need to have a vehicle sticker and then you need a backcountry permit which is $12 per site for total of 4 people. unless you go stealth but then you risk fines.
they did not have the correct forms...
all in all pinckney isn't that bad of a place to go. the hike in was pretty easy, took about 3 hrs on the way in not to break a sweat but i did it 1.5hrs on the way out with a good sweat. you can...
probably look at doing MRT, maybe walk in at jordyn river, maybe go up to taquamenum and do some car camping and then do the 6 mile shoe trip over to the brewery, have some drinks and then get a ride...
not a bad trip. got to try out the TQ, dialed in the UQ a little more. tried out the new pulk and the new winter dream DIY. ground was frozen which didn't allow the use of spikes and probably the...
yeah...two of the people going can't take vacation. the walk in would put them in the dark. i just hosed up my tarp last night by sewing the wrong side up and one side down which i can't believe i'm...
i belive this is what we're doing. probably get there about 11:30am
i just chatted with the ranger girl at Pinckney, the only place that is open during the winter is blind lake and you have to park at silver lake main parking lot. i asked if we could park on the side...
well, i just had another buddy put the clause in and another is out due to work so that's basically me + 1.5 but as the weekend nears i'm guessing it's just me.
Paul - when you did that shake out...
alright, lets solidify plans wednesday night.
stone - how much snow is on the ground in that area?
Paul - how's it look for you, are you going to make it? I've got one guy that might have to bail due to having to work the weekend and another...
i'm thinking i'm going to need a sled,...pack will be too heavy for me and the snowshoes.
i've been chatting with the ranger station trying to sweet talk them into just a simple pass into the trail head and back out at seaton creek, almost there.
my group is thinking about a car camp...
Sweet - thanks wildcrafter, just recommend which area would be best to get at least a 4x4 vehicle in possible a car for those that want to attend but don't have a 4x4
i called the ranger station this morning. they have a foot of snow on the ground. red bridge parking lot is normally plowed/kept up. the road into seaton creek is maintained, however unless a local...
Hanson - yeah we're still going. haven't figured out just yet were we're parking on friday night.
right now i have a group of 5 + whomever from this forum. i'm leaving around 10:30 friday morning...
weather.com has it in the high teens and if it trends like the 10day it should be in the 20's, are you thinking about backing out? would you prefer to do something local like waterloo or pinkney just...
if there is snow on the road going in to slagle we can move it,...maybe start at seaton but the last time i was up there this year in Feb. a local guy was plowing it.
arent you retired?
i second this. it's really hard to predict the weather for michigan, especially as it gets close to the middle of winter. the road back to Slagle is a 2track for some and on the side of a hill with a...
i had a post back in october about doing the MRT over halloween but that fell through so i'm thinking about doing the same trip. i'll probably take a half day and leave around 11am, get up there...
I'm going to either Manistee River Trail or Hoist Lake that weekend. Haven't made up my mind. If someone wants to join good deal.
