Having sampled quite a number of ciders that day I'd like to recommend "Lulworth Skipper" to anybody who has the opportunity to try it.
Quick trip to the south coast with a chance to try out my new under quilt made from a horrible old puke green sleeping bag. Other equipment - square silnylon tarp, DD Hammock and Snugpak Elite bag.

Well it's a good idea because the electrolytes are more balanced osmotically but I doubt it's mitigating lactic acid in the blood stream, blood pH is quite tightly controlled by the body - mainly...
Apricots contain a lot of potassium too - dried ones make a tasty snack and are easily stored and transported.
Although as others have pointed out, a little salt and a lot of water are often...
Thanks for posting this - another idea I hadn't thought of.
An under quilt for your first hang? Don't you know you're supposed to suffer for your first dozen or so hangs so you can properly appreciate the luxury?
Amazing scenery.
The smell of DEET will just help the little buggers to find you. The only thing that works is Avon Skin-so-soft Dry Body Oil...
I've never had a camping tarp rip but my experience with sailing, etc, tells me that a tarp will most likely rip at the attachment points long before a seam will rip open.
What no pictures? Can't believe you wasted your time helping emergency services and rescuing the injured instead of taking the time to snap a few photos.
I never sleep well my first night in a hammock but subsequent nights are no problem - guess I just need time to adjust. Probably why I don't do many one nighters.
I did find it amusing to speculate on how high in the air he would have been propelled.
We did visit Latvia and spent some time looking around Riga we just didn't spend the night there.
Thought Riga was great, especially the big market by the station, unfortunately we didn't have...
Lots of pictures but everybody always says they like pictures so I hope this isn't over the top.
I have a friend who's partner is from Estonia so when he bought some new furniture she wanted him...
I'm planning a trip to Northern Italy for spring / early summer this year. Looking for recommendations of hammock friendly campsites, good guerilla spots, places to visit, etc. I'm also planning on...
If ordinary whipping keeps coming undone try sailmaker's whipping it's very strong.
FYI;
I believe that the name Penberthy Prussic is probably a joke referring to a Cornish comedian by the name of Jethro who tells lots of stories about the stupidity of his mate (chum in...
When a rope (etc) is wrapped around an object the resistance due to friction increases exponentially with the angle subtending the arc of contact. How much that actually is of course depends on the...
Looks like a slipped version of the figure eight loop: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Figure-eight_loop
Fenix L2D and diffuser tip.
All your lighting needs for a whole week in a package barely larger than the two aa batteries it takes - amazing.
I'd love to meet up for a weekend in the summer could I suggest a campsite like this: http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/articles/view.asp?id=4 I'm sure many would be happy to accommodate us if we explained...
Decided I wanted to sleep in a hammock at home as well as when out camping so I made this hammock. Material was 4m of this...
Tricams are small, light and just a few can cover an very wide range of placements. Plus they've another level of flexibility in that you can use them like nuts. Two or three of the smaller ones...
Conditions:
This is my first hammock and I've now used the DD for a three week trip through Europe and a five day walk along the North Norfolk Coastal Path. The European trip was from Belgium...
It's not so much about the thickness of rope as about the breaking strain.
For a start you should automatically double any load for safety's sake, so if you're looking at a load of 235lb your safe...
Be fair Wendigo, it is the UK bushcraft forum so it's natural to make comparisons.
It's been on UK tv for a few weeks now.
It's easy to be an armchair expert but he didn't do well as far as I could see. Seemed to spend most of his time in tears - really quite tiresome to watch...
You could try hanging from rocks using climbing equipment (nuts, friends, etc). I've never needed to do it but I have a couple of small tricams I carry just in case.
Aluminium oxidizes very readily - so readily that any aluminium object will form a coating of aluminium oxide almost instantly in air. All your aluminium equipment is thus already coated by an...
Thanks for the input guys. Unfortunately the only conclusion it helped me reach was that I need to get some more experience and think through exactly what I want/need more carefully.
New tarp on...
Actually living in Truro now "Trewornan" has been a nomme de plume for years.
I was just wondering what peoples tarp preferences are, do you like big tarps, small, square, hex or rectangular, silnylon?
My first trip I bought a very cheap polyethylene tarp which was 3.5m...
Sorry Mustardman but you've forgotten the human factor.
For example, I used to know an ex-fisherman from Penryn (unfortunately he's dead now, he was about eighty when I knew him) who could sniff...
I disagree with most of the comments here. I wouldn't let personality get in the way of a business decision - I've often worked with, dealt with suppliers, etc, who have questionable personality...
Well my friend just sent me some pictures unfortunately only one shows the hammock but he says he's got more, he just hasn't got round to sending them yet.
Anyway here's a picture of me packing...
Yes a warning to anyone who's thinking of visiting Bosnia or Kosovo - stay on the beaten track and don't try camping wild, stick to official campsites. We were warned but it really came home to us...
All great places, although Switzerland was hideously expensive - even more so than the UK and that's saying something.
But there was one country which stood out above all the others - I'm...
Not sure I agree entirely with that but I suppose if you've got to lose your camera somewhere then on the beach south of Thessalonika after a long swim in the Aegean, ain't a bad choice.

Unfortunately I lost my camera in Greece but my friend took some pictures with his mobile phone so hopefully I'll be able to post some when he gets round to them.
I'm a confirmed hanger now!
A friend and I decided to go on a camping tour of Europe this summer and we just got back a few days ago after a three week trip. I saw Ray Mears using a hammock on television and thought it might be...
