Interesting...Might just have to give that a try sometime...
rcam, try that link again...its giving a server not found error...
OK folks, the blog post is up. Check it out at http://getoutga.wordpress.com/2013/08/02/poncho-liner-top-quilt-revisited/
Hopefully y'all find it useful. Many thanks to Dejoha for letting me...
Hey Bucs, hang tight on that...I'm planning to repost my original post on this thread on to my "Get Out!" blog and add the construction suggestions I made a few posts up and some pics from Craigthor...
Yours was about 23 oz and mine was about 16 oz. - about 7 oz difference. It didnt seem like I cut that much off but I lost some material off the sides and ends and all of the edging...but...I gained...
I'd love to see some pics! I was wondering how well it would bunch in the foot end. Given it was intended for warm weather I wasn't too concerned if it didn't close all the way.
I got mine from ThruHiker I believe...
There are a couple of things I'd change to simplify the construction process.
1. I would leave the PL its original size and shape and just remove the string ties.
2. To form the channel at...
FL, I've had the UQ down into the low 20s with a 5 oz Apex TQ and wearing mid weight thermals and heavy socks. Apex is good stuff!
Got in yet another test drive of the PLTQ over the weekend. Low was 59. Used my climashield UQ for bottom insulation and was wearing plain cotton socks, a long pair of lightweight sleep pants and a...
So I finally got a chance to give the PLTQ a proper test drive. I was a little on the cool side but not uncomfortable when I got up around 5:30 or 6:00 to answer nature's call. I checked my...
According to the 5-day we should be looking at lows in the mid to low 60s here this coming weekend so I'll definitely be giving it a try. I camped out for a couple of nights up in N. GA with lows in...
Its intended to be a 'summer' quilt...say 65-70 degrees or above...
Of course next fall I'm going to find out how low I can comfortably go with it...just because...
Just checked it - iIt fits in a 8" x 12" stuff sack with a little room to spare and could be compressed a bit further easily...
Typically there are no head holes in the liners...some folks add those later. Don't have a pack size at the moment but will get one for ya later tonight..
The PLs I see on fleabay are 82 x 62. You're fine width wise but may be a bit short in the length. Might be a good idea to make the channel that runs along the bottom a little extra wide to gain...
Thanks for chiming in DrPappy. I wear 8 1/2 shoes and have room to spare so I could only make a (probably incorrect) guess about 13s...
58"
Adjust your length according to your height. I'm 5' 8" and it comes up over my nose so I have plenty to tuck in over and around my shoulders. Some folks like to have more coverage, some like...
Wouldn't be a bad first project at all. All straight lines and straight stitch. You could actually simplify things and cut 30 to 45 minutes by hot cutting long edges of the the ripstop pieces...
Don't have a camera handy but how about a diagram?

Here are the particulars...
Width at head - 58 in.
Width at foot - 46 in. (results in a roughly 14 in. foot box)
Length - 78 in
Weight - 14.9 oz (on a digital postal scale, w/o a stuff sack)
...
I considered that but I discovered a while back the me and zippers just don't get along in a hammock...
I think that was the general idea...
I saw it not too long ago but don't recall where. Seems like it might have been one of dehoja's posts...
My template is at my office (conference tables and unused desks make great lay-out and sewing tables). I'll measure the template and toss the TQ on our postage scale in the morning...
The DIY bug bit me again this week. After making a Climashield TQ for winter hangin' I began thinking about making another TQ for summer. I liked the fleece TQ I made last year but it was a little...
