Mine's on my summer camp trunk.
Papasmurf used to have it on his web page, but I don't see it anymore. At any rate, here is a thread about how DIYing scout hammocks, and it is probably a good starting point: DIY Scout Hammock...
That's totally rad, Grizz! Really cold weather camping is definitely on my bucket list. Maybe I'll get up to Northern Tier for some OKPIK or maybe I will just try a Frozen Butt Hang...
The staffers supplied tents for us week one, but I hung on week two. That was only my second time hammock camping actually.

Indeed, I almost posted a followup suggesting that it would be worse if she slept in the hammock. I guess that's why we are here :)
Seems like the real punishment would have been to make you sleep in the bed.
If you use a lot of wraps, it works okay. I think some folks use mason line for the prussiks, and I think it grips a lot better.

Lazy Slug Tube (LST) is one example - http://wildernesslogics.com/THE-LAZY-SLUG-TUBE-Lazy-Slug.htm
I think the only reason to downsize would be weight of the rig. At your size, you could probably still be comfortable in a single layer 1.1, or even a BIAS WWM or GT nano. But if weight isn't a...
I probably shouldn't dredge up old threads, but it may put an additional perspective on this conversation:

and...
That is correct. There is less fill in the lower extremities. It is done to reduce the weight because you do not need as much insulation down there. If you keep your core warm, and you have good...
We ended up going to Wildcat Creek Campground. I'll try to put up a trip report, but it worked out fine. I hoped that he "RV unfriendly" access road would mean no RVs, but alas... Generators and...
Thanks, those sound great. I was looking at one of the ones on the USFS list, and I'll add Hemlock Falls for consideration. The description I found said to bring wet hiking shoes. Do you think...
Thanks. We like the Forest Service areas (we did Desoto Falls a couple years ago). Do you think we will have a problem with the campground being full when we get there? Are there any that we have...
Hi everyone,
The family is planning a N GA hang this weekend, and I was wondering about recommendations other than over-crowded state parks. I am looking for somewhere within 2 hours of NE...
Dutch, are you planning to get the 40* version? I am not quite ready to pull the trigger, but that is most likely going to be my next investment.
edit: oh, and are you planning to integrate some...
Another thing to consider is that some tarps have a cat-cut ridgeline, and a single ridgeline underneath can impact the pitch.
At 5'10, I can just barely get a comfortable diagonal lay in my SN, and I still have to be careful that my feet don't slip.
I hung at Woodruff Scout Reservation the first weekend of February (Button Gwinett District Klondike). 20 degress Friday night and 2" of snow on Saturday. w00t!! It was awesome, and I got to...
I got mine as well. They look great, and I can't wait to start my merit badge class.
Thanks for doing this!

Hi William,
Thanks for doing this; I have been meaning to do this in my Troop for a while now.
I have a question about the spreadsheet. I put in 100 badges, but the cost is coming out as...
Well, that does it. I tried to hold out and thought I had escaped, but you trapped me with your well-timed extension.

I manage the wait by avoiding it. I order off our wonderful For Sale forums. I can handle a day or two much better than weeks :-)
- Chad
Grizz, what kind of wristies are you wearing? I am looking for something similar.
Thanks,
Chad
I think I got the idea from Dutch himself, but I put a stitch in the loop to which my Dutch Clip is permanently attached. That keeps the clip from falling off.
I use a tarp flyz on a kleimheist. ...
I think bonepile's post explains that. There is a twisting force on the ring as well. You may well need a climbing-rated ring, although I am not sure even that is rated for that type of force.
How did I not know that little down arrow to the left of the post title jumped to the first unread?! Thanks for the tips!
I just picked one up from Two Tents. I haven't been able to camp with it, but I know I will love it. I have been using an ENO Pro Fly, which works fine. Since the tad pole is slightly wider and a...
Yeah, it is too good to pass up. I will take it.
I was trying to hold off a couple months. Wife, forgive me...
Does it have the tri-loops on the tie-outs?
I went through several really heavy summer storms with an eno pro fly covering my wbbb. The pro fly is actually narrower than the tad pole, and I stayed dry, even in a driving rain. You do have to...
I have a modification that would make it slightly more flexible.
1. Instead of tying your line to the Stingerz eye, you could put a small loop
2. Put a Dutch Hook on the end of your cord
Then...
Doors are really for the hex tarps. It's not perfect, but you can just pull in the corners and close off the ends.
I am not entirely sure what a slipped trucker's hitch is (or, rather, what part of the trucker's hitch is slippery), but it is my belief that adjustable hitches like the tautline are preferable when...
Wow, great deal! This should go fast.
There are quite a few scouters on the forums (see this thread for some). You might try searching for "boy scouts" and see what turns up.
I am a Committee Chair for a troop in the suburbs of...
+1 on the Kelty Noah's Tarp 12. You need a tarp that is at least capable of being pitched in an A-Frame. The 3x3's 9.8ft ridge when pitched like that will probably not provide sufficient coverage. ...
Is the color the same as the web page (yellow/green with polka dots)?
I will take it.
Thanks, Deadphans. I had forgotten about that video (is there anything he hasn't covered?). I think I may have had it staked out down a hill a bit, which made it a little more cumbersome.
Slept in it two nights this weekend at our Spring Camporee. I skipped the tarp, as the weather was absolutely gorgeous. I love the shelf. Stowing all the crap from my pockets has been the biggest...
Post a "I got one too" thread, that is. But I can't help it. I'm really excited about sleeping in my Blackbird 1.7SL tonight. I tried it out with my 20* incubator yesterday morning and darn near...
If you still have it, I'll take it.
The line locks don't work very well on zing-it. I found that I could just hook my prussic loops over the line locks. As long as you keep tension on the tarp, the loops will stay on and can be used...
I'll take it.
Thanks for the heads up. Wondered why I wasn't getting PM notifications.
I'll take the virga.
Getlit. That's funny.
Hi everyone, I figure I have lurked long enough; I have been reading the forums everyday for a couple months now ;-) I have definitely learned a lot from all the helpful posts, but I am just a...
Sorry, can't read. Looking for a short for my son. Disregard. :-(
