Excellent, thank you very much!!!
I am driving from California to Texas, and I want to camp out along the way. So I was reaching out to the HF's to see if anybody knows a good spot in New Mexico along interstate 40 (or a small number...

I just ordered a copy. Once I found out my brother, cogneato, had won a copy in a drawing at the texas fall hang, I had to order a copy for myself. (shugs review, and discount code also helped me...
where is the like button when I need one
Do you have a gear report on these?
I think that is just about what I ended up with. Height plus 4 feet and some seam allowance. I have spent a couple of nights in the Dream Sail, and I like to have my feet a couple of inches (if not...
What did you do, kidnap my sons dog??:lol:
Looks just like his.[/QUOTE]
Thats my dog Lula Bell. She is a crazy smart golden retriever. She can turn the lights off when I say, "get the lights"....
So here are my final specs until my next mod on her.
Name: The Dream Sail 3000
Material: 1.5 oz ripstop 2nds. (DIY gear supply)
Weight: 15.7 oz. With dynaglide whoopies, and tree straps,...
Wow gargoyle check this out. I used the sheet bend to dial in the right length. Gave my self some seam allowance, and sewed a new channel / rolled hem. whipped the ends hung it up and measured. Now I...
I will keep yall posted. Can't wait to get her dialed in. I have to think of a name.
Thanks chickenwing, I followed the lines on the ripstop. The stitches are only one square apart. Makes for...
I do like the comfort of the extra length. I slept great last night. It just seems like a bit much.
Thats one of the reasons I made it too long. Just to know I can always shorten it. I will bet...
I will try that. Thats a great idea. I figured there might be a simple math formula out there, like a percentage above ones height type of thing. Here are some pics of what I have so far. I slept...
I made my first DIY hammock out of 1.5oz ripstop. I love the material. However, it seems a bit too long. The total length is 125" with it all whipped on the ends. I am between 5' 5" and 5' 7". I...
Same here. I logged in and saw that the round table, and clothing section...etc.. were gone. My first thought was, wow, has it been a year. I quickly found the donate button at the top and fixed it...
Just wanted the attention of all those out there that have not seen the extra's you get with your donation.
I just renewed mine after a year. It would not be the same HF without the extra threads...
I have tried various suspension set ups. I find that whoopie slings, and toggles are the way to go. Its a very reliable way to hang. Not too much extra stuff to carry either.
I think it's actually called the bank robbers knot. One of my favorite for a very quick release. Google that one BEAS, I think you will find it usefull.
Taught line hitch
Marlin spike hitch
Truckers hitch
Clove hitch
The tie your horse to the post bank robber knot (not sure of the name)
Prussik and kliemheist
These are the knots I use in...
I have a thermarest inflatable pad that I used before I got an UQ. It does seem to be surprisingly warm. I am pretty sure that its warmer than CCF pad. I don't use it any more. If my feet get cold,...
How much money for all the materials?
A tyvek ground sheet has a lot of uses. Another option would be a light weight gear hammock. It can also be a jerry chair when the weather is good.
:lol:Was that a dog, or an ultralight packhorse.
Nice video. looked like a swell time.
Take a week long trip. About 5-7 nights and you should be able to sleep like a baby by the end of the trip. A bottle of red wine helps pretty well too.
Do a week long trip. By the end you should be sleeping like a baby.
Check out ramblinrev's videos. Get your lady to show you a few tricks. Take your time, and don't rush. Once you get going you will get the bug, and the gear will start appearing out of knowhere....
I got it, its insanely huge. It is quite like a thin denim material, but seems really strong. It has been stored for a really long time, and it kind of smells like an old warehouse. I will cut a few...
I just ordered up 4 yards of 1.5oz ripstop in grey. I also got me some guttermanns thread on the way. I will be making a simple gathered end hammock. I want something comfortable like my WBBB 1.1...
My dad is sending me a twill parachute. Anybody out there have any Ideas about what I could make? Im thinking a parachute hammock. Not sure what to expect with it though. I hope I am not tempted to...
Great choice in color. I like the emerald / turtle green. Also like the non cat cut bottoms. it looks like a solid wind breaker, and I bet the rain is going to sound nice and pattery. Nothing like...
This is a google docs spreadsheet I started for people to add places to hang in southern california. There are lots of places just outside LA. If you want to see some really cool stuff check out...
I will take you up on that, I am sure I will be up there again soon.
Went to the Kern river for my birthday weekend. I met up with a bunch of ground dwellers and had to show them what's up. So even though there was only one hangable tree in the two reserved campsites,...
If you know there is going to be freezing rain or snow, it's always a good idea to run your ridgeline under your tarp to help it carry the weight. No worries the rain sounds nice from under the tarp...
I have a dirt bike, and lots of forest in my back yard. I think I might try an off road ride and hang. I am looking and saving for a street legal bike to save gas getting to work, and for trips like...
I made a few beer cozy's out of some scrap reflectix. Whoopie sling dog leash from scrap amsteel - whoopie key chain from scrap dynaglide - You can always make another stuff sack - OH!! DIY Black...
I like that idea too. I think I will make one with a tree strap pocket, and a thicker tough pocket for my stakes. I like keeping it all together, but I don't want my stakes in the same sack as my...
Good question. Thanks for asking. And as always thanks for the very informative answer Rev.
That is sweet. Looks like something you would see on Chewbacca's home planet.
Sweet, I like all the pics. I almost feel like I am cooling off just looking at them. Hippofeet's idea, that is the closest to what I was imagining. Add a few drops of Dr. Bronners, and you done...
The poor people in Texas with all the heat got me thinking of what I would do on a Hot day, when I had the day to lay around in a hammock. I thought, I would set up my hammock, and a sprinkler right...
Why yes sonic I do

No reason not to use locked brummels, it's like anything else, it's difficult until it's easy. Once you do a few it's easier than stitching the bury. Amsteel is rated at 1600lbs if I'm not mistaken....
Whats up, and welcome from the angeles national forest.
Good to see another Cali Hanger.
Nice, clean lines, looks sweet. I have been wanting to make one, about 11' by 8' or so.
Did you fold 1" grosgrain around a rolled hem, or did you just fold over cut edge and inject the thread?
I have an app for my phone that is a bubble level. I can hold it to my suspension and get a perfect 30*. I like the finger pistol trick, I will have to test it's accuracy next time I hang.
I have a black mamba TQ and a Yeti UQ. Before that I tried various things, pads, over cover, Emergency blankets, etc... There is absolutely no comparison. My TQ and UQ are the best pieces of hammock...
If there were two cars on the trip, I would try to hang from them.
I tend to check out sites online, just to know that there will be at least a tree. I have not ran into that problem, but I have...
awesome man,
congrats.
I like the camo.
I guess she is my first cousin once removed. Excellent work Cuzz
I have 50ft on the way, code is working. Thanx for the good deal!!
