I have this exact same experience.
Doesn't it seem a bit expensive though?
There are two of these! Double coverage = more responses? :D
What I did was look at the options, see which one seemed the simplest to start with, and got that one. In my case, it ended up being descender rings and straps. Now i've got a second with whoopie...
Arrowhead Equipment is definitely a good place to check if you're looking for bang for buck.
Man, i'm gonna have to order one of these. My Exped pillow drives me crazy sometimes.
i got Mountain Goat sleeves, and there are pockets on the sleeves for stuffing the ridgeline and other guy lines, etc into. Pretty nifty, as everything you need is right there. I don't think there...
That $52 is an awesome price for the tarp. It's made of 75D Polyester, so a bit heavy but the coverage you get is worth it.
My first and only tarp is the kelty noah's 12x12. I think I got it for $60. It's not the lightest, but your friend being a new hanger, its benefit is its size since you don't quite know where to...
This is how mine fit as well.
Whoopieslings.com adjustable ridgeline for me. And trial by error :) That's all you really have until you figure out how things best work for you
Is the fabric quiet? I have an exped UL pillow but it's noisy as all heck which does not help sleepy time...
Kill it with cleansing fire! That's not helpful...
I don't know that you can really avoid the static buildup when you've got so many synthetic materials rubbing against each other, but i'd be...
My buddy is about the same size as you and he loves his double layer BB.
35. But yeah, I act like I'm still in my 20's. My body does not cooperate often.
Yeah, I had been waiting for a sale also because I can't stand my sleeping bag in the hammock. Maybe there will be a Thanksgiving sale :)
I second the pillow. Also, a mini binder clip is handy, and small to pack. I've got a ENO Doublenest that has the sides fall in on me sometimes, and the binder clip can keep the extra fabric rolled...
being a warm sleeper, the 20 degree UQ with a full 20 degree sleeping bag on top of me makes me sweat all night. And the head spot sticks up in my face, which makes it annoying. Next trip out i'm...
It all depends on who you're going with and where the trees are! Usually you try and get away from people, but even if you're backpacking you can't always do that. That's the best benefit of the...
Dangit, I totally missed the ball on this
Sorry guys, I didn't really look at anything besides $20 for 6 of them, but it immediately made me think of the DIY'ers here. Also, you don't need to have a membership at SG to buy from them, it...
48"x72", 6 pack for $20
from the site:
Half dozen "shields" keep pesky blood-suckers away! Get this 6-Pk. of fine Netting to ward off insects of all types, especially mosquitos carrying the...
Since most tent poles have the ends that fit into grommets, why don't you sew some loops on each end of a piece of webbing and stick a grommet in the middle? then you can lash one end out and the...
Ok, that is awesome, thanks! I haven't learned the clove hitch yet, but i'm sure that will change in the next 10 minutes or so :) Appreciate the pics, thanks a lot!
Here's the link:

Get the Warbonnet Traveler Bug Net. It costs the same, but its less than half the weight of the ENO. And like 1/3 the weight of the HammockBliss.
Thanks man :) I'm definitely more of a visual learner.
I think I get it, I'll have to try it out on the next trip - thanks!
I've seen people use inverted hiking poles to set up a porch? I tried looking at that using mine, but it didn't seem like it would be stable. Anyone have tips on setting that up?
I love my double. The extra fabric on the sides ends up in my face, and it bothered me for about 2 minutes. Then I fell asleep. I'm 6', 195 lbs.
I totally lucked out with a good shape Bernina 807 from someone in my wife's family. (It just appeared one day)
Now I just have to learn how to use it!
no worries :)
since each of the sides are 12 ft., the diagonal will be longer between the two opposing corners. if you take the Pythagorean Theorem and do the:
a^2 + b^2 = c^2
...
The Kelty Noah tarps are cat cut also. The 12 is huge. I think it has a 17' ridgeline IF you are pitching it as a diamond. The 12 is 2 lb. 1 oz.

I just ordered a bunch of stuff from Quest Outfitters, they were really quick to ship. Their 1.9 oz. ripstop prices aren't bad.

Thanks! Says it has taped seams. I haven't used it in the rain, so all it's had on it is morning dew, but under the tarp I was completely dry. I believe it has more than one seam going diagonal...
It's coated polyester taffeta. It's not horribly heavy (to me), but will probably be like carrying an anvil for the gram counters. I got it from Sunny Sports (I forget who, but someone else linked...
How did those ball bungees work out for tensioning the tarp?
Ya, sorry for hijacking the thread though
I've got a Kelty 12 also. Just got back from Yosemite with my Kelty and my Doublenest. It was rough. not really. It is a huge tarp though, so keep thank in mind when you're picking your trees :)...
i had to do the same thing this past weekend. i took my #1 s-biners and clipped them up to my tarp line but i also used the attached ropes to hang the ends up higher on the tree.
shot them an email today and received a response within a half hour or so. pretty sweet response time.
mmm, excellent! my warbonnet net will help me out :)
yeah, SLO County is hard to be beat in terms of overall gorgeousness :) I came down here in 95 to go to school and haven't left since.
