Loved the article. Reminded me about the Vietnam era jungle hammock I slept in when camping as a kid.

That says it all.:)
Greetings from the Crystal Coast.
Done. Semper Fi!
Welcome from the Crystal Coast.
If you call temps >85 with >80% humidity (about 75% of the year) good weather.
I would rather see the 100+ temps with 5% humidity that my mom sees.
But the Lord, has me in NC for his purposes.
Welcome from the Crystal Coast of North Carolina.
+1 Folks moved to AZ when I was in college, and the Marines sent me to NC, so I have had little opportunity to go back.
I would recommend the bowline, since it will not slip and be easy to untie if desired.
It could be left in permanently if adjustments are done with that carabiner and the python loops.
Welcome from the Crystal Coast.
You're welcome.
Welcome from the Crystal Coast.
Can understand that issue if I was camping in SD or others spots, North (Like Michigan) but since I now live in the south I can make due.
Saw it this morning, thankfully was able to take advantage of it.
If you're renting you need to check with the landlord. If they do an inspection and find holes in the wall it could get you into trouble, if they do not know about it before hand. (FYI I work for a...
I have one of these (www.seasidehammocks.com/COTTON-QUEEN-SIZE-HAMMOCK-p31.html) Nice to sleep in, just make sure you have a 30 degree hang angle for best lay.
Welcome from a transplanted Michigander with Norwegian heritage.
Grew up in Elk Rapids, have family in Kalamazoo. That was long ago.
From the site I linked it does. The trail is 20 miles and as part of the Mountains to Sea Trail, I would think it has to.
I have yet to try it, but plan to before the year is out. It would be a...
Being from northern Michigan, I too need land with contours.
As for the Croatan, (since I am looking to get back into backpack camping) I saw literature on the Neusiok Trail, which is part of the...
Croatan National Forest, New Bern, NC may fit your criteria. I have not been there, but am planning to in the near future.
Link to Forest Service Web Site...
Welcome from the Crystal Coast.
Welcome from the Crystal Coast.
Welcome from a transplanted Michigander.
I also took advantage of it. Got the Explorer Ultralite Asym Classic with the SuperShelter.
Awaiting the time to try it out.
Try this site. www.animatedknots.com
I had a similar hammock in the 70's when the family camped, how I hung it was to adjust the lines from the hammock to the metal bracket so that the outside lines were tighter then the inside lines. ...
If you noticed sweat, in the morning, you were too insulated and got wet during the night. Once that happened you were going to get cold.
As former scout and Marine, I would say that if you don't want to spend a night or two in the backyard, make the first few nights at a site when you can retreat to your car, at least, not 10 miles...
I ordered one w/beach pegs on 2/20, Have received the beach pegs, still waiting on the standing. Planning on using it on Hammocks Beach State Park, here in NC. I may be the first to camp with a...
I'm just getting back into camping after many years away. As a teenager, I hung from a Vietnam era military surplus jungle hammock. It fastened to the tree via a 1/2" rope. Never noticed any damage...
Welcome from Jacksonville.
Amen. The very definition of Freedom.
Dry and cold is a lot easier to deal with then wet and cold.
Wet and cold brings hypothermia.
I wear one of these http://www.survivalstraps.com/patriot-military/usmc/wide-survival-bracelet-officially-licensed-usmc-multicam.html for emergencies.
Thanks for the report. Seeing the pictures, makes me miss Michigan.
Overall I like the version with the Orange Background. Simple and clean.
As far as the misspelling issue, you could always capitalize the second "M" (HamMeck) for effect.
Ok, I am following the logic. thanks.
I did not realize that.
That begs the question about traditional stands that do not have anything between the uprights. How is the side load/compression load handled with those?
QUESTION; I am not sure of the purpose of the ridgepole.
When I was in the Boy Scouts (many many moons ago, also the last time I slept in a hammock, soon to change) I would build inverted pyramid...
They also have the SuperShelter on sale as well (with the purchase of hammock).
With the Explorer Ultralight and the SS you can save $135.00.
While a grunt in the Marines, I had the original MRE's. To lighten the load, I would be careful to open the outer packaging, remove the contents I did not want, and the outer packaging of the...
I remember the color and location of port and starboard by the number of letters in the words. The longer word is always to the right.
Port = Left = Red
Starboard = Right = Green
...
MGLion, it stands for Michigan Grunt Lions Fan, which is what I use on other forums.
New to the Forum. Was a Boy Scout and the family did a fair bit of camping, I somehow got an old army surplus...
