I use the msr tensioner rings for my side lines and just wrap my lines around my tie out loops for storage. I use the figure 9's with the carabineer clip for my two ridge lines. I leave them clipped...
I would leave it wide, can always trim later.
Same way I did mine. Never fell yet! Looks good!
My cousin and I made UQ's with a single layer of 5oz per yard apex and we love them! We have only had them down to 28 deg. and that is about as far as I would go with ours. They seem to be holding up...
Right on! Well said, I agree!
Welcome from Wisconsin!
OK I'll throw my hat into a group hang also!
I used to have a very similar issue. I switched to a longer hammock to get a more flat lay and that solved it for me! I felt comfy in the smaller one but, I it was just putting a little pressure on...
I would love to help!!
Welcome from Mosinee Wi!
Great videos Shug!
I made an UQ with a single layer of 5 oz and have been down to 28 deg, I would not want to ant colder than that with it. I think the 5 and 2.5 would do really well
My cousin and I were just up there for 2 nights 2 weekends ago.During the day we had zero problems with any bugs! At night we were glad we had our bug nets! It only got down to 60 degrees but when it...
I made my own out of 1/2" aluminium tubing I found for $3 at a hardware store. Most people don't use that large of diameter, but i find for me that it makes the knot larger and the whoopy stays on it...
I use the cheap aluminium shepherds hook ones from walmart. I like the hook style for ease of use but thats just my 2 cents.
Welcome from Wisconsin!
Welcome from Wisconsin!
I take mine all the time. I just set it on the ground, it makes you feel cozy and with citronella candles it helps with the bugs.
Welcome from the mosinee area!
We were planning on doing an out and back, but a strait through is an option also.
Great job! I made one with a single layer of 5oz and love it! I have had it to 28 degrees with a matching TQ.
I made a set of quilts using apex. They have been stuffed many times in the 6 months(short time I know). I have not noticed any change in loft of warmth.
I LOVE hanging in thunder and rain!!!
I started to get wrinkles but I would just adjust how much I had the fabric rolled over as a went and it took care of the problem for me.
As far as guy lines go, I just use stout string with a piece of shock cord on the end that hooks on my stake. In 2-3 years of moderate use the wind is yet to rip a stake out on me. I highly suggest...
I made the same tarp and it works great!
Nice job! My cousin and I made a TQ and UQ with the 5.5 apex and it is some amazing stuff! We have pushed them to about 26-28 degrees. Hope you have great results also.
What he said! My cousin and I have both made these and it was super easy and pretty cheap.
Looks like you had a great trip! Thanks for the videos. I hope to be up that way in august and if all the stars align maybe this fall again. WHOOOOO BUDDDYYY
This is the place to learn, That is for sure! There are so many helpful people here. Good luck to you.
We used the Sawyer brand and were using 98% deet bug spray as well as a repellent called "Bye bye black fly". All of these usually work really well, just not this trip.
My cousin and I just sewed button holes into the side channels of the UQ(3 equally spaced). We then put mitten hooks on the shock cord at each button hole. The UQ is still suspended on the ends but...
My cousin and I both had all of our clothing treated with permeththrin and still were getting chewed up!
The SHT will be happening this summer no matter how bad the bugs are! Hopefully in august
Well we went up fri- mon the 24. We had 1 tick between the two of us. The skeeters were a little bad at times BUT... The biting flys were terrible!!! Swarms upon swarms on us anytime we were near the...
I've got a couple smoke sticks, bug spray, bug balm, a head net, and long sleeves. If all of that doesn't work, then we will be flailing fools on the trail.
My cousin and I will be braving the bugs this coming weekend! I guess it's long sleeves and head nets...
This worked!! I'm back!
DITTO, Also any info on lake of the clouds?
I have tried the arrow shafts and in my opinion they are to small. It's not a huge deal but I had problems keeping my whoopies on the knot. I went to a local hardware store and found some larger...
It is amazing how tricky it can be to get it right!
I spread my stuff out all the time looking at everything, once hand a while I actually find something I can improve. ha ha. It's a long learning curve so far!
Shug, You are the master! I get the same grief from my fiance when my gear is covering the living room floor while I am packing ha ha. Thanks for all the info you have put out for everyone. I hope to...
This would be my set up for middle of spring to the middle of fall, 2-3 days worth of food and one liter of water. I weighed it ready to go!
Shug is a very wise man!
I am a 200lbs. I was just curious what others are carrying. I agree though, bigger gear = heavier
Yes, it includes the pack.
Geargrams.com Looks Like it would be very handy! Thanks for the suggestion
I can say I did cut out a few items as soon as I weighed them. I agree 100% on the scale being a great purchase, it makes it much easier to see how things really add up!
