I'm in the UK (for now). Live in south Lincolnshire currently but, as some of the members here know I'm looking at a big move rather soon.
I would love to go, it's maybe a bit too short notice with work and stuff, seeing as it's an 8 hour round trip I would need a recover day and a day to get ready! Lol.
Will see what I can do though....
I believe I no longer have to worry about spending my money as it seems the wife has spent it all on new glasses and contact lenses. Haha.
The bits I want will have to wait until my birthday then...
I decided to save some money for a short period of time and go to sleep! Haha.
Looking at the incubator 20, burrow 20, and the standard cuben fibre tarp with doors all from Hammock Gear of course....
I'm currently fighting the urge to spend way too much money (the prices are good, I'm just greedy and want it all at once!) on a new top quilt, underquilt and a lovely cuben fibre tarp!
Someone...
Graphene is a fantastic discovery, it's basically graphite (pencil lead) but thinned over and over until it's 1 atom thick. It forms in perfect hexagons making it extremely strong.
It is also...
Threads like this make me want to cry!
Look at all your options!
Where I live in the UK (Lincolnshire), is mostly flat, featureless, farm land, with a few sporadic spinneys and not much else....
I also have the TW xl with some home made whoopies and found the same thing, the only thing I could do to really help was to mess with the hang angle, keep altering it and you will get a good lay out...
What a nice gesture. :)
I keep meaning to donate but it never seems to happen before my money gets spent on baby stuff or other bits and bobs! Desperate to see what's hidden from me! Haha.
This...
Are there any more plans for this yet, I am extremely interested as I have done some modifications I really want to try out. :)
Sorry for the delay in my report of this trip but it didn't go well for me at all!
I decided that I knew best and used paracord as my ridgeline! (I know, bad idea!)
The hammock stretched in the...
It appears the exact nature of the trip has changed slightly.
We are struggling to get transport there and my buddy has hurt his back before we have even set off.
I will be taking my car, so we...
I will advise him to use his roll mat between the hammock layers and his normal sleeping back should suffice I think for warmth. It's the peak of summer here at the moment so warmth shouldn't be an...
I live in England, we are always expecting (thus ready for) a heavy downpour.
The tarp I have is quite large (3mx3m) and I have full waterproofs. So rain is covered I think. :)
I have thought about this approach but they are hard to get here (I can't seem to find them anyway) and my wood working proficiency is similar to that of Homer Simpson so it's maybe not an option to...
It's not so easy doing that around here unfortunately, the trees are few and far between and it is mostly farmland here, so flat open land with local parks just being football fields with no trees.
...
We are planning on doing a proper comparison test so hopefully he will be honest about his nights and I certainly will be, even if it doesn't work out.
I have a couple of options to try and might...
I have so far had one night in the back garden which was aborted due to comfort and warmth issues, I won't hang in the garden anymore as there just isn't high enough points for me to hang from to get...
I expect the travelling to a Walmart alone would bankrupt me, I think the nearest one is about 3000 miles away over a rather deep pond. ;)
I have a large tarp and a small one for the ground if I...
I've gone and booked myself some time in a relatively local campsite to see how things go with my hammock set up, it's maybe slightly misguided but I'm determined to get it to work so I'm giving...
I'm also 5'9" so I would assume that would work well for me, the only issue is that the highest I can hang on the fence side is 5 feet, could I compensate for this by hanging the other end higher or...
Right, after sleeping on the sofa for the night, fearing the mocking the failure would receive from the other half I've been out to measure everything I could.
The points are 200inches apart, and...
That was the reason I added the ridgeline in the first place, to make sure I got the right angle every time without having to do too much messing about.
Tonight was an experiment that I am about to...
I did expect the tightness would be a major factor. I am laying diagonally, yes.
I will clear some of the trees around the garden tomorrow and see how it is with my ridgeline back in place. I'm...
Oh what I would give for that to be easy and legal but I can't around here. Wild camping is technically illegal here and all the (extremely small) woodlands I know of are owned by people who shoot in...

The best I could do under the circumstances.
Good plan, I need to get up anyway as I want to fetch the stove for a drink. I tried to take a photograph but it's quite dark here and my phone flash does little to help the situation.
Well, I got the hammock hung in my garden and except for the slight modification that my DIY uq will need to stop it from slipping away from the hammock bottom I'm lovely and warm with just that and...
I thought I was going mad for a second there. Mothers day in the UK is in March and I didn't think I was that far out of touch with what the date was! Haha.
Hey there from down the road somewhere.
I just bought a Tenth Wonder black XL one from EBay which cost me about £17 and have set about modifying it, I now have whoopie slings (made from the...
That would be good if I can get them but I'm not sure people that aren't on O2 can qualify for their offers. O2 is a useless network where I live, no signal at home and very little when around my...
Thank you for all the bear bag info, the link was very interesting and amusing in places.
I do realise that bears are unlikely to go anywhere near people, but I have an irrational fear of sleeping...
That's a brilliant thread you linked there, some amazing pictures, I'm a photographer so things like that really inspire me to get out there with the camera and get on with it (the only drawback...
What the hell is a bear bag? I'm just imagining a tarp with red writing on the side of it saying "GO AWAY BEARS!"
I often think about what it would be like to move to the US just for things like...
Well, you have pretty much said what I wanted to hear with the stealth camping type relies so I shall give that a go on my own at some point nearby where I live.
I used to be a scout and have...
Yeah, I found that. As long as its 100m from a road it seems legal. Bit out of my price range for distance though so it's out for now but would be nice eventually.
Thank you for the reply, I'll take a look into that forum and for more info in the Peak District, I would like to find somewhere near Bakewell and possibly get some trout fishing in as it's really...
Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere but I don't seem to be able to find it anywhere and I can't use the search function on my phone.
I've been looking into a first camp out once I get my gear...
Wonder if this is as well known to the rest of the world as it is to us Brits?
The Noid is shamelessly stolen from an episode of Family Guy where the pizza Noid ruins the Mayors perfectly good...
As sad as it sounds I will have to wait a while and save up as I'm totally out of money. Lol.
Shame I have no spare fabric or anything to go ahead and make one, at least my daughter likes hers,...
Well, I'm not sure what's good and what's not at the minute, the only thing I do know is that I have very little cash. Learning about lots from reading here but you don't get a massive amount of...
So there is hope still then. :)
I actually live in Kirton if you know it, so approx a 5 min drive from Swineshead. (Also, I lived in Swineshead until I was 5, down Coles Lane).
Fixed the Images on a previous post.
Also, thinking I may buy a £10 hammock on eBay and just go from there for myself.
Thank you for the warning about paracord, I was under the impression that it was super strong but I respect that I have no experience in using it for this type of thing and don't fancy taking too big...
Thank you my fellow Bostonian. :)
My daughter is really enjoying the one I made for her this morning, i'm really jealous now though!
Can anybody see my images? I'm trying to do this all from my phone and looking like I'm failing. Lol.
Well, impatience got the better of me so I went ahead and decided to make something today.
I found a a small piece of fabric and a willing victim to test it for me. :)...
I think I have some canvas sheets somewhere and I have a massive amount of paracord (I make dog collars, bracelets and other stuff to sell with it (I have a bit of an obsession with paracord to be...
Thanks for all the replies guys, I may have to get on eBay and just buy a cheap hammock for something of a benchmark for me to equal and then beat. Or even just modify it to begin with. We shall see...
