Closing this thread and relisting the Blackbird by itself for clarity.
All three items are potentially headed to new homes. Just waiting for money to move along the interweb tubes.
The Blackbird is still available, but it is not the XLC.
The color is olive green.
Everything still available. Anyone in need of this great gear?
I have too many hammocks!!
So, I'm selling a few things.
First) Warbonnet Blackbird 1.7DL with straps and buckles and Dutchware original Dutch clips
$140
Second) AHE Bear Burrito Oven
$55...
So, I've been reading in the interwebs, And it seems that most early problems were about leaks.
i can't see an leaks when the pot is just sitting filled with water.
but I had noticed some moisture...
Never had an alcohol burner.
I have an original run backcountry boiler for sale. I've only fired it up twice. Both times, I struggled to keep the fire hot enough. I can't figure out why.
I should have sold it right away,...
Gargoyle,
Why are you against anchoring to the walls?
My concern about the purlins was that the bottom lip would twist/bend.
No matter the scenario, I will have to fabricate custom brackets...
I would like to avoid stands because I want the floor space clear when we're not sleeping.
The walls are poured concrete. Each wythe has an embedded rebar grid.
As for the load-bearing: each...
Howdy, y'all. Long time, no talk! My kiddos keep me too busy for much hammock camping these days. Hopefully as they get older, I can get them to hang in the woods, too.
Getting to my questions...
Well, I really thought I was gonna make this one.
But the sister-in-law and her kids are descending on us tomorrow. She hemmed and hawed about her arrival and then picked the worst time for my...
I was planning to head down for a short visit this evening, but my 10-month-old's change of sleep schedule killed that plan. :(
Hope y'all are having fun.
I used to own two.
The pockets work, but not that well.
At least, in my experience, they did not provide adequate warmth in below freezing temperatures . . . even when I filled them with gear. My...
That doesn't put the tarp too close to the netting for your taste?
Any news on when the BMBH will be available again? I'm tempted to pick up the new, improved model to give the bridge another try.
Glad it helped you out.
Enjoy the Clark!! :D
Sorry for the confusion.
The sheetrock is already up. Those pictures above are from several months ago.
Here are some more recent pics of that bedroom:...
Here's a shot of the facade wall studs in front of the concrete.

And here's a shot in one part of that...
Most places, it's less than 2 inches.
For my situation, this would still call for some reinforcements behind the drywall.
But that's a cool idea. I like it.
That was one of my concerns. If I went from purlin to purlin or from purlin to wall, obviously there's some lateral stress on the purlin.
And that's the part that makes me nervous.
Yeah, but then I've got a giant stand taking up room somewhere.
I'd love to just have some tucked-out-of-the-way hooks/brackets.
There are some exposed steel I-beam columns in the living room...
So, my wife and I are about to move into our new home.
We've been building this place for more than 6 years now.
Granted 3+ years were spent in a legal battle with our original contractor.
And...
So, next question:
Where's the magic compromise for canvas weight/thickness?
Thin enough to not weigh 10#, but thick enough to block wind/trap heat.
So, with this information in mind, what are the best methods to keep yourself warm AND travel light a)on your person? and b)for hammocking?
I've been eyeballing the anoraks and such from Empire...
I haven't really posted or seen my hammock in months.
But I was with you guys in spirit. :D
One of these days I'll be able to get back out for some hangs.
Mostly posting so that I can be...
Howdy!
I'm just out past Athens Tech.
Not for long though. We'll be putting this house on the market in the next month or so. Woot!!
But even though we're probably about 10 minutes apart,...
Here ya go, pre-Clark solution.
Yeah, you're definitely making me envious, Chris.
I'm on diaper duty and you're out doing all of my favorite things. :(
Have fun. And stay safe.
It's funny: a friend of mine from high school posted some photos from her trip there. I can see some of the same people in her photos from across the way that are in your video, standing near you...
How much longer until your kit arrives?
Macaroni,
How do you recommend packing the IX UQs: stuff? roll? fold?
My IX UQs showed up today.
I'm gonna take 'em to the mountains this weekend.
BTW, excellent packaging: a custom-stitched tyvek envelope.
Oh, yes, this place will definitely help separate you from your money.
Wait a minute.
Is this who I think it is?
If so, you should have come to check out my setup at the Rendezvous....
Can't wait for my WBBB IX UQ!!:D
Nah, I realized that I was trying to schedule it at the same time as Neo's hang, which just seemed rude. :(
But I'm gonna head up there Sunday through Wednesday, I think.
How was Linville...
Well, crap.
I just noticed that Neo's TN hang is that same weekend.
Guess this should be set for some other time.
It's all good.
I figure this will be a slowly evolving semi-annual event. :D
Just a few folks the first time.
A few more folks the next time.
And so on.
I'm just trying to squeeze this one...
Alrighty.
If we don't just do this thing . . . it may be next year before it happens.
When we talked at Hot Springs, several of you guys expressed a willingness to come up and help clear the...
Finally caught one of these puppies that I've been hearing.

Double fisherman's bend.
I finally moved when I thought my DriDucks poncho was getting softer. :D

Just thought I'd update here.
I swapped to a full ridgeline for the tarp.
And tried the new setup this weekend at HotSprings. Unfortunately, the prussiks wouldn't hold on the slippery line.
...
Here's the one that should be your avatar.

I bet he's got some muscles.
I had a great time at the hang. Good talking to familiar folks and meeting new ones!
AND I managed to time all of my motorcycle riding to avoid the rain!
Today was a beautiful day for my ride...
I'm just gonna hope for isolated showers and ride the motorcycle.
I'll be leaving in about an hour. And if I wander over some backroads to get there, I should arrive around 4:30 or so.
You guys are hysterical. :D
BTW, looks like the entire First Family will be vacationing in Asheville this weekend. I wonder what that will do for traffic getting through town.
If the weather...
