Im sure this has been covered before, but my mind is wandering tonight. Why dont folks that tent camp with cots require underquilts?... Im sure some use pads, but prior to my hammock camping days, I...
Maybe I missed something, I scanned most of the thread but what keeps your trap from getting pulled left and right from the hammock swaying? I love this idea, but I cant see how once your tarp is...
Count me in as well...
Lol you should see my kitchen... I too have a small 2 bedroom apt, half the kitchen is a shop, complete with a 6 foot tall tool chest, work bench, shop lights and a vice.. We just recently found a 3...
Im confused, are you planning on joining the two fence posts together to make one long post to hang from? or they be used as the vertical supports.. If your planning on joining them to achieve a 20ft...
Tell the wife, listen, some of this gear is temp sensitive so I decided to store it in the kitchen, and move all your pots and pans to the garage and attic...
I rent, every room in the apt has a way to hang a hammock.. Never had and issue. Find a stud stick a eye bolt in it and relax. Walls take a lot of force to pull over..
I must disagree with this post.. I have 2 ENO tarps, and use zing it on both, never had and issue with slippage.. In fact I just bought a superfly, and I was tempted to used the Zing it ties outs off...
Im down with the group hang any info and when and were?
Wow another member from Rochester NY.... If you end up near the high falls area anytime in the next two weeks, and hear a jackhammer its me hating life... Anyhoo back to your question, I would think...
Rolling it up with your sleeping bag, either inside or out. I guess your right on the outside would be better as you don't have to unpack your hole set up to get to the first step of your set up. I...
Im sitting here staring at my pile of gear, and an idea popped into my head.. Has anyone ever rolled there hammock up in their sleeping bag to save space in your pack? I can't be the first person to...
Good point lol... probably one of the many reasons I have yet to try this, knowing my luck someone in my camping party would for get and crap all over our stuff...
I hide my stuff in the woods. I always carry a black trash bag, load anything that I don't want stolen that I'm not taking with me and hide it. Or Ill hang stuff up in the trees depending on the time...
How this for worse, The misses cant sleep in hammock, sooo I have to continue to purchase tent stuff so she can come with me... And of course she dose not understand the term ultra light.. When we go...
lol, if the misses had any clue how much I had wrapped up in hammocking she would probably leave me. There is no way I'm going to document the dollar amounts on a public form. And if by chance she...
I build a huge deer stand last year, and the wind started to tip it over. I used amsteel (3/8) with a come a long to straighten it out. To keep this from happening again Im using whoopee slings (...
I have had mine on since I made them. Held me and the misses just fine, even during...... Well lets just say they held up to a non scientific dynamic load test lol
I wish I had the means to test this, about the only thing I could think of would be make a dog bone, with this at one end and pull it with my truck until it snaps lol Not to scientific but, if the...
Microwave your straps.. The sap should loosen up and melt right? Id recommend removing all the metal hardware prior to trying this..
I see your point. I also notice your from rochester
NY aswell. Small world..
Lol after all I said and done, Did I re-invent the wheel? or just ad one more step to making more complicated locked Brummel?
No clear as day. Thank you... That's the missing link to my equation..
Isnt that what I Did? Forgive me but im not following. In my second set of pics I did indeed make a lock Brummel type lock then buried it.
That would be to easy... yes I realize im trying to re-invent the wheel, But sometimes you have to start over to move forward.. Take the UCR for example, one of the down sides is, you have...
I may have solved the week spot folks.... Before you make the final bury, instead come out one side, then cross back in for the final bury, similar to the locked brumel..
...
I use whoopies with only 6 inches of bury lol never had and issue...
But yes, I understand what your saying.
Ill try to break this thing, see what I can do.. lol
Maybe ill finally be famous lol.... I see how this looks like a weak spot, however wont it only be a weak spot I the last bury fails? and in order for that to fail, the first bury what have to fail...
Ahhh so the outter line breaks ( or is weakened) by the inner line if its a dramatic change in diameter, so a taper relieves this....
Hmmmmm.. I did not know this.. thank you... I always use a taper when working with zing it, you almost have to in order to splice it, I will take this apart and put a taper in it...
Hmmmm now you got my thinking.... However Before I attached to my hammock I hung from it, used a biner and a continuous loop to a tree branch it held me bouncing around...
Care to explain this more? I thought the taper was just to make it easier to bury, I had no idea it was "structural" if you will...
I think it needs some tinkering yet, but I wanted to share this, perhaps see if someone else can improve on it, or test it out.. Who knows..
Im trying to find a way to make a fixed eye with amesteel that dose not require the burry to waste 4 inches of line per whoopie, or UCR.. If this works, you should be able to start your burry for the...
I would think any movement in hammock would also move the tarp, thus putting more or less tension on your tarp lines.. I'm not and educated man, and physics failed me in high school, but I believe...
I just built some UCRS, I really don't see the big fuss over making sure there milked right to hold a load... I just found out that I used them Upside down too. Aparently this is even worse as...
Thanks for the link.. I spent a good portion of my day trying to track that down.. All and all the UCR seems to be a step up from the whoopies (IMO). I came up with my own "stopper" knot as I could...
 I woke up today and decided the same thing.... Time to tinker with my set up, I made my self two UCRS... Have not tried them yet, but found it odd a fellow member was thinking along the same...
Im going to try this idea on a smaller scale.. I was tinkering around with my tarp set up, and I could see the use for something like this on the ridge line.. Ill get some pics up if its...
If you made the netting slightly longer (increesed bulk I know) you would have a range of options for the pitch of the tarp. But as you pointed out the wind... Hmmm... Rocks or sticks to weigh it...
I have a few good Ideas just need to test them out yet.. The whoopie sling is about as best as you can get as far as bulk goes. However I think the tree strap can be revisted and possible eliminate...
Has anyone attached a bug net to a tarp? One thing that "bugs" me about bug nets is your gear is stored out of them. What if you sewed a bug net around the edges of your tarp. Left them long so when...
Thanks, still working some kinks out. I would like to find an alternative to the arrow shaft. Seems to me it could be small in diameter and still do the same thing.. I have some Galvized nails I was...

As sugested, heres one made up with the toggle and buckle tied to each other.
http://img824.imageshack.us/img824/5830/toggle5.jpg
Im gonna make some today, Ill find away to make them "unloseable" lol...
Just watched a vid of this, never seen it before. Looks like the ET is harder to adjust.. I have never used one so I cant say for sure. This buckle system I made is extremely easy to move. Instead of...
Im using this in junction with woopie slings at the moment... Instead of having fiddle with a MSH every time I move, im just going to leave this on my tree strap and adjust as need..... Im still...
I got a few Ideers..:)
Anything will work. I went with aluminum for the wieght savings.. Like I said I dont know how strong this is, or whats its failure rating is.. Im just a guy with some tools who likes to think outside...
