I also use the type in the second picture for almost everything that needs hanging up of fastening down apart from the hammock itself.
As already said they are great for tarps!

Why use toggles? I use a larks head directly onto the tree strap.
There's no toggle to slip out and the larks had won't diminish the strength of the whoopee!
Maybe I should add that I'm using a...
None whatsoever but I would like to hear of your trials with Alpaca
Hello from the UK.
Its been a while since I was last in London Ont. I used to know a young lady there back in the 80's.
I like others use a prussik on the tarp guys
Hello From a Scouter from the 2nd Quorn Group, in the Charnwood District in the UK.
We have a few scouts in Hammocks and a few scouters. Best nights sleep in Camp I've ever had. I'm sure you won't...
Its a learning process, after you have done it once you know not to do it again.
I did it but not with rain, I managed to pitch my tarp so it funneled the wind through it all night, for a start I...
Hello from a soggy midlands.
I use belt and braces, but I have to say that the whoopie hooks seem to remove all the water and keep me and my hammock nice and dry. The old laces I have tied to the...
Hi LuckyStars
If you are looking for a smaller more robust solution, how about using some aluminium to make the loops and hooks for the boots. If you wanted to add a bit of friction you could use...
I have converted my UL with whoopies, hooks and continious loops from Dutch and it really simplifies the setup and adjustment.
It really is as simple as it seems on the u-tube videos
I use mine to hang a small led light inside the bugnet, other than that . . . . .
Plus one on the snakeskins, they make deploying the tarp so much easier in the wind, mine are silnylon but if I was to replace them I would seriously look at the skins made from bug netting as they...
This looks good and you may well be onto something.
However I'm not sure of the advantages over a couple of sticks in the ground with my boots hung upside-down on them, always dry and so far bug...
I am with you on this, i managed to leave just one of my tree straps behind on a hike, with a whoopie, a dutch hook and a dutch clip attached to it. :crying
Had to repeat half of the hike the...
:confused:Why?
I use them on my Hammock and Tarp, I think the hammock take up a little more room or it may be that its not quite such a convenient shape when packed. The tarp lives on the outside of the pack so its...
I don't know and I'm working away so I will not have a chance to measure it for a while yet.
I used 12" continuous loops and I still have my snakeskins on, I am a little nervous of the end loops...
like others here I am a back sleeper in my Hammock and a side sleeper in bed.
I use a fleece coat or jumper for a pillow, stuffed into the bag my quilt is kept in.
I dont know what it is about...
would a small bit of hot melt glue fix it?
Its just as Dogbone says, a bit of a fiddle to cut the tie-wrap.
I replaced the tie wrap with a smaller one to shave a few more grams off. Its also a bit of a fiddle to cut the tail off this, I used...
I have just made this exact change to my HH and its much lighter with whoopies than the stock suspension. Before I made this change I altered the way I hang my Tarp so it would not sag as much when I...
I do much the same as other people, Boots upsidedown on sticks under the Hammock and my pack with its cover on hangs from the suspension at the head of the Hammock. everything else is in there with...
I think there may be a bit of mileage in just using straps and buckles
I was used to tents and used tents for 30 plus years, i can still remember feeling vunerable in the Hammock for the first time, being up in Michigan near the Macinac straights and having seen bears...
Well Stevebo your right at least it wasn't at home!
I plan to repeat the hike next week, my wife has suggested that I need a carer to go with me so it will be a Dad and Daughter hang next weekend....
Normally I also take too much and I normally scour the campsite for any kit I may have dropped.
My only excuse is that my kettle was boiling and I was talking again!
Tree strap cum belt buckle! I...
I bet you can't guess what I'll be doing in the future, and i may just go on the same hike next weekend
:crying well I met another hiker interested in my Hammock this morning whilst I was packing away, it was a real frosty start and I had a kettle boiling for my brew. I guess I was trying to do too...
Hello from the UK! I also keep my tarp in a set of snake skins I think it helps keep the tarp clean of mud and easy to set up.
Well I have just finished the change over to whoopies, hooks, 1" webbing and clips so a whole change over. It was surprisingly simple to do thanks to some good info on here.
Whilst I'm not a gram...
Nice one!
i cannot wait for mine to arrive to do the same
I'm about to do this, I've ordered some 15" continious loops to replace the suspension on my HH.
I am intending to wrap them in the same way as you would if you were going to replace with a...
We may have visited the same vendor as this also happened to me this week. The response to you was very wrong, but don't sweat on it as you know 'you did the right'
So you are already 1 up on the...
My first day hike and Stealth Camp in wood not far from my home in the UK

Hello Jacko
From a hanger on this side of the pond
Welcome from the UK!!!!!!!!
Hammocks! the best nights sleep I ever had!
I have a Hennessey UL but I do not have whoopies fitted to it.
when i pitch up the Hammock I keep the ridgeline taught and have not had an issue with a ridge under my knees, i've certainly not...
Welcome from the UK!!!
there are a good number of us on here, but you need to look closely
Hi from very sunny Leicestershire
I hang my pack on the suspension ropes with a biner I carry for the job, that way its under the tarp and out of the mud
If you are discrete you can hang in woods that are seldom visited, and in the local country parks if there is a good wooded area. I do!
But above all stealth camping is about being discrete and...
Looks like a nice trip, great photos
I wonder if they will show this on cable here in the UK? It will be worth watching!
Good Luck to your sons from a Scouter in the UK.
Does your hennessey have a bottom entry or a zip? Not that i suppose it matters if they fit so well.
Hello from across the pond.
I am a Scout Leader with the 2nd Quorn scouts, Charnwood District, here in the UK. I have 2 daughters who are now both Explorer Scouts working towards their Queens Scout...
It certainly looks promising, I do wonder how crinkly it would be if and when you move around and also how much repacking it would take to tear or destroy it. I guess only time will tell.
On the now odd occasions I ground dwell I put them on sticks or my walking poles as all good scouts should, it keeps the wet out too!
But when i'm in my wonderous hammock they join me in there in...
