using what you have... i cut an inch section from a guitar string and using packing tape to attach it to my taper, with the tape extended probably a millimeter past the end of the guitar string....

Funny you say that. before I read this I wrapped the taper in clear tape and it worked like a charm! Thanks for the help everybody
