I love having that option to leave out the 4-inch bit. it really changes the way you can lay, with your back up against a 'wall'. Very cozy.
I won't ever give up those poles that have the 4-inch...
I removed the apex hardware on my RR a few years back. So from my RR, grey dog bones go into Dutch biners, coloured continuous loops on the top side of the biner hook over the Dutch Cinch Bugs...
Just wanted to thank everybody for their ideas. This is what makes this forum a great place to visit. I'm experimenting with a bunch of these ideas, and i 'll post something once I'm satisfied....
My RR Lynx under-quilt has rubber bands that connect the lower end to the hammock via mini-carabiners.
I replaced one recently using the extra band that Brandon provides when you buy the...
1) WBBB Better than the ground, but i could never get 100 per cent comfortable. Heel pressure. Sold it.
2) JRB Bear Mountain Bridge. Like sleeping in a coffin with high sides. Hated it. No view....
As for point number 5, yes, I find the hammock more comfortable if the foot end is about 12 inches higher than the head end, minimum.
It not only stops you from subtly sliding down the hammock in...
I’ll admit...you had me. I was reading and thinking, ****, this guy is slagging one of the manufacturers. He called him a ‘jack hole’!
Than I got to the bottom and saw Just Bill. Well done.
Winter is for wine and trip reports, and dreaming over topo maps.:)
Hate to be contrary, but....Recommend against the lightest option. I got Warbonnet’s Dynaweave Becket straps recently. I find them wonderfully light, but they are so soft that they fold up lengthwise...
Wow, Chard, that report was a thing of beauty. A joy to read. Thank you for taking your readers along.
That route (in reverse) was my very first Algonquin canoe trip, in 2012.

I’m not Benjamin, but I bought the Rita Locura carbon fibre bars a few years ago, from the Utah location. They lasted well. I recommend them to those who are really trying to shave every ounce.
...
Good to know. Thank you!

Any reason this wouldn’t work?
Edit: don’t know why I can’t post a photo. Anyway...
Hammock dogbones ———> continuous loop...
I know what you mean. I bend my knees a lot and sleep fetally and sometimes get into a cold knee situation despite my lovely underquilts. i was thinking maybe a binder clip or two holding a rectangle...
Sold to the voyageur! Let’s close this thread now.
The short answer would be yes, but I’ll refer you to this thread where you can see the evolution of the bars, which have been improved from the originals in 2013, in terms of safety:
...
I did the same as others above. Removed the suspension, removed the continuous loop, removed the apex buckle, leaving just the two long dog ones. Instead of the Dutch beetle buckles, I put the ends...
Update: will ship within Canada by Canada Post. I will eat half the cost of shipping. $100 + 1/2 shipping cost.
As I said above, I’m looking to sell to someone who can pick them up locally. However, I will check out mailing costs just to find out what they are, and if I get no local bites after a few days, I...
Weight 182 grams, or 6.4 ounces

A set of Carbon fibre spreader bars for the Ridgerunner bridge hammock, made by Ruta Locura.
Had these made two years ago. 182 grams. Used about ten nights total. Like new, no scratches or nicks....
The bottom edge will flap a wee bit because it is a flat tarp, not a cat-cut [=catenary-cut= with scallops cut out of the long edges]. Make sure to use the panel pulls if possible. Don’t set the...
I’m not a stomach sleeper, but I have put a thermarest neoair all season pad in the pad sleeve of my RR and that flattened everything out. I briefly lay on my stomach so I know it is possible, but I...
You understand that posting in this thread obligates both of you to provide photos of your items in use so the rest of us who didn’t buy anything can live vicariously through you. ;-)
Love it! The kind of hack that comes from a creative mind and would never occur to me.
...more stuff that Canadians never think about...:o
After a pop-up thunderstorm that plowed through my campsite out of the blue, I set up every hang as if there will be a hurricane.
Tie to vegetation—-tree roots, small trees, etc. As a rule, you...
Without the 4” piece, you are deeper “in” the hammock; there is more of a side wall. As a side sleeper, it is nice to be able to press my back against the side wall. I’m glad I have the older...
That was my first EGL hang. Just want to say thank you to everyone for making me feel welcome! And for the meat!
I could bring some "moros y cristianos" (black beans cooked with onion, garlic, tomato, bell pepper, etc; served on rice)--goes well with pork. And maybe a brownie, too, to add to the desserts.
I...
Hey folks, I would like to attend this weekend's gathering, and meet the legendary EGL hangers.
I would probably show up Saturday in the early afternoon, if that's okay.
Let me know what i can...
Very interesting! thanks for posting those pics!
Uh...you know ferret posed that question four years ago. this thread is from 2014!
One of these days I will make it. I promise! I just need to subscribe to the planning thread...I always make my plans for Algonquin trips, and then find out after the fact that you guys were in the...
Didn’t member Acer make a simple topcover a few years back? Worth checking with them.
I think it would be pretty easy if you have sewing skills to get a rectangle of nylon longer than the RR, add...
Great reports! I was hiking in the park that same weekend, thinking it must be fairly miserable conditions for canoeists. But you guys did just fine and ate well, to boot. Thanks for posting those...
I recall Brandon saying that the ridge line need not be super tight. It’s the other guy lines that you should really pull hard when making your pitch. Maybe ease off on the ridge line tension a bit. ...
Tree—-titanium Dutch Clips on dyneema straps—- Dutch Cinch Bugs—-dogbones. So I removed the apex buckle to do this. Largely for ease of storing wet straps separately.
Great report and info. Thank you so much for posting this.
I was digging around the net and found this report from the Suluk 46 website from 2011, might also be helpful to somebody:...
Early winter in Quebec you’d be below zero Celsius for sure every night. 20F doesn’t mean comfortable at 20F. What is that...minus 6? You’ll probably feel chilly spots as you hit freezing. The...
Ridgerunner! My reasons:
1) no pressure on my heels (what drove me from gathered ends), no calf ridge
2) the great open view
3) don't have to reach up as high on the tree
4) less fiddling to...
On another tack, seeing as WB comes from the mtns of Colorado, home of Cheyenne Mtn and NORAD, i thought The Bomb Shelter would be good, but I see Mtn hardwear has already got that. So how about......
Snowcap is very good. Contains the winter element and the protection element.
How about the Squallbuster?
I’m still liking Quinzee in its various possible spellings Kwinzee, etc. It’s a snow shelter built on the ground. The Sock is like an Air Quinzee.
Another possibility since the warm Chinook wind...
I love the simplicity of the mod. Doesn't irrevocably alter anything. Easy to put on and take off.
By the way, I posted some pics in another thread of the Thunderfly with Warbonnet's own pole...
You shouldn't hang across major pathways like that. You never know when a moose or a deer will come along...;)
Wow! Chard, you're a great writer. I want to hear more of your early trips to the park in years gone by.
Shug Shack, okay, but Shug Sack is a definite nonstarter. :scared:
