I am partway through making my first Pollux quilt. This is fun!
Rhode Island doesn't have Costco, but I was able to get a Costco throw from my dear sister. I know that isn't really enough for cold...
I went to a local WalMart a week ago, and their Mountain House meals were only the 1-serving size for $4.something -- but Amazon sells the 3-serving packets for like $8 (which is a better deal).

You paid over a hundred quid and got a hammock that's ten percent shorter than offered? I would call my credit card company and take it up with them: you didn't receive what you were promised.
A 6"x6" is probably overkill. I stood up a 4"x6" in concrete (24" to maybe 30" deep) a couple of summers ago here in northern Rhode island, and it gets used regularly by my kids. (I, sadly, slave...
I love that story!
Thanks to all the informatuon in this thread! I soaked a batch of my sons' clothes and their bug nets last night, the first time I have used Permethrin. They head off to Scout camp tomorrow,...
But where do you put your gear? If the thing is only big ugh for the camper (and not even really that), where does your pack hang? Out in the rain? And your shoes? And....?
My kids -- who love their own hammocks -- have given these to friends as birthday gifts. If the recipient likes it, they can get a better one when this ones wears out; if they don't, then no harm...
(Holy cats, why is that picture upside down? I don't *remember* hanging that way...)
My sons' Boy Scout troop did their annual weekend of service work at Camp Yawgoog, and at lunch I practically fell into my hammock!

Oh, how he wished he had brought his hammock! I offered...
More so on one side than the other...so if I follow you, and looking at pictures of real Reflectix, then this stuff probably isn't the same in terms of its heat-reflecting properties.
Then again,...
So how did it go?
I have a bunch of 2'x2' electro-static discharge mats that I got for working on big computers. They are basically bubble-wrap with a light metallic facing -- almost like mylar window films -- plus a...
Where did you get that material, anyway?
Hah! That's awesome: I know I would be delighted to have a matching one and hang out next to my youngest. :7)
Which one lets the breeze through best without admitting bugs?
I use a few feet of 24 gauge craft wire, bent in half in the middle. *shrug* Works for me.
Do they require a special installer tool if you are only doing a few?
I just posted a review of a Hammeck Breezy in the Reviews forum so I won't duplicate it here.
The short version is, I love it so much that I drilled holes in my basement joists so I don't have to...
People, listen to me: it's time for you to get a new hammock.
If you don't already own a hammock, skip the $20 wonder on woot.com and go straight to a real hammock, from Hammeck; if you already...
At these ridiculous dimensions, would you cut it in half so that you had two pieces 59"x108", and then sew those together along a long edge?
Would 1" webbing be more resistant to abrasion than 7/64" Amsteel?
(Duh, obviously!) I mean, would it also be vulnerable to that same abuse?

So the PVC would act as a sleeve? Very smart. Careful of any sharp edges on it cutting the Amsteel, though, I would think.
I was wondering if the wood's edges would cut the Amsteel -- never...
Did you bartack the loops? What did you use, just a regular sewing machine?
They look great -- but if they hold your weight, it doesn't matter *what* they look like! :7)
I must admit that another search (after I posted, natch) comes up with this very informative thread -- including pictures!

Has anyone ever mounted an ENO Indoor Hanging Kit from their basement joists (overhead) in order to enjoy hammocking through the winter?
...
Instead of a dedicated PIF/Swap forum, it seems more logical to keep those posts in the relevant forum -- e.g., Whoopie sling offers in the Suspensions forum, Top Quilts with those posts -- since...
How is it for warm weather lounging -- too hot? Or do you only use it for sleeping?
(If the drawing is done, should the thread be locked so no one else tries to sign up?)
I use a long piece of fine wire (22ga? 24ga?), doubled over, as my fid for workign with 7/64" Amsteel. *shrug* It requires me to thin out the end of the rope before I fold the "fid" over it and pull...
This summer I put in a 4"x6", set into cement, and it's solid. (I put the 4" face of the wood facing the hammock, so the pull is through its long axis.)
You now, just another option. :7)
How much do you want? I scored a roll that is I think 48" wide, and could spare some in order to earn some karma. :7) Send me a PM with your requirements and address and I expect we can find a...
You're a good brother!!
"Enter Me in the Giveaway," please and thank you!
I am a tall man with a short hammock, and would happily PIF (to someone I have in mind already) if I won your hammock giveaway. :7)
I had the flu a year ago May, and spent a couple of days outside in my ENO DoubleNest. I also used the stuff sack this way, and bundled myself up inside it to trap the heat. It was about 70F and I...
Does this fee apply to items sent as a gift?
Thanks again, M.M.Mike.
Would doubling up the straps reduce the stretch, since the load would be cut in half? (At this point, I am more curious than serious, but you never know…)
- Will
Thanks for the advice! Hmm, lemme grab a lighter and go outside… Dang! It melted right away and eventually offered a little flame. Probably nylon, so not good as tree-straps.
So, uh...just how...
So I am dense: what would burning it tell me aside from the scent difference mentioned here?

Could those rock-climbing bolt hangers be used to suspend a hammock from the joists in A Guy's basement, do you think?
Today I came into a big roll of 3" webbing. Is there any good way to figure out whether it's nylon or polyester, besides cutting off a hunk, knotting the ends, and pulling to see whether it...
You can always save it for use as a sunshade, but get a "real" (i.e., bigger) tarp for rain.
That is a really nice item -- and especially nice because you built it yourself.
Do many DIY'ers produce a second, identical item to have on hand in case their first one is damaged? Or do you...
I just sent in an inquiry to Rhode Island to see whether they have made a coherent policy. Stay tuned!
I am interested in what you find, Theguywiththeeyebrows.
That would make an awesome winter chair: cozy, capturing your heat inside the hammock shape, and soft because of the fleece.
Thanks for gathering all those links, Gravity!
And it would always have a nice, hay/horsey scent so you should fall asleep with a smile!
Most impressive!
