sorry guys - not sure what is up...
yeah - sounds like we could have some "good training weather"........
still planning on being there Friday afternoon.
we doing individual food or a group meal or 2?
I haven't heard back from any of the BCUSA folks. :(
on the plus side, the current forecast doesn't sound bad -- chance of damp Friday night but 50 on Saturday and 56 on Sunday after waking up to...
I'll check and see.
sweet!
since my snow cave is melting before I got to sleep in it, I can use a good hang!
currently planning on it - thanks for the head's up!
I'll try to convince some of the BCUSA guys to come play as well once you confirm the park is available.
I started with the 10x10 BCUSA tarp, but it doesn't cover the ends of my hammock, so I switched to the 10x12 Etowah tarp linked above and it's a good piece of kit.
yes, there are 5 sets of tabs...
this coming weekend I will be in Western ks. the 30th I'll be up in the middle of Nebraska hanging with some bushcrafters.
depends on species - 6" catalpa bends, 4" oak doesn't.
did they relocate to the north side of Perry where we did the spring hike & camp?
good to hear - Friday afternoon wasn't bad, but the freezing mist Friday night followed by a pretty cold Saturday would not have made for a fun hang -- "good training weather" as we used to call it,...
I will definitely be working Friday evening and all day Saturday - and it looks like SWMBO has plans for holiday shopping in KC on Sunday. (at least I'll get to start the day out with brunch at...
not a bad price - any chance they had some of those in "tall"?
they're blue closed cell foam pads roughly 20x72"x 1/2" thick.
I currently use a piece of reflectix radiant barrier under my bag - it's 24" wide and weighs nothing, but you'll still need a good bag...
well, drat.
I have to work late on the 13th and all day on the 14th -- if things go badly, I may still be there sunday... :(
you want #9 - #18 per this Twine size chart: http://l-36.com/twine_size.php
Oct 11-13 I'll be at a Bushcraft meet west of Wichita.
6'1" pretty happy with my Yukon Outfitter double and very happy with my Trek Lite double. Wally $25 special is too short and narrow.
Etowah makes a pretty good tarp at a fair price.
it's a possibility for me as well -- depending on when my next trip to Tn happens. I met up with some of the BCUSA guys SW of columbia a few months back at Jamestown and that was pretty country down...
I hang my pack from the tree and bring a spare carabiner to hook through my bootlaces and hang them off an end of the hammock -- dry under the tarp and no "visitors" nesting in them overnight.
I think I still have 1 left.
20 miles North of Topeka.
trees for hanging, mowed pasture for tents or hammock stands.
potable water 1/4 mile away.
outhouse.
this will also be attended by folks from BCUSA, so hawk throwing,...
this is my process as well.
PM sent.
hope some is left
I've still got the thing at my place scheduled for July 5-7 if you want to move this to my place.
no fascinbating trails or lake, but plenty of country road to hike on if you're still trying to...
yup - we've had some impressive weather here the past couple days but tonight was 45 minutes of scary here as well.
owl - thanks for the head's up on weasel's progress.
It's made from the same stuff as Amsteel Blue and Dyneema, and the specs are definitely strong enough so I see no reason why you shouldn't use the 3/16" stuff, unless it's scary expensive.
...
Nat, if it's any consolation, I just spent 4 days back in the hills. OUr forecast was for a 30% chance of showers each day.
Thursday and friday the skies were impressive to watch but it stayed dry....
welcome from the center of the US!
I'm jealous of the countryside you have to tromp around in, enjoy swingin' in the breeze!
any chance that MSS is the "Long" version?
welcome to the forum Nat -- and I feel your pain on the weather.
it's supposed to be 83F (34c) here tomorrow and chance of snow flurries Wednesday night!
welcome to the neighborhood!
Check the trip planning subforum - midwest section for the upcoming (June) hang at Woodbridge just South of Stull.
I'm organizing a camp/hang at my place either the weekend of June 28th or July 5th, so am probably not going to make this one. (still have an outhouse to build)
another vote for the nano 23 'biners -- I picked up a 6-pack and they're very handy for a lot of things.
how big/heavy are you?
that makes a difference in price and availability.
for example, the Byer Moskito is only rated for 225 or 250 pounds and is the cheapest (and lowest cost) hammock I know of...
I was in Fairbury 2 weeks ago - had a burger for lunch at some bar -- it was tasty.
Was up that way to pick up a load of custom knives and spent the day in the maker's shop learning all sorts of...
there's a BCUSA meetup at Kingman Lake down by Wichita next weekend (19-21) - you're more than welcome to show up for that, but you'll probably need a hammock stand, as there are not a lot of...
I was happy to find it -- half the weight of my current bag will help lighten the loadout. and the 2-way zipper means I should be able to figure out a way to use it as an underquilt/enclosed toe box....
I was doing some online searches today and found 40 degree bags under 3 pounds and under $30 -- then stopped at ****'s Sporting goods on the way home and found a 40 degree kelty bag on clearance for...
yup -it works great.
Hoot - reason #3 was the water spigot between the trailhead and the campsite -- since we couldn't find the lake to replenish canteens from - just acres and acres of mud flats... :)
I sprayed my...
Tony - you missed out, the weather was perfect!
homemade 6' long 2" seat belt webbing for me - as a tree protection measure.
no problems or issues, they don't weigh that much, and i use a nano biner to attach my hammock suspension to them.
enjoyed it!
sounds cool - will be looking forward to your review of the skeeter net version.
Bummer you can't make it -- we'll try to have some extra fun for you.
3 is doable for me.
