag with a pad pocket, the pad doesn't move under you so wouldn't make as...
I'm thinking of going with Argon on the top, and Silnylon on the bottom/ends. Right now I don't have any plans drawn up, but I'll probably make a mockup in cheap fabric to verify that it'll work...
I was actually planning on doing this very thing.. Having used it to make an underquilt for my Ridge Runner, my very first project, I didn't think the fabric was too difficult to work with at all.
I use two 15' lines attached with stingers. On each end of the tarp, I also have 3' dogbones I can move the stingers to if I need extra length on either or both ends. I find that adjusting the tarp...
Is it just me, or does it look like the head and foot spreader bars are put on the wrong ends of the hammock?
Got to try the quilt out up in the Mountains this past weekend. Spent 3 nights, temps were around 50 for the first two nights, and 60 for the last night. Sleeping with a 15* Marmot sleeping bag, I...
Nicely put. In this case, mosquito netting has a very low R value, because it doesn't do much to resist thermal conductivity. Anything that blocks wind will help raise the temp in hammock even with...
That's an interesting use of the poles for porch mode.
Looks good. How hard do you think guy lines would pull on them if you tied them to trees or something.
You can always use this method for hanging. If you hang from one tree, use a strong stick for your end pole, and tie the other end to the bottom of the second tree.

Superfly and Cloudburst have the same overall dimensions. The Superfly has the 2 extra side pulls that let you pull the corners in to make doors.

Warm up?
The only heat source in your hammock is your body. The UQ and TQ (and possibly a sock) just serve to prevent the air around you from convection (moving) and carrying the air close to...
I'm not sure why some of the photo's don't show up for me..

Winter is coming..
So with the summer heat rapidly leaving, and a trip in mid October, I’m faced with needing an underquilt. I was pretty pleased with the fit of the PLUQ I made to fit the Road...
That's for the pair..
The poles themselves weight 4.55 oz. I'm not sure what the tabs on the tarp add to the total weight, but it can't be much.
It's probably a good idea to practice this maneuver once without being rained on. I had to adjust my tarp once in a downpour and found it much more involved than I had pictured in my mind.
What's...
I can tell you from experience, that the tarp will move. When the wind blows on one side of the tarp, the poles tend to pull the other side up. Using lines for the tieouts may be better in high...
... per boy.
Thanks for all of the compliments. The greatest thing about this site is everyone sharing their ideas. With a group as diverse as this, unless people were posting videos and pictures, everyone...
The distance between from the tip of each pullout is 48". Using 3 17" poles would come to 51" which is plenty long enough. You would need to place a grommet or ring 1.5" from the pullout versus 3"...
It's under the Hammocks->Traveler section. The item is listed as a Travel Net, $65 and weighs in at 7.5 oz. Here are a couple of pictures of it:

Wow.. that was a lot simpler than I thought. I guess I had thought that each dogbone was larksheaded onto the apex buckle separately.. :o
Is it even possible to take the dogbones off the apex buckle without cutting it? Brandon's video shows how to take off the adjustable webbing buckles and put a woopie sling on, but the apex buckle...
True.. Maybe I'll call it the Bobcat. It's the smaller of the two species.. If there is interest, I'll grab some screenshots from my drawings for the plans. %90 of the effort was in determining if...
I actually based the design of my PLUQ on the photos of the Lynx on the WB website, along with careful measurements of the hammock body. I have to say that the fit is pretty spot on, though I admit...
Just a word of caution. :scared:
Do not use the pole mod on the tarp when using a TurtleDog hammock stand. I found that with sufficient winds, the fly was pinched between the pole mod and the...
Wow.. That's a pretty high angle to run the Ridge Runner at. I usually run it at about 25* or so, but that looks almost like 45*.
I'll be rockin my new aluminum pole hammock stand out at Nags Head with the Boy Scouts this weekend..

That's what those were.. I had no idea what they were for, so I used them for draw strings on the stake and pole bags I made.. :o
I'm a side/stomach sleeper, and I haven't found any issues with the RR. I usually sleep with a body pillow at home, and usually sleep in the superman position (outside knee up, inside arm under...

Is it just me, or does it look exactly like a Grand Trunk Skeeter Beater Pro?

Howdy.. Welcome from Raleigh.. ;) There's a Hot Springs hang coming up as well as a hang down in Uwhrrie .. If you ever want to carpool to a hang give me a ring..
I use a RR/SF combo and haven't found any issues. The tarp doors don't close completely as it would on a gathered end hammock because the apex buckles are about a foot past the opening. This leaves...
I guess I should post my summer camp experience here.. Spent a the second week of July at Camp Durant (Carthage, NC) with a nightly temp from 69 to 73. I'm a warm sleeper, but needed to add my PLUQ...
Be sure to weather seal the pullouts. With a ridgerunner, the corners of the hammock are very close to being under the pullouts, so if you have heavy rain you will get drips on your hammy.
