Count me in!
DavyRay,
You are correct that the patch is attached just on the perimeter. The problem with putting a seam sealer on the inside is that there is a cotton lining on the inside of the jacket.
And...
It does, but when there's driving rain, it goes straight through the seams, mostly at the corners.
Here's a pic

The patch takes up the entire back of the jacket. There's nylon underneath it, so I'm not too worried about sealing the entire patch, just the seam.
From the types I've seen, there two different ripstop patterns. There's a square pattern with right angles, and there's a diamond pattern with 60*/120* angles.
It doesn't really matter how you...
I'm in for sure!
I have a shell that I just got, but it wasn't intended for serious outdoor use. It is some kind of water-resistant nylon that has a huge cotton embroidered patch on the back of it. The jacket works...
Most tarps with doors are actually cut so that the bottom edge of the tarp is longer than the ridgeline. With the right combination of tie-outs and cat cuts, the extra material forms the door.
I...
I know a lot of people think that UQ warmth is more important than TQ warmth. In summer weather (lows of 60), I'll sometimes use a 20* UQ on the bottom and nothing on top.
My philosophy, however,...
That's a very similar setup to what I have, except I use mostly paracord and 3/32" drawcord. It is a good setup, and I was able to transition from a diamond to a rectangular tarp in about 5 minutes....
My longest was 25' or so. It was across a deserted one lane gravel road. There was a very skinny tree on one side and a large embankment on the other. To string up the hammock, I ran up the...
That seems like it would work. I remember seeing a guy who used a piece of driftwood just like that to hang his hammock. You shouldn't have any problems.
Hi guys,
Does anyone know if the campsites at Carolina Beach State park are hammock-compatible?
How dare you call me a LANDlubber! I'm a treelubber :D;)
Good luck to you. Your username may become even more true soon. Louisiana hurricane tip: scrub down your bathtub, and fill it with potable water. If you aren't going anywhere, its a good 3-4 days of...
The YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly is set up a lot like a boy scout camp. It's on a large plot of land with a bunch of trails and climbing walls (there's even a challenge course).
It was at the YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly. They're "High Windy" trail. It's just one of those that you walk up to the trailhead about .3mi from the hotel. Very convenient.
Hey guys,
This is a belated report, but back in July, I was at a conference and had a three-hour break, so of course my first thought was "Go for a hike!".
I checked the map, and there was one...
Maybe a Dri-Ducks space blanket.
For your first issue: the bugs. You should be fine with all the citronella and stuff. I don't have a bug net either, and I've been fine with a lot less than that. Instead of buying clip-on stuff,...
CRL stands for Continuous Ridgeline.
My general rule is that your CRL should equal your total suspension length. So SRL+Fully extended whoopies+tree straps = CRL
Welcome from Mount Airy! I was at Mac's house, too.
I worked at CRK a few years ago, and in that back section, I think it is uphill both ways to the dining hall.
I also went to Boxwell. I love the waterfront there!
I'll go through your post a little at a time.
First, I made that same decision. UQs are much more comfortable, pack smaller, and weigh less than pads.
Second, your condensation was likely...
There are plenty of trees there! :D
I haven't been to any of the campsites, but while rock climbing there, its easy enough to find a couple of trees nearby.
Hey convertee!
I'm in about the same position as you. 17, 6'3", with no job. I've learned that if you convert a few friends, it really helps. I paired up with one friend to buy DIY supplies, and...
PM incoming on jacket.
Sold awaiting payment!
Normally synthetic insulation comes quilted, or in a sheet. Therefore, you wouldn't really need baffles. At least, I didn't put baffles in mine.
Good Luck!
Hey guys,
I'm selling my Clark Ultralight. It's a great hammock, but it's just too small for me.
Everything is standard/stock. There are no problems, blemishes, or wear.
Selling for $160....
Instead of looking at diameter, look at circumference. Set up the tarp as it would be in the snake skin and wrap a string around the rolled up tarp at each end and the middle. That gets your...
If none of that works, just fill the bowl with hot water, let it sit for a few minutes, then empty it and pour in some liquid nitrogen. It might not do anything, but it's a lot of fun!
Don't worry, I do the same thing. When I roll over I even switch diagonals!:D
When I joined last semester, I had a teacher who could be described as eccentric. The class was computational chemistry, and the only way to succeed was to "Be like Bob."
My guess would be that if you doubled up like that, only 1/2 the force would be on each strap, so they would stretch half as much.
However, if you used that on one end and poly on the other, you...
I'm from Louisiana, so whenever I hear people talking about their oil, I jump in and comment on that "awl".
Similarly, when I hear people say New Orleans, New Orleens, or even New Orlee-ans, I...
I'm taking Kallorne's knife, stove, and figure 9 offer, and to pay it forward...
A pair of walkie talkies.

They come with a wall plug charger.
My PIF rules are simple:
Do you have a picture of that knife?
Since I girth hitch my headlamp to my ridgeline, I have just gathered up the shock cord and girth hitched it to the ridgeline. Works almost like a prussic.
I can't speak to the effectiveness of the hammock, but I can speak for the strength of the knot.
One time I was waterskiing, and the rope snapped. We didn't want to stop, so I tied the two halves...
I don't know...just think of the diagonal!
just think of the required sag :scared:
That's not pretty long at all. By many standards, that's a very short hammock. I just finished making a DIY hammock out of 4 yards of fabric (and it's verrry nice).
I think it's enlightened equipment, but I'm not sure.
I got the flint and steel from SamD. My PIF is...

First PM gets the PIF

A UL Mayan hammock. It...
I use paracord for my ridgeline, and I have a carabiner attached to a loop at one end, and I wrap that around the tree and clip it to the ridgeline.
On the other end, I have a figure 9. Simple as...
Dang!!
You live in the Triad, you have family in WI; it sounds like me!
I really appreciate the sentiment, except for the fact that it snowed in NC today...
I would want to see that tried. The only problem that I can think of is that IX required an air gap to insulate properly, and when wearing it, it would be tough to maintain that air gap.
Of...
