Thanks dejoha from one who doesn't have your skills at illustration.
I've been thinking in the same vein. Heading to Virginia next week to pick up G-daughter for the summer and my turtledog won't fit in the trunk. Guess I'll just have to hang down beside the creek....
Esteel. Do you think that diagonal braces, toprail to legs, might help in tightening up any looseness?
Another neat variation on the TurtleLady stand! I tried something similar for the Granddaughters but my wife refused to allow them to use them after she watched my test hang. Are the bipods angled...
Lonetracker, it seems that maybe the hammock attachments to the ridgepole may need to be experimented with. On the 2 turtlelady stands and one A-frame prototype that I've built the ridgepole flexes...
Glad to hear that you placed some limiters on the legs. On the concrete the legs might not slip, but... gravity will hurt you! Good looking stand. What is the other hammock you're using?
Hppyfngy, Those angles are exactly what I had invisioned and the way that I'll do my next. With just the squared ends at the hinge it's a chore to get every thing lined up.
Sounds good, would love to see another mod on a great design. Will be on the Lake Wales Ridge this weekend hanging out. With plans to be home by race time.
Looks like you used some of the fence rail that you mentioned. Did you use the hinges at the top? Can you get a close up of the connection? Wife commented that it looked heavy, I bet it's lighter...
Just returned from two weeks in north Georgia and Virginia and the stand worked perfectly. Easy setup and takedown. The stand recieved some varied weight testing as it was in the living room on...
Other than when I'm working on my hammock on the stand and it's unloaded have I had any problem with it moving. If I'm in it, 220 lbs, it's not going anywhere. It is at a wider stance at 48" than...
The webbing, maybe 1 1/2" wide, attached 6" down from top and 12" to 16" up from bottom on each leg? Would need to be screwed to the legs to secure the webbing in place. Flashbang had his legs spaced...
My mental image may be different than yours but sounds interesting. Are you thinking an upper and lower fabric piece on each tripod? That should reduce the weight and hardware and make it almost a...
Picked up 6 of the black rubber tips might mark the floor but they will look better on the blue stain.:D
I like that rubber tip better than the ones I was looking at. Also adding the pics here we were talking about. They show both ends of the folded tripod.
HF, that's just what I imagined and the way my next will be and as you said the spread limiters shouldn't be needed( that's what I thought about the knot in the muletape I was using to try out the G...
flashbang, As hppyfngy stated the attachment line between the hinge and rail needs to be vertical any lateral deflection will pull or push the tripods. I do this all the time while working on my...
14'6"x 4'6"
No idea, but I have seen painters taking a break and leaning on them.:)
While trolling the bid box hardware stores getting material for my stand I ran across poles similar to these and thought they would make good collaspsible poles. Even thought about someway to screw...
Mostly esthetics but there is a little fiddle factor getting the ends aligned above the hinge. Primarily this is with the 2 side legs which pivot separately on the 1 side of the hinge. The end leg...
-The length outside leg to leg is 176" might be tight in a dorm. The side legs on my stand are not fixed and can be adjusted from a max spread of 57" to whatever less you may be comfortable with....
Thanks for all the comments everyone. I've already seen 1 modification I'll make on the next one. That is to extend the legs above the hinge enough and angle them to where when they are opened they...
Picked up the hinges at HD, they are listed as 6" 'decorative tee hinges'
None so far but I only...
I've been a full timer now for a few months and over the Labor Day weekend slept in a hotel bed. Not a good weekend for me or my wife. We have two granddaughters, one in VA, one in GA so Turtlelady's...
Good luck on the business adventure. Awaiting the pics, I'm planning a Turtlelady's soon.
QChan, one of these stand is in my near future now that I'm fulltiming. When you mentioned the stand sliding around it left me wondering if you had any caps on the ends of the legs. The dowels look...
