I selected the "Frontline" because it IS breathable. I can always use my tarp as a groundcloth if I have to go to the ground (but I don't plan on ever testing that option).

I own several hammocks, but the DD Frontline is the one I take for all my overnight camping trips.
CCF pads work well for me.
That looks like about the distance between trees I look for.
If you were comfortable, adjust the ridgeline where it's tight at that point, and you can repeat the angle.
I've never been one to...
Got thinking about it and have to ask. ;)
Almost every post about hammocks suggest changing out the suspension on a good many brands. When I came to the forum and started reading I found myself...
No.
I like the double layer. Makes it easy to add a ccf pad for insulation without the pad slipping around.
If I want light weight I take a single layer hammock like my Grand Trunk.
The only other thing you might need is an underquilt if you plan to use it in cooler temperatures. I use a foam pad between layers and it works for me for mild weather.
I switched my suspension, but...
I've seen that thread, too. My problem is new ones are invented every day, and I can't figure them out all too often. Just wish members would think of newbys and spell it out once in their post to...
Been a forum member for several months now and I'm still lost on a large majority of the meanings of thread titles and statements made in posts.
I have no idea what a MBD, QMH, DBC (and most of...
Ordered one to try for UQ use in warm weather.
Not expecting it to provide comfort in cold weather, but it might be the solution to CBS on cool early/late summer nights.
For that price I can't be...
OK, you got the DD hammock sleeve. Had me fooled, I thought you bought snake skins. I tried the snake skins and much prefer the DD sleeve! Not too tight, and works very well.
I switched my...
Seems to me the discussion has really dwindled away in those donating member only forums since the change was made. :(
Made a couple hammocks decades ago using tools and instructions from the company in this link .
Easy to make following the instructions, but be prepared for a few cuts & blisters on the fingers....
Mine is simply my Shawnee name. My ancestry includes Shawnee bloodlines.
Mine stretched quite a bit the first time I hung the Frontline.
I switched the suspension out and put polyester webbing, dutch clips, and cinch buckles from Arrowhead Equipment on the Frontline. ...
Hope these tips and links are helpful in making your selection(s). I'm sure you'll get a lot of ideas.
You can spend a small fortune in trying various equipment, but (thankfully) it's often easy to...
Never really thought about the effects of eating/drinking before turning in for the night, but last night my son and I decided to spend a night "hanging out" in the woods.
We ate a good meal about...
I read the title and was thinking double layer.
I've never tried a double size hammock, but I definitely prefer a double layer! Great place to stuff a bit of insulation (thin CCF pad) on cool...
You should be fine with that setup at those temps.
After two nights on the ground a little cold weather would never chase me out of the hammock.
I was surprised that the thin 5mm pad does so well. I sleep in a DD Frontline and the double bottom keep the pad in place. I simply place it between the layers for my diagonal lay and it stays in...
Paracord & carabiner.
Low temperature, that is. :D
Just got into hammock camping this year and haven't been able to afford UQs for both my hammock and my son's, so we just use CCF pads.
His is a 1/2" CCF pad and mine...
I got myself a new hammock this summer then I had to buy one for my son. We both love them and I guess it's contagious around the household.
Now Geoffrey (our new kitten) has fallen in love with...
My prayers go out to those involved.
Went camping again last night.
In years past camping season (tent camping) for me and my son was ended when school started. By then my back was too tired to face another night sleeping in the...
Went out again last night and again tried the same trees and same sag.
Had a great night's sleep again. :D
(So good that my son was up and had his hammock stored in his pack before I woke up -...
I've found with my DD hammock the taught hang works well for comfort (but a bit confining), or an extreme amount of sag is comfortable, but the "middle ground" in the sag is not so good.
Haven't...
I might try rigging an old sleeping bag or quilt as an UQ and give it a try.
I do have a 1/2" CCF pad, but was planning on using it in my son's hammock which has a canvas bottom and is much warmer,...
Took my son camping again last night and the temps got down to a new low for us while camping. Not really cold yet, but it was the first night at below 50°F.
I did stay warm, and I only used a...
I got my first wool clothing compliments of the US Navy and found out it's really warm! Many days well below 0°F and I was never really cold wearing wool.
Over the years I tended to stick with...
I've found mine comfortable with at both ends of the spectrum. Either hang very taut, or extreme sag and a diagonal lay. Either works for me as far as comfort with my bad back. I like taut in cooler...
Just finished my first read of this thread and I must say I'm sure glad I bought a DD Frontline BEFORE I read it.
Couldn't be more pleased with my purchase. Design I love, great quality, and a very...
I'll admit the donating members off topic forum is what provided the "necessity" to become a donating member, but it's a small price for all the help and ideas this forum makes available to me.
Still looking, but I've found several features I like/dislike with the few I've tried.
DD Hammock:
My favorite is my DD Frontline.
Double bottom makes the option of a CCF pad easy to use in...
It would be great to see some pics of DD's facilities if you get the opportunity.
I love my DD Frontline, it would be nice to see where it was made.
Looking for about 30' of cord for ridgelines.
If anyone has this small amount available please PM me.
(Can pay with PayPal.)
Thanks Poppabear!
I really love the generosity of the members on...
Had the hammock hung today (attached a peak bag & ridge line organizer inside the bug new w/1/16" shock cord).
Tried a structural ridge line from cinch buckle to cinch buckle on my suspension and it...
Got the new peak bag today (also a ridge line organizer - was shocked at the light weight & quality construction of both items - very nice!).
Removed the suspension from the head, located the...
Again the obvious solution escaped me. :o
I have a package of grip clips laying on my workbench.
Ordered a peak bag, but now I'm wondering on the best way to attach it in my DD Frontline. The bug net is sewn to the hammock, and the suspension isn't accessible from inside the hammock.
Thinking...
Far from being an expert, but the first hammock I bought was an inexpensive "jungle hammock" with a canvas bottom and 5 loops sewn to the canvas at each end. The loops had a cord laced through each...
I have a DD Frontline and finally found a very comfortable "hang" with it last time out. link to post about sag
Does anyone use a structural ridge line with a DD with the bug net?
I'm...
Thinking of adding a structural ridgeline to my DD.
Finally hit the "sweet spot" for my body when camping about a week ago. Thought I could easily match it by sight when hanging again, but found out...
The DD Frontline has served me well.
(I'm 5'6' - 170#)
The double bottom is nice for a CCF pad, and the hammock is very good quality.
No experience with the others.
Glad to know you are aware of the possibility of condensation. I don't think it will be a major problem, but it is something you need to check before storing the hammock long-term. I simply opened...
I'm lucky enough to have access to private property to use. :D
Still gets a bit "crowded" at times, though. On the 4th of July I broke camp at 11:00PM and headed home when some drunken "neighbors"...
Decided I'm going back to alcohol fueled stoves as my primary cooking stove (don't like the soot of a woodburner ).
I have a FourDogs Bushcooker Lt II I recently purchased that I've...
I bought a Eureka Chrysalis on sale (from Cabela's) recently and replaced the factory suspension with lighter weight suspension & spreader bars (AE's chain links/cinch buckles & web tree straps,...
Took the Frontline out again last night and thought I'd experiment with the sag again. I decided to go a bit extreme with it (in comparison to my previous attempts with a hammock) so I attached the...
I love my Frontline! Great hammock as far as I'm concerned!
Not the lightest in weight, but the double bottom makes a great way to use a light CCF pad in warm weather without is slipping around...
