I agree on the contact theory. On the ground, just a bit of your body is in contact with the pad and you move some. In a hammock, it is wrapped around you and pulled up snug like a big foam taco.

I had a poncho made in light silnylon with shock cord channels in all four sides and used with shock cord and toggles. It is a hoodless design with a tall collar. Works great! I got a Hennessy...
I've been wanting one since first learning that hammock need insulation.
Thoughts:
*You need a differential cut and baffles
*It could be asymmetrical and wouldn't need to go to the ends for...
I've used a square of Tyvek and a rubber band, rolling it up like a burrito and also using the Tyvek for a dry clean place to put my feet when dressing, etc. A plastic pencil box or eyeglass...
The trick is to avoid "black hole" levels of compression. If your stuff sack is really a hassle, get a slightly bigger one. Do avoid using a compression sack and trying to squeeze it down rock hard....
I usually wrap them in a square of tyvek, burrito style, which is also handy to stand on when changing clothes. Add a rubber band to keep it closed. A plastic pencil box works well for a bunch. Some...
Nice work! Spring is just around the corner!
Looks like you would have to have the tarp higher to get the hammock suspension at the right angle or the hammock lines will run into the tarp. 20* is too shallow an angle.
A 4x4 is fine if the top end is secured. Amazing how noodle like they can be when standing alone. When you think about it, the weight at the tree strap is the same as your weight, sob it's not much...
If I could only have one tarp, I want a big cuben rig with fold-back doors. You could use that for ground camping as well.
I have a birthday coming up soon ;)
The R value on Reflectix isn't considering when you lie on top of it.
Don't forget the pad extender method, where you use a sleeve to hold your 20" wide ground pad with foam extensions to add...
Don't you want the ridgeline inside the net?
Of course that has nothing to do with the sag. It should tighten some with your weight, so yeah, that's weird. There were some videos on the Warbonnet...
Much better than the original stock diamond fly from Hennessy. Wind is the culprit and cat tarps do better. With any hammock tarp, you have those long edges just asking to suck up a big gust. Getting...
What was it tied to? You can tweak a small tree with your weight and it doesn't take much movement to drop you 8". I've tied off to vine maples that were like springs. It's amazing how much force you...
Damaged tent poles and thrift store/yard sale carbon golf club shafts. Good idea on the knitting needles.
I just run the ridgeline tie-outs past my hammock suspension to get the height I want for each. It hasn't made any difference to me if they touch. I run the ridge line just to the side of my hammock...

I use a couple 4x6 posts. You just need one pole, so sink it 3' deep with no concrete, pack it well and put a birdhouse on top, maybe grow a vine on it. You can dig it out later.
Dropped the price a bit. Nice wind shell!

Sold to Snrmoment and PM sent I like both these shirts, but they are just a tad short for my long torso. One is a Carhartt 100% polyester and about the same weight as Capilene 3 fabric and 8.2oz. The...

There aren't any others in production that I know of. 20f would probably be pushing it. IMHO, it's more of a summerish 3-season option by itself. It would supplement an UQ or other insulation to go...

You can use a foam pad inside the hammock. One that is 25" or so is a better choice. You can find them at places like WallyWorld and Big 5. If you already have a 20" wide pad, you can get an ENO...
Umbrellas are the ultimate breathable rain gear and great for those humid drizzly days where the choice is get wet from drizzle or get wet from sweat in your rain gear. They can be handy in camp...
I stuff :) There is a school of thought that holds that folding on the same lines will degrade the coating over time. That may be true with polyurethane coatings. Silnylon is so slippery that it can...
You can buy pads or reflectors separately from Hennesy. I did that and made an undercover.
