I can't get on to the main page with Chrome or Internet Explorer, using the link in Paul's sig, and his FB page.
Anybody else having trouble getting onto the site?
I splice the braided mason line all the time to make prototypes and check lengths and such things. I use a curved upholstery needle that i straightened out and rounded the point a little bit on and...

Gross income is what's in your paycheck when they give it to you where you work... net income is what your significant other says you're allowed to spend on "all that hammock stuff"
PM sent to shug.
R-13 rated btw
I'm installing 3.5 inch thick fiberglass insulation upstairs and I'm going to have a bunch left over. Thinking of using it to make a uq. Has anyone else tried it?
6'3" 365-375 and i have hung from DIY 7/64 whoopies, with little/no signs of strain
I like it... looks like my next fiddlin' will be to make me some webwhoops
hey, that's exactly what i've got too... "borrowing" it from grandma because the motor in mom's crapped out. i'm thinking i may end up with a sewing machine for christmas, but i love this one
So, i started putting it together, and it was pretty much immediately apparent how true odds' observation was... chalk this one up to seemed like a good idea at the time
sorry... to clarify
I'm talking about a gathered end hammock, like a WBBB, but I'd add a triangle to each side, instead of only one.
It's really nothing more than a feasablity study at the...
I'm hoping someone will save me some time from trying an idea that won't work... I'm pondering a double footbox (one on both sides of the foot end)... or maybe a quadruple footbox kind of like a...
I had the same problem with one of my DLs. The issue wasn't the sewing, it was the whipping and larks head i used to attach the whoopie... straightened that out, and the problem went away.
The Walmart in Harrisburg pa has about 15 yards of pink digital camouflage non ripstop nylon or polyester. $1.50 per yard.
Just a heads up for anybody else local.
this is a much better description than what i just gave...

i believe, but i'm not a knot guy, that technically an auto-block requires a carabiner, while the klemheist (or kleimheist) is tied only with a loop of line. The klemheist is directional, and must be...

when i did my double layers, i sew three sides, then all but the last inch or two of the last side, then flip inside out (or outside out I guess), then just fold over and close off the last bit of...
Someone will probably correct me with why it's a dangerously bad idea, but for my latest set of whoopies (7/64") I made about a two inch fixed eye with a locked brummel, and let the spliced portion...
Maybe a couple grip clips? or sew on some tabs? with grip clips you could move them around to find the spot that works best, then maybe affix something more permanent.
Welcome Joe, i'm in Harrisburg as well... right out by Wal-mart on 322
Welcome from Harrisburg... And a cabin just outside RB Winter... beautiful area you're in there.
i used this for my first hammock... i think... A single layer of it holds me, and I'm 6'3" 360
Oh yeah, and today's the last day for it... :o)
I've got no affiiliation with them other than noticing they've got cheap big wide rolls of mosquito netting at times, but I'm on the mailing list, and thought i'd share this with anybody who's...
Actually, the math comes to 3.8 square feet per pound (69ft^2/18 lb), or .26 pounds per square foot (18 lb/69ft^2)
For those used to dealing with roll goods, that's 62.95 oz/yd if you could get it...
For a summer TQ, this works pretty well. It's got a zipper that only goes down about halfway, so you're left with a nice footbox area, but the bottom also has a zipper that opens it up and vents...
Let Darts = Chicken and Hem= Egg
Which comes first?
As long as you properly reserved the room on the company calendar, I don't see why there should be any issue.
I'd think the girth hitch might actually be the fastest way to get it done. reach round the tree with the loop, pass the rolled up assembly through the loop, walk to other tree, wrap around tree,...
Re-reading previous, if the girth hitch with the 6" eye is cheating, make it like the other end. but that's another toggle, and additional line, and more weight, so for you gram weenies out there,...

I tried whipping in just about every way I could find when i did my first DIY, but in the end, nothing I did was as comfortable as when I got frustrated and sewed in the end channel. Now, i just put...
So far, there's been nothing he can't destroy. We'll see how long the amsteel makes it. http://www.hammockforums.net/gallery/showimage.php?i=8352&c=14...
So, the dog just broke his tie out that was 1/16" wire rope... And I just got 100' of 7/64ths Amsteel. Sounds like the perfect opportunity to test its abrasion resistance.
www.seattlefabrics.com has thinsulate for a pretty good price. I'm thinking about going with the 210 gram version ($9.50/yd 60" wide) of that. Any opinions on thinsulate for insulation in UQs?
That's basically the idea behind this, but I want to make it as flexible as possible, so I'm leaving all the layers removable. That is, when it's summer time, and i don't need much, i can just take...
If i can get away with thinner, i'm all for it. I'm a pretty warm sleeper, so what's good for most will likely be good for me as well.
Maybe I'll just make all three lengths about an inch thick.
Thickness- just kind of what i picked. My thinking is this combination will let me get the most "bang for my buck" and put the most insulation in the best location relative to my core.
Length-...
I'm in the planning stages for my first UQ. (Made my first hammock and tarp for a trip this summer and was still a little chilly at night when it got down to about 65 by the river.) I want to do...
Angrysparrow, you were dead on right. I got way too much stretch from the nylon webbing, and when i replaced it with the tubular webbing i had, that slid right thought the cam buckle and sat me back...
I was thinking of going long to try to get myself a flatter lay. I'm 6'4" about 330, so there's more of me to fill up that space in the middle. I guess i'll have to do some more experimenting to see...
I'm in the process of making my first hammock setup, and tonight I'm planning on working on the tarp. I got some coated nylon from Walmart, but I pulled it from the remnant bin and am stuck with two...
