Would like to buy a uq that would work with a bridge hammock. Hudson River or other.
Sounds great....count me in. Memories from Feb 2011. 0 F and 40 mph winds.
Will a netted hammock be necessary at Grayson Highlands hang? Probably will need a hammock and tarp if anyone has an extra? Will bring two people with me but I only have two setups.
Couldn't agree more! Purchased one right off the Tree to Tree Trail Gear Site in December. Very impressed with quality and versatility of the pod. It eliminates drafts very well. Works well to...
In in too! Thank you very much!
Looking for a medium size pack with a medium size hipbelt (30 - 36)
Thanks MM! I'll check out the mesh laundry bag next time I go to WM.
Thanks for the comments about "down" in general. I usually hang my smaller HG Phoenix in closet for same reasons mentioned. It is just harder to find space to hang the PeaPod due to its size.
Recently got a 20*F PeaPod. Curious how pod owners store theirs. In plastic comforter bag (one it came with)? Other type of storage sack? Hang loose?
Fires are great! Adds something special to the trip. Even had one last week on a solo trip. Collecting wood and tending the fire gave me something to do. Actually like the smell of the fire. ...

Great resource for valuable information and promoting outdoors!
I'm in. Thanks!
Bob's Dairyland was a highlight for me last year. Always enjoy the people of RM and good food at Bob's.
I'm in. Thanks!
Great UQ. Used at Roan High Knob in 2011 with two ccf pads down to around 0*F. Had two 30*F layered on top. Mostly warm all night. I tend to be a warm sleeper.
Has anyone ever layered an IX underquilt between the hammock and a down underquilt? Any condensation problems? Any other observations or thoughts?
Very generous! Thank you. PM sent.
Is tomorrow OK? Is the discount good for 8 ft length? $16.25 shipped?
Thanks you.
Had thought about bringing bread, but noticed that someone has already committed to bringing bread. If there is another need, just let me know.
Will check tomorrow to make sure I can get one of these at local grocery.
Had planned to arrive on fri evening and bring cinnamon rolls for sat morning. I will now arrive sometime around noon on sat.
I removed the cinnamon rolls from list and put back "something...
I made it down to 1.6 F at the Higher and Colder Hang at approx 6200 ft elev. in Feb 2011.
I used a 3S Phoenix with 900 down layered with two ccf pads. On top I used two Coleman synthetic 30 F...
Received my PIF today - thanks a bunch, JCINMA!! Hiking/climbing pants fit perfectly! :)
Small access zipper on BB would really be helpful. I'd like to see a picture as well. Any instructions would also be helpful.
For anyone doing a bike tour this year, there is a great web resource called crazyguyonabike.com. It's full of journals, articles, classified ads, and more.
Here are two items:
1 - An Schrade Old Timer Sharpfinger knife. I think (not positive) it's a carbon steel blade. I am thinking this because it was rusty (or very dirty) and I cleaned it some. ...
Nice - like new - small backpack. It's a JanSport (quality pack) and it's dark green. There are two larger compartments and three smaller ones. It has a padded back and padded shoulder straps. ...
Nice like new backpack is still available.
Here is my PIF - a dark green JanSport small backpack several pockets and compartments. This would probably be a good daypack or a good backpack for a college or highschool student.
First PM gets...
I thought I was getting the hiking pants - they were already spoken for. I already have 2 Camelbacks. Won't be getting PIF from JCINMA. I keep checking.
Thanks!:)
I'll take it. This is my first PIF. I am at a meeting and will be around 8:30 before I can post my PIF. Hope that will be OK. I'll send you a PM.
Sold to Dave-O pending funds.:)
HH Ultralite Backpacker Asym Zip. Here is a list of what it comes with.

- HEX 70D Tarp
- Hammock stuff sack

Mister Dark, you made the right decision to lose some altitude to get to feeling better! Thanks for your firebuilding skills and the kindling wood you brought. I enjoyed watching you start the fire...
My first winter hang was a great success for me! Thanks for organizing a great weekend wisenber and thanks for the ride. Thanks for a great ribeye, MedicineMan. Very flavorful and JUICY steak -...
MedicineMan, what time do you plan to go through Roan Mountain. Work out someting to get snowshoes at some point.
Edited: Meet at Bob's at 13:30 sounds good.
Wisenber, I can meet you either at Ingles in Colonial Heights or out at the Appalachian Fairgrounds. I feel safe leaving vehicle at either place. Iive been trying to think of a place toward Johnson...
Has anybody worked out a place to leave vehicles in Roan Mountain or are all vehicles going to Carvers' Gap?
My week has suddenly filled up through Friday at noon when I intend start heading to meet Wisenber. Due to my schedule, it would be very difficult to carve out time to prebake potatoes.
Probably...
Cast iron griddle is on my list.:)
I have a cast iron griddle (8" x 17") - great for eggs and bacon. Possibly could find it if it's needed. Too heavy to carry, but could put it on the pulk.
I'll try to pre-cook the baked potatoes either Thursday sometime or Friday morning. I'll try to get them close to done and then we can finish cooking on the coals. This will save some time.
Sounds good - I'll bring the baking potatoes and fixings and aluminum foil.
Road trip to RM for hot meal sounds like a great idea to me. Breakfast sounds good or Bob's has a "SUPER" burger that's fairly well known too.
I saw where MedicineMan has offered to bring steaks....
What will be the source of water on Roan High Knob? What about purification? What do you experienced cold weather hangers do to keep water from freezing?
I made a loop out of paracord and then attached the paracord to dyneema cord with a prussic knot. The knot slips fairly easily on the dyneema. Sure seems like it would not hold a tarp especially in...
