Point well taken about the larks head. Tie it around a small enough radius, whether cordage or solid object, and it will likely weaken the rope at that knot.

I'd tell OP to go ahead and use knots in the Amsteel. Just de-rate it by 50%.
That means he'll be paying $.50 - $.60 /ft.
Or, he can use standard cordage, same as everyone on the water uses. ...
