I wouldn't think so, those ropes aren't very abrasive as they have to be able to slide around on deck hardware easily.

You wouldn't have to use really thin stuff, but something much thinner than what is being used now. Then just go from the exiting rope to the rings with the thinner cord.

I'm not sure that would work as your rings aren't on top of each other. It may tighten up when you get in there, but I would do so very slowly and with the expectation that you are going to go to...
I think that both those hammocks use nylon straps which are prone to stretching.
