Love the Spam shirt. Great job as always!
Exactly. You aren't hanging from just a 2x4 like you would from a single post with no support. You're hanging from a 2x4 that typically has other 2x4's every 16", with a footer and double header...
The hidden pockets on my works kilt are larger and hold more than the Elkommando. They are also only attached at the top, so they don't weigh the kilt fabric down when you have a liter of water in...
Well that sucks. I JUST bought a new tarp. Looks like I'll be giving plasma now. I need one of these in the standard size. NEED I tell you!
That was great. How do you like the Elkommando? I bought one, and promptly returned it because it didn't fit me too well, and I wasn't a big fan of the snaps. I ended up with a Sport Kilt, and...
97 on mine. I'm 5'10, 225lbs.
I've got to echo a few others and say that I just used my clothes bag. A pair of socks and a jacket make a decent pillow. Not much is needed in a hammock anyways. And I'm a side sleeper too.
Looks good. Are those hitch pin clips with the tails cut shorter?
Thanks for the great input. I'll probably be emailing you in a couple weeks as bug season is coming fast! I have a Nano, and use a 3/4 UQ below it. I wouldn't mind having the bugnet a normal size...
I went through this same thing about a month ago when I bought my Nano. I picked it up for $50 with free shipping off of ebay. I love it. And like someone told me before, it's only an addiction if...
Or maybe it just happens everytime you hit 10,000 posts.
Definitely rubbing salt in a recent wound for me, but that's for another discussion. ;) I had almost the same thing happen when I ordered my HammockGear quilts though. I ordered them late on a...
That's my 20 year old copy of Huckleberry Finn. Arguably my favorite book, and definitely my go to for camping.
The "V" method illustrated in that thread really does help on getting them...
I can tell you what I do, but I also say that everyone needs to figure out what works best for them. I always hang my hammock ridgeline as close to the tarp as possible, typically they're touching. ...
I slept in 17* overnight in a 20* synthetic bag, with a partially inflated pad under me, and just a base layer on. I didn't wake up until 1030 the next morning!:scared: I can't even sleep that late...
More metal grommets on the larger tarp?
So I am in need of a bugnet to go with my Nano7, and I think this is a really good option. It's going to be very buggy, very soon here. The biggest question I had is this. When measuring for the...
I think from now on I'll just take them out until I get to where I'm going. I agree, this place is amazing and I can't wait to get back and check out the rest.
JEEEEEEEZ. Talk about some major elevation gains and losses in this place. I forgot my hiking poles, and the descent from Stone Door was pretty rough. Then all the boulder hopping too. But that...
Due to various reasons, my trip to Big South Fork got canceled, so last minute I decided to head down to Savage Gulf and romp around. It's an hour and 45 minutes from my house, and sadly I had never...
I think you'll be fine, but comfort is relative to each person.
I was thinking unibit and a dremel with a cutoff wheel for fast easy work. Doing it with a plain 1/2" drill bit and a hacksaw should be easy though. This stuff is soft.
Excellent! That's my same test hang spot. ;) It's less than 5 minutes from me, and tons of well placed trees.
Personally I think whatever anyone is willing to carry and feel comfortable with is an acceptable weight. I hike with a friend who routinely carries 40-50 pounds, even for a 3 day 2 night hike. I...
I'm anxious to see how this works. I install TVs for a locally owned business, and I can basically get my hands on as much of this stuff as I want. Might be good for a single layer 1S UQ project...
There are three ways I could see this being better than a figure 9.
A. You make it yourself.
B. Costs a little over $0.35 each.
(48"x1.5"x1/8" aluminum bar stock at Home Depot for $11.27...
Excellent work.
A prime example of what I love about this community and why I recommend the cottage guys whenever possible now. THIS is customer service...BEFORE a sale.
Everything is a compromise. How tall are you? I'm 5'10, 225 and I set my ridgeline to about 97". That's a lot longer than the recommended 83%, but it gave me a really flat, comfortable lay. My...
Did you ask if it was a batch problem or an overall material problem. It seems to me it would be a batch problem(lot, whatever you want to call it) since many, many people have Spinn tarps with no...
Well as with all great plans, most of this has changed. I sprained my knee a week and a half ago, and one of my hiking partners also had to back out. As it stands now we'll be doing 3 days in the...
This seems like the best solution so far. Simple, easy, and should be fairly light. My guess is you could probably even get away with a plastic ring, something like what's used for tarp guyouts.
Looks like you guys had a great time. I'm headed out there Sunday for 3 days and 2 nights. We're going from Leatherwood Ford up the JMT to Station Camp Crossing, crossing the river there, and...
This definitely doesn't suck. What do you think of the Nano? I just got one also and I'm taking it out for a 3 day 2 night next weekend.
There is also the Edge tarp from Warbonnet. It's directly between the Maccat standard and deluxe in size. Or if you want to go big, you could get a Mamajamba. They're both offered in Spinn.
I'm not 100% sure how it works, but in some searching I found that the guys on backpackinglight like to use micro clam cleats made for sailing. You might take a look at these at West Marine too. ...

What about trying one of those?
I definitely understand that. Small line can really dig into you. Any way you could make something like a UCR with the 1.25mm line? It seems to me that no matter what you'll be pulling on that...
You could put a prussic on the line, wrap your line around the tree, then go through the loop of the prussic and pull the line back towards the tree to tension everything. Then tie a slippery half...
There is a definite learning curve, and as you say the best way to figure it out is to get out and do it. An ridgeline inside the hammock helps to let you set the sag the same everytime. An...
Well I took it out to the park that's 5 minutes from my house for a quick test, and the results are in. This thing is surprisingly comfortable. I'd say I'm on the top end of usable size for this,...
It should be in next week, so I'll definitely go string it up and get some good pics. If anyone wants to see anything in particular, let me know and I'll do my best to get pictures. I've already...
+1 on the clove hitch.
I got it for $50 new with free shipping on ebay. Not a bad deal I didn't think. I know if for whatever reason I don't like it I can recoup most of my money. Heading out today to try it out and see...
Do they have these at REI yet? I'm thinking of letting my Jam go and getting one...just because.
I spent the past 45 minutes making up some mason line whoopies for guylines to use on this. Pretty light, and seem very strong. I used the neon yellow stuff from Home Depot. I'm going to try using...
True story!
My Nano 7 came in yesterday. WOW! I had an idea of what I was getting into reading the few reviews I could find, but this thing is impressive. The weight is unbelievably light, it packs tiny, and...
I hung in my ULBPA under my GoLite poncho tarp a few weeks ago. I think it's 5x8 or maybe 8.5, so around the same size. It was VERY minimal, but it did keep a light steady rain off of me. Blowing...
That's the plan. I should have everything except for the bugnet in by then. I'm pretty hopeful it won't get buggy between now and then.
