Heck of a story...sounds like things could have gone pear-shaped pretty quickly!! Did you, perchance, see tree damage from the tarp cordage?
200 divided by 16 is 12.5 lbs. Obviously a very simplistic answer and I'm sure there's a lot more calculations that go into it.

Agreed that perception carries the day, disagree that the choice is all about 'spin control' - Acer already gave info on tree damage.

I wouldn't think a tarp would exert anything NEAR the pressure that a hammock rigged on cordage would.
