No need.
If I need an extender, just run a single line of cord, bowline on each end. A UCR would still be a lot heavier than a single cord.
The Whoopie still provides the adjustability.
Decided to due a proper comparison of the UCR with constrictor full length silicone tubing with a Whoopie Sling of equal maximum extension.
My test UCR has ended up with a max extension of 6'.
...
Note on the UCR: Even with the silicone tubing on the full length of the constrictor, the constrictor is still very touchy. A very light touch and the constrictor slips.
The Prussic knot solution...
See my second update.
The silicone tubing can easily be added to already completed UCRs.
With the full length tubing, the UCR is easily adjustable.
Second update.
When I made the UCR first with the tubing, I used toggles on both ends, i.e., the hammock end and the tree end. I did that so that I could swap ends on the UCR for testing purposes....
UPDATE:
Switched from using my needle as a splicing tool to using a loop of 24 ga wire. Makes making the UCR much simpler. Making the Whoopie Sling is still easier and quicker though if for no...
Do you know the dimensions? ID? Are you planning on using with the 2 mm Dynaglide? or maybe 7/64" or 1/8" amsteel?
Need more experimentation. I just made a WAG and used 7" since I was uncomfortable using less.
But I keep thinking that the clothes pin pinches much tighter than the tubing does and I'm pretty...
Thanks for the info. Then maybe the 7" length of the tubing I used is much too long and I could cut it down considerably. That would make construction a lot easier.
The tubing has the advantage in...
cheaper than McMaster-Carr, but I think the ID may be kind of large to use with the 2 mm Dynaglide. Look around McMaster-Carr at their silicone tubing stock. They have a wide range of types and there...
Nope. Used what I have on hand.
But I can think of some reasons why I would prefer the silicone:
silicone tubing is much, much, much more flexible and hence easier to use in the finished...
Yes - I struggled with using toggles in spliced fixed eyes for a long time until I devised that. Some vinyl tubing from Lowes, work it on and cut to desired length. Works great. Best method I was...
Less line, hence less weight.
Construction is a LOT more difficult and time consuming.
I would recommend this construction method of the UCR only for thjose who are very weight conscious.
I should also mention that even with the silicone tubing, it MAY be very easy to touch the unloaded end and slip the UCR depending on the UCR orientation. The Prussic approach will solve that...
I doubt it. The IV tubing I have had used on me is nothing like the silicone tubing I have. I think the IV tubing that has always been used on me is medical grade vinyl. The IV tubing is clear, the...
When I first tested the UCR back when they were introduced, I tried various bury lengths, from 12" to 18". If I remember correctly I could get the UCR to hold at 14" minimum with a lot of work to get...
McMaster-Carr. Also medical supply places should have it, I believe.
I seem to have gotten this silicone tubing stuck in my mind the past few days. Today another use for the tubing popped into my mind for use in making a UCR that is as easy to use as the Whoopie...
