Sounds good to me! 6 hours of driving doesn't bother me!!!
Who else is in?

Hi Folks
I had a pleasant but brief hike with a quick overnight. I parked at the trailhead for the Edith pass trail with every intention of doing a 3 day 2 night trip to Mystic Lake.
The...
Right now I just put it all in one bag with the hammock (Nano 7) but when things start getting wet, I'm thinking a detachable suspension via Dutch whoopie hooks will come in handy. Then I think my...
Where are my BC and Edmonton brothers and sisters on this one? Surely someone has a good idea for a gathering of the clan, so to speak?

If I didn't have a new one from HG winging its way to me via USPS at this very moment, I'd be all over this.

Hey there shadow....I'll be that guy and ask anyways....Do they have trees in Nebraska?

Folks
Looks like I'll be heading out by myself again. After a fair bit of consideration, I think I'll be headed to Mystic Lake (51°16'42" North and 115°44'56" West) to see what there is to...
I imagine I can find a nice fuscia and turquois floral print at the thrift shop that could be transformed into a very....ah....special hammock. But I guess that would be considered cheating. :)

Since I've gotten no response to the Easter Weekend in Banff, I'm guessing we have to start planning further out....
So, I'm open to going anywhere in Alberta or interior BC for the May 24...
I don't understand what this phobia so many hangers have towards knots! While I admit that Dutchware is seductive enough that I have some on order, I use a few knots for my hang setups in...
Hi Folks
I'm going to be hitting Banff National Park for a 3 day/2 night trip over the Easter Weekend and was wondering if anyone out there is interested in joining me.
Exact route has yet to...
I'm pretty certain these mule deer are part of the "herd" that spends time in the village of Waterton. There are bighorn sheep that winter in the village.
Because Alberta doesn't use salt on the...
HG Phoenix 0 deg F. Because I put the hammock through the gathered foot end of my enLightened RevX 0 deg F, I get full length down underneath. If it were colder than 0 deg F I'd put my down parka...

Hope it turns out well for you and that you have as much fun making it as you will using it.

Hi Folks
Just wanted to share a couple of videos from my most recent trip. I hope you enjoy them.
This was a solo 3 day/2 night trip into Waterton Lakes National Park. Total distance covered...
Here are a few photos from my "spring" trip in Waterton Lakes National Park.

Hi from Medicine Hat. With family in Timmins, when I was in Petawawa I would drive through Temagami a few times a year but I spent most of my time in the Eastern portion of Algonquin park,...

I am familiar with the GT Nano 7. The hammock body alone weighs 4.83oz. I'm about your size and I find the Nano 7 a bit on the small size without much flat diagonal available, but it is...
Gee, there are affordable places to stay with a great view in Bangkok?! This opens up some other interesting possibilities for urban guerrilla hanging.

I'm thinking I'll try what's available first, and then decide if there is a need for custom webbing. Like many ultralight applications, we may find that current materials offer...
My order from Redden just arrived. I've been a busy little bee replacing the suspension on my Nano 7 just in time for a few nights of backpacking. Now I have an ASR and two UCR's plus some...

What is the weight of 3/4" mule tape per foot? I'm not sure how multiple strips would be for distributing the weight evenly across the back of the tree. Also, I am under the impression...

Like I said, the trees I hang from are no less than 6" and no more than 12". Yes, there are places I go where trees are bigger or smaller but I don't hang there. Also, if I ever did go...

I don't think a chafe guard would spread the force evenly enough to protect the tree. It would also be heavier than the 1" webbing that many people use.

Of course, the other great thing about a hammock and tarp is how quickly you can have a comfortable bed on the road. If webbing suspension works for you then good on ya'. HYOH.

You are correct, trees are pretty tough, but it varies by species, climate and pests. By virtue of the fact that they are parks, tolerance to damage is lower than it is in a managed stand of...
I'm with Owl on this one; its the width that's important (provided a safe load handling rating is maintained). Narrow tapes like Mule tape, while light weight, do the opposite of what I am trying to...

I appreciate your point and I do not think it rude. There are many more factors besides webbing length that contribute to damage to trees by hangers.
Is the webbing polyester, polypro or...
They are half price during Hennessey's spring sale. $80 or so....

Hi Walker
Glacier Nat'l Park is an International sister park to Waterton Lakes Nat'l Park to the north. I've spent a fair bit of time in Waterton and will be headed there for a 5 day trip in a...
Great report! But I have to ask, why would you want to backpack in a kilt, even a thrifty kilt?
Now I've worn a kilt for formal occasions like a Burns' Dinner but they were traditional, heavy...
I would like to know which will be lighter for a given adjustment range....and I intend to find out as soon as my Amsteel gets here.

Welcome. This is turning out to be a great place to learn from others. It would also seem to be a good place to meet potential new hiking partners too.
Hope to run into you...
I use Ti shepherd hooks from various sources. I haven't tried them yet but I have some more on order from Lawson's. Can't beat their price for Ti.
If the ground is sandy or there is deep snow I...
Mine comes from my early days of outdoor activity in Northern Ontario. I grew up hunting and fishing with my father. I learned all I could about woodsmanship or what is now often called bushcraft. ...
To those who have made M50 and M90 gathered end tarps, how heavy are they or, better yet, what length and width of fabric did you use?

Bubba also has a picture from a hang in Algonquin Provincial Park that showed a camo cuben fiber tarp. Perhaps he could speak to who did it and how it was done.

Hey Folks
Thanks for the welcome. As you may have figured out from some of my other posts, I'm not one to sit back and let others have all the fun.
Hope to run into you along the road...

I had considered doing that but I'm concerned that someone might not take kindly to me

How does one calculate the compression forces on the spreader bars of a bridge hammock?
I'm interested in designing, building and testing out a minimalist bridge hammock to see how...

How about recovered seat belt webbing from a scrapyard? I bet you could pick up a car's worth for a dollar or two.
Webbing is too heavy, even 1" polyester at 8g per foot. Why would I use 15' of webbing at over a quarter pound when I could be using a single strand of something like Dynaglide at 9g for the same 15...
Hi Folks
To date I've only used the 1" webbing that came with my HH Hyperlite. Most of the trees I use for anchors allow two wraps of the webbing around the tree which makes for a very secure...
