My first attempt was with a sheet and tie downs. The whipping held just fine with parachord but...the 250 thread count COTTON sheet gave up the ghost just after the attached picture was snapped. ...
The first time I hung in my wife's WBBB I was pleasantly surprised how much more support I felt in my lower back; very comfortable. I'm not sure of the fabric that Brandon uses but it feels very...
Badchef,
That is a perfect example of how these type of situations should be handled, and why I was drawn to HF - good, wholesome people. I have a feeling the "karma" effect will soon follow.
Sounds like a pretty bad infection to me:) I've heard it never goes away...
This is how I started out, just a simple fig 8. I later had to convince my bride to grant me the use of her injector to sew the loops:)
Looks good to me. Now...take it down, move to another good hanging spot, rig it up and make it comfortable. Repeat x a few hundred and watch Shug's series again. Your hang will begin to manifest...
Cost per week in diapers $80,
18 plus years of shoes $1300,
Cleaning the quilt after drooling a Nalgene full $45,
There are some things money CAN buy...for everything else there's a hammock....
First thing I thought too:)
The WBBB 1.7 DL was my wife's birthday present. She had her first hang at the river yesterday and totally loved it. We're gonna do an overnight in 2 weeks. Can't wait!
With suspension...the simpler the better? Are whoopies simple enough? Any thoughts if we should stick with one type over the other? These men and women have enough to worry about in defending our...
Always helps to have videos for us kinesthetic learners so we can copy what we see. Thanks for sharing.
Really good looking quilt there!!! I've been reading much about the M50, sounds like nice stuff.
Wow, thats some good work. Makes me want to try one again.
Any way of making a time machine so I can take this info back about 3 weeks ago? Thanks for sharing.
Any suggestion on how to hang with a Newfoundland? Or should I just get a seperate hammock?
Last July when I was just getting started in the whole hammock thing, and it was 120*, I felt much better in the hammock outside than in the 76* in the house.
I'm not sure this adds anything to...
+1 on the pad...warmth, water, food as a baseline. Shug's videos should about cover everything else you need. Good luck and have fun:)
Just tried it...no workie-workie. I like the logic however:)
Thats pretty neat. Looks like another prototype project for next week. Thanks for sharing.
I hope Desmond is there for their sake, and Jack too.
Good point, obviously:)
A few of my tent friends asked " how on earth are you supposed to use a hammock in the High Sierra when you're above the tree line?" Easy...climbing cams and a few good...
I colored a little black dot on the head end of both hammocks and remember the teenagers worst nightmare...blackhead.
I use the fishermans as other do. Most of the loops I make are from ZingIt and are continuous loops. I believe Opie has a tutorial somewhere around here. I'll look for it and re-post if I find it....
I have to admit I'm totally lost in this one guys. I'll assume that the Bear and the Les have some kind of TV show and that its probably on cable/dish? Both of which we do NOT have in my house...
I'm 6', 220lbs (mostly in the gut) and recently purchased the Hammock Bliss No-See-Um-No-More for $65. It has an integrated bug net and, as other have mentioned, I swapped the rope for whoopies. ...
The only hangers that I have seen on the trail were my two friends and I. We've been to the Tehachapi mountains, along portions of the PCT, and all over Sequioa Park - still just us three and our...
I totally have to do this for a project this weekend!!! I did something similar with my first DIY tarp, but this method looks much better. Well done.
I'd be up for that.
Scott, a very big thank you!!! I know we all appreciate the service and friendliness from Redden. Just put in another order today:)
Another subscriber. This screams engineer...Tommy likey.
Looks like I'll be re-sewing my straps tonight. Excellent info here!
Good info here. It never occured to me that I might encounter the "magic widowmaker." Glad that you were at a safe distance when this happened.
4 tacks about 1/8" apart. Holds me and the kids.
Haha, I had a feeling that might happen:)
Kirkman, thanks for the links to the MSDS. How foolish of me not to do so.
Bluejeans, and others, make an extremely valid point. Risk vs Benefit.

There was a random guy I spoke with at the gas station the other day. He saw my pack in the back of my truck so we started talking hiking. He asked how i got my tent into such a small pack (haha,...
Lots of good info here.
As an ex Cal-OSHA guy I just wanted to add a little to some of the concerns that have been voiced.
The MSDS for Sawyer Permethrin indicates a dermal LD50 (rat) of...
Perfectly perfect!
+1
And JustJeff for starting the addiction of DIY.
And Shug for...well...being freakin' awesome. (Did I just say awesome?)
HammockGear.com for keeping me warm on top,
And JacksRBetter for...
Periwinkle! The Mrs. wants me to make her one in Periwinkle. Stay tuned...
Do we get a link to directions if we want to tackle a project like this ourselves? Just curious...after making my first quilt, i need another project.
That is some mighty fine work there. Very...
Exactly.
When I started to play with ZingIt it was very difficult to work with. What worked for me was to take the core out of a used bic ink pen (the plastic tube that holds the ink). Clean it...
After reading this on jacksrbetter.com I was finally able to get my Mt. Washington 3 just perfect and, along with the other topics of wisdom, haven't had a cold night the entire winter.
Good stuff...
I started out with a DIY hammock with ripstop nylon from the local fabric store. If you're good with the machine perhaps you could find a deal/discount/clearance/coupon at your local fabric store. ...
Funny!
We have a 65" wide hammock that my two kids and I do just fine in. (Until the night time wiggles come to play.)
That sure does look like a fine piece of art.
Thanks Bruciehi5. I'm gonna enjoy it again this weekend:D
When I go solo, especially in the Sierras, I leave a detailed itinerary with my Wife, my Dad, and one of my friends. This seems to be what a lot of people do.
Sometimes my wife tells me to leave...
That's what I had to do. When my wife said she felt "nice and cozy," that's when I knew it was right. Perhaps try to find somebody who's a cold sleeper to help with the adjustments; if they are...
Very good info here. (Sorry for not checking back for so long. Very bad manners on my part.)
I went on an overnight to test some new gear with a friend in December in the snow. I had the Mt. WA...
That sounds wonderful. I'm glad you enjoyed it - the hanging flood gates have just opened.
