Just a little FYI:
Parctical Backpacking puts out a series of informational podcasts, and one of these was solely on the GoLite Ultra 20. Not sure, but I think its pretty old. However, it is...
I just wanted to echo what everyone else said...hilarious!
And some good info too.
I know this will sort of be a very opinion rich thread, but I'm looking for all kinds of input. I am trying to figure out what to do about an underquilt (make or buy). So, what is your favorite UQ?...
does cacoon = shoulder squeeze in this situation?
gotta get some more line and rings to do this. Great write up HC4U!
Yeah you could get bit, but you got it bad if it looked like a rash.
might go out to some woods (more than likely the back yard at my new house) and "hang out" one night. Other than that, I'm working on a backpack that will be able to hold some of my DSLR supplies. ...
I guess I'm missing something. Why are they good when applied to backpacking/camping?
hey javaman,
Does your dehydrator have variable heat settings? I've always heard that this is important.
When I first started sewing, I had this problem. I was making a few mistakes. I was using double sided tape to hold the pieces of fabric together. This was making the needle sticky so that the...
Haha, I like the "bear bell" idea. Although, some people will tell you bear bells would be more accurately refered to as dinner bells.
I've done boiled water, heat packs, and warm rocks. They all work, some ideas are better than others. I personally use the heat packs if anything at all. Put them in you bag after some serious (I...
light wins out over easy with me. as long as the loops will work then the weight savings is worth the little bit of extra work.
sorry, I miss spoke. I thought this setup had a prusik knot in it. But I think I'm going to try this setup, but try to find some rings lighter than .1 lb per ring. I'll also replace the caribiner...
so would my easiest and lightest option be using rings with a prasik (sp?) knot at on end, and straps going through the other side of the rings?
I guess I'm turning this into a full on "what does my suspension need to be" thread.
With that in mind, is there anything lighter than the tri-glides that I can use. And what is this I read about...
So, I'll probably go with the Am Steel blue (sp?), but i guess I wasn't clear about wanting the lightest straps that'll hold my weight that would work for a hammock. Also, is 6g/ft sounds light, but...
Also, is there any use for this type of cordage. It is super light and I'm one of those type...I haven't figured out yet if I can't carry a heavy load (only tried once) or won't :D!
Whats the...
Thanks guys
And war,
I checked the figure 9 thread and saw some of the things that people did to the 9s. It was nothing short of amazing. However, I have to admit that I didn't read all 64...
First off let me appologize for the redundancy of this post, but I really do need help with this. I've searched and read hundreds of posts, but there are as many types of line that I could use for a...
I slept on night in mine already, and no sign of wear. I'm about 190 so I'm no light load. RamblinRev, my hooks attach to the hammock like yours do. Do the ones that began to fail look like...
I just (a couple of months ago) finished my first tarp. I didn't really want to do it because of the horror stories I heard from people about sewing the thing. However, I didn't really run into any...
I guess you would say that I'm still new to sewing. I've been making gear for about a year and a half, but only sewing for about 8 month. However, I've been surprised at how easy some projects have...
This hammock tent is just to heavy for me.
These are some tents, some that I have some that I don't, which have weights less than this shelter:
Marmot Eos 1P
Henry Shires Tarptents
TNF Solo...
oh yeah, make mine a large. :D
Dang! Everything has already been talked about on here! haha thanks hc4u I'll give it a go (I knew there was something I was forgetting)
Has anyone ever used these? They say you can use them on a hammock or a tarp. They might be a way to lighten your suspension. Just a thought.
Looks like the link is dead. Try copy and pasting...
I had a "100%" polyester fleece jacket. It is a soft shell type jacket with some kind of fleece in the lining. It is old now and I've washed it many times, and its starting to look like bubble...
Count me in...Let me know when the time to buy will be. Will the shipping still be the standard price since they will be going to different places?
deadline if fine with me...hopefully I'll get to try it out on two trips by then. Also, I've gotten my hammock.
I'm reviewing the ATHH.
get the old one
Awesome. Did the ATHH get a good review?
well as long as no hammocks got hurt in the shooting. Glad the two guys lived too!
real nice. That jacket looks awesome!
I to got mine yesterday, and I have to say, even with the problems that kept them from being sold, I really like it! I hung mine last night and did a little late night reading in it, and I was able...
wahoo! I hope to get there someday. Is it as much fun as I imagine it being?...haha! Happy Birthday!
Hammock is in! I had my hammock mailed to my parents house (because I live in the ghetto), and my dad just called and told me it was there! I know what I'm doing tonight. By the way. Did we ever...
he told me he'd be sending me the hammock with an address to send six dollars for the shipping.
I was contacted a couple of days ago. He said that he would be sending the hammock in the next couple of days.
heescha, the first time I went, I was young and very inexperienced. I went with a friend who knew even less than I did. We just stayed on the trail, and didn't do anything stupid. Also, something...
I agree hooch. I've had to do some fancy manuvering to get into mine. I just love my bag to much to let it go. I guess I'll have to get up the courage and know how to do one on my own. heescha,...
So, in reading all of this, the process seems like it is kind of easy. Am I wrong?
What kind of stand/surface are you guys using when laying out the fabric to wipe off the excess. I know if I just put it on a garage floor, I'd have crap all over my tarp. Is maybe a clothes line...
Get some of the other. Believe it or not I used the hight strength (I think it was about 235lb strength) to hold my 190lb butt up when I first started hammocking. I by no means advise this, but it...
I'm looking for plans to make a backyard hammock stand. I've seen Risk's, and while it looks sturdy, I'm not completely sold on his idea. Are there any other plans out there that are similar...
I think a good ole fashion arkansas hanging would be in order.
ramblinrev,
I 've had the same problems with self inflating pads. The ccf pads seem to work better because they seem to have a little more ruberiness (word?) to them and they grip the hammock...
I can't get the pics to work, but I think Just Jeff has something similar to this (on a little larger scale) on his site.
Just go with whatever your buddies make fun of you for. My friends call me MacGyver because my hair always looks bad (thats why I cut it all off), and I'm always trying to make something.
