I'm still keeping my hammock around. I'll just use it less and maybe only for trips that are more focused on the camping aspect instead of the making miles aspect.

Mainly the fiddle factor, and I could have less bulk in my pack with just using a tarp for shelter. I tend to fiddle around with my gear too much in the evenings and with a tarp or lightweight tent,...
Well, I've decided to part with most of my hammock gear. On my 2010 AT thru-hike I started with my hammock and was converted back to a ground dweller by Neels Gap. That was the last time I've used...

I'm down sizing my backpacking closet, so here are some items that have been barely used.

Warbonnet The Edge tarp in the old blue silnylon $75.00. SOLD...
You can also permanently attach you tarp by using a larkshead on both ends. Make a larkshead on one prusik, attach it to the tarp. For the other end make a prusik on a separate piece of line other...
I also wear trail runners and i'm afraid of the moisture from my wet shoes soaking into my down bag and lose it's loft. I don't mind wet shoes as long as they aren't frozen. They do seem to dry right...
I put my shoes in a big ziplock bag and put them under my knees, that's usually where my clothes bag goes. I find that having my knees bent slightly in the hammock helps them from being sore in the...

I'm heading out in mid March for the thru-hike also, 14th or 15th. My plan is to have my hammock with me the whole time. I'll be using a 3-season 3/4" quilt with a z-lite pad, and superfly tarp with...
If not to late. I'll take 100' of 2.2 Gray and 50' of 1.75 red.
Well, I got bit by the Black Mamba, got swooped up by the Blackbird and landed on and The Edge. Guess i'll have to keep my day job a little longer...
I'm also on the list for a single 1.1. hope my HH ULBA doesn't get jealous. It probably will though.
the outer shell is the same length as the inner shell. is that the problem?
on my first DIY underquilt, i'm having compression problems and a little bit of migration problems. i did used differential baffles. the inner shell chambers are 6 1/2" and the outer is 8". I thought...
Do you think that using more chambers say 10 would help avoid down compression versus 7 chambers on an underquilt. Will be using differential baffles also?

Just got my superfly in. can't wait to get it set up, the new door design looks like it should work good. i'll weigh mine tommorrow.
Thanks, i guess i'll stick with biners for the moment.
Can't find them anywhere. I've been trying to find a place to purchase dutch clips. I saw that the HF store was carrying them, but i figured i would wait to purchase them. Now i'm kicking myself in...
Thanks for all the input. Jerry, you haven't had any problems with the down shifting too much? I quess if it was overstuffed it wouldn't as prone to shift?
Making plans for a winter top quilt, i as wondering if differential baffles really make a difference in a top quilt. The baffles will be going lateral.
thanks for the input
i'm planning to thru hike the AT in mid march this year and was wondering if i would have enough coverage with a 10x8 tarp. i use a HH ultralite backpacker. any thoughts or recommedations are...
