Welcome, it is good to see another Novocastrian hanging around.
G'Day from Newcastle
Should have changed your name on the other forums.
G'day from the other end of the GNW. The hammock gives you a lot more options and better places to stop along the GNW.
I use my tarp tieouts, bunch up the tarp and tie a half hitch every foot or two and a double half at the end
I'd be happy to hangout around Sydney in the next few weeks or other time. Also interested to hangout elsewhere with enough time to plan the travel.
I've got a simple solution, splice the Knotty Not into the core of the free end of the line, then fold it back onto the line before wrapping the other line around it.
In the picture the white line...
@hayaku besides looking nice and neat you can used the single line where the bury is to tie the shackle to a ridge line (or other) with a prussic knot.
Always interested in a chance to hang out in the bush, my last hang in the Watagans was Anzac day with 50kph+ winds all night that tested out the gear.
I'll PM you my email address.
Cheers,
gd.
G'Day,
Welcome to the foruns from another Novacastrian, I'd be happy to catch up for a Hike/Hang.
This tension factor table gives the factors to multiply your weight by for each section of the suspension when using a ridgeline (or SLS).
Nice report, we had a leisurely 4 day K2K walk 12 months ago.
Great spot.
There was some mention of them in this loopy line thread. If you put the biner on the loose end of the constrictor it should hold perfectly.
I use my stuff sack too but I larkshead it on the ridgeline and it leaves the line lock free to keep the bag closed. Not as easy to take off when it has something in it though.
Jazilla,
I like the look of your idea, to get full adjustability you could move the constricter sections inside the minimum length of ridgeline you want making the adjustable loop longer. This...
lonetraker, I haven't had any slipping on the outer constricters at all, as you say the ridgeline keeps tension on them so they hold well.
MAD777 my thinking actually started the way you are...
I'll leave the fixed v adjustable ridgeline discussion for another time, the sling section of the loopy line works the same with either.
There would be pros and cons for this and for whoopies but...
Yay, a reply. I'm glad someone likes it.
Oh and you don't need a pair, one length of rope with three loops does both sides (two loops if you want a fixed length ridgeline).
I look forward to...
Feel free to knock (or discuss) the idea as much as you like, it's the only way ideas evolve into something useful, even I don't think this is my best idea, I prefer to use my Loopy Line suspension...
It's just a whoopie with the constrictor section in a different spot (the conversation started on the last page at post #777.
Here's a picture of it short between a couple of nacrabiners....
There is the downside that you can't use a larks head to attach to the hammock, but I'm sure there are a few ways to attach without adding nearly as much length as you would save. I use a nacrabiner...
As requested, some photos of my variation.

Updated, Thanks...
I knew there was a reason I said "if my maths is correct" it has been a while since I've done too much of it.
I'll check the spreadsheet tomorrow to make sure but I think it will halve all the...
Here is a table I've posted before.

I posted this in the whoopie sling sticky the other daybut this is the thread that got me thinking of this solution. Should get the minimum length down to less than half of a convetional whoopie...
The main dowside with whoopie slings that I have read about on here is the minimum length that can be acheived. Well I've made one with a change that allows it go much shorter.
I built the...
Perhaps the PIF spreedsheet should identify the country the item is in and the rules for postage could be "shipping in the Originating country and "worked out" to be shipped everywhere else"
That...
Sleeping on the ground with your feet uphill also means that the rest of your body is higher than your head, which is not what happens with the foot end of your hammock being slightly higher than the...
If we take a simplistic view of the hammock, your weight is distributed through the structure into three tensions (or equal and opposite sets of forces) as shown below....
This is one of the reasons I went with the Loopy Line, I can shorten them to half the length of the bury.
G'Day everyone,
I'm new to hanging and have been reading these forums for a month or so now, there is so much interesting info in here.
Anyway I was looking for the best suspension idea and...
