I'll see what's going on that weekend (if I'm free or have my kids who are dubious about camping right now). Looks fun!

I'll see what's going on that weekend (if I'm free or have my kids who are dubious about camping right now). Looks fun!
Would love to be there. Of course there's a conflict. Have much fun!
Unfortunately, I must bow out of this adventure. I managed to re-sprain my ankle and can barely walk on level ground. Have a great time and I look forward to the trip report!
I stopped by the parking lot and there is currently about four inches of snow on the unplowed lot. Based on the current forecast for Curran, Michigan, I don't think there will be more than an...
It is possible we might still need snow shoes too if we get more snow then predicted . Maybe Vulture can check it out Wed .[/QUOTE]
I'll let you know for sure, but based on what I'm seeing and...
1) Underground Quilts are awesome and the owner is a straight up great guy. I highly recommend them. 2) I drive by Hoist Lakes every day. There is currently snow covering all the ground, but only 3...
There is no snow up here. A dusting of it in the woods in places. Ice? Not enough to cool your drink. It's been nonstop overcast and averaging upper 30s. So right now it's not very Wintery up...
I drive by Hoist Lakes every day for work now. Should be no problem giving site reports.
I might also bring chili for Saturday, since I usually can't make it until very late Friday. Good way to stay warm.
I noticed that there is no cel phone service (for Verizon at least) from the West entrance, but is likely from the East. So if you get lost, you're on your own.
I stopped by the West entrance today. Winter gave us a little tease today.

How and what are the best ways to post photos and videos on HF? I have a photo on my iPhone I'd like to post.
Hope to make this one, will schedule it in. Likely a late Friday arrival. Thanks for starting this Stone!
eau de Shug! enough said! lol
I really doubt it. I'm not much a a fisherman, but I'd steer you elsewhere.
There is gold in experienced trip reports! Thank you.
Enjoyed lollygagging around watching your adventures in lollygagging! Thank you Hickery Brothers!
Excellent video and trip report! Thanks for the laughs and taking us along! Looking like I need to get a quilt protector.
I still mentioned this trip to several people at the chili hang. I still have 5 quarts of chili in the freezer!
I'm quite excited as this weekend gets closer! But my Traverse is shuddering and cruise control keeps shutting off, not to mention I'm driving around with a nail in my tire they said can't be...
I'll see if I can make it this year. Count me in as very likely. :)
I've been remembering and thinking about the Great Lost Chili from last year! Really looking forward to it! :)
Pictured Rocks! Hoist Lakes.
Looks like a very pleasant outing. Congratulations, and thank you for sharing.
Welcome to HF from Alpena!

Welcome to HF!
Loving the trip reports and videos!! Looks like a blast! I enjoyed my weekend catching up with my kids. I look forward to hanging and meeting you all when I can.
I don't think I can get a direct look at the West Hoist Lakes lot in the next couple days. I can tell you there isn't all that much snow, really. It's cold and powdery now, but I'm seeing that this...
I hear water tastes better and it's easier if you add snow to a little liquid water as you melt it. I wouldn't know, though.
My grandassistant and I went down to the pond yesterday to see how...
I use intellicast.com mostly.
Nice video and instructive! Any night in the woods is good (if you're prepared).
I stopped by the East parking lot to Hoist Lakes today. It was well plowed. There is just over a foot of dry snow on the ground, with evidence/paths of hikers leading in, but no pulks. It's very...
As i live up there, I'd expect at least knee, more likely thigh high snow of varying powder/crusty layers. I'll give an eyewitness report within a week prior to this trip.
I'll try to drive the West lot road then and provide a report.
I live in Alpena and drive by Hoist Lakes daily on my way to work. Never dealt with serious Winter camping yet, but this outing is on my radar also.
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing you trip.
I think it is telling that no hammock camper has fallen victim to lightning as far as we've heard. My 1 cent.
Perhaps look into Hoist Lakes, High Country Pathway, and North Country Trail in Northern Lower Michigan. We've had some Winter Hangs at Ludington State Park that has trails for snowshoeing (should...
I don't remember who you are, but I'd encourage you to give at least part of this loop (Manistee River Trail is much easier) a try unless you are truly out of shape.
I'm being easily swayed. You guys will have quite the climb to finish your trip Sunday, if I remember correctly.
Jealous as I love this loop! But I'll have to opt to continue my more leisurely outdoor adventures elsewhere. I wouldn't arrive to hike until very late Friday night. Have a blast!!
TZBrown... Was that 5/8" mule tape?
I had so much fun, and feel so lucky to have enjoyed this weekend with you wonderful group of adventurers! I'm sorry I missed Friday night (and for waking anyone at 3:15 am). The Mountain Man...
Check out Shingle Mill Pathway for an easier weekend loop. Not as nice as MRT/NCT, but worth a consideration.
I'll be there to make a Mountain Man Breakfast hell or high-water! But it's been an uber busy week so I might show just in time to make it.
I will cook at home and reheat on site. My adventure will be the Mountain Man Breakfast preprepped but made on site. Chili is best reheated anyhow.
